Dear Parents/Caregivers

It is hard to believe that we are half way through the term. The

children in addition to their learning have been busy preparing

for our 28th of October Celebration, our end of year celebration

and the Glendi performance.

On Saturday 12th November during the pupil free day the

teachers met to evaluate our students learning and how we

can improve our pedagogy. We also commenced our

preparation for the 2017 school year and discussed our aims

and objectives for Port Adelaide Greek School. We are very

excited and look forward to implementing this next year.

End of Year Celebration

The children along with their teachers have

been very busy preparing for our end year

celebration which will be held on Wednesday

14th December at 7pm at the Krystal Function

Centre, Cnr of Dale and Church St (please

note change in date).

After the concert the children will also receive

their certificates to acknowledge and give

recognition for their achievements in learning

the Greek language and culture.

We would also like to invite you to join us for

light refreshments at the conclusion of the

evening.

ICT at Greek School…….

Our high school students have been fortunate to have

skype conversations and meet students from Arsakeio

Primary School in Patra, Greece. It has been a wonderful

opportunity to connect with children of their age and of

the same background across the globe and practise their

language skills. The conversations were set in a way

where our students only spoke in Greek and the children

in Greece only spoke in English. This is another approach

our school has implemented and will continue to use to

engage our students in improving their oral skills. Many

thanks to our high school teacher Maria Placogiannakis

for giving our students this opportunity.

The Glendi Festival is fast approaching us on November

26/27. Our school is taking part by showcasing our

students’ work in the Exhibition Tent, performing

traditional dances on Sunday at 3.30 pm and we will also

have a stall selling pittes, frappes and loukoumathes. All

proceeds will go directly towards the Port Adelaide

School’s educational materials.

We are still seeking volunteers to assist with serving food,

making frappes or loukoumathes and/or helping in the

background. If you can offer your help please email

Yvonne Noutsatos at [email protected] or write

your name on the large roster located at Greek School on

the wall upstairs just outside the teacher’s staff room. We

require all volunteer numbers by Saturday 19th

November. Please note that FREE ENTRY will be given

only to the people that volunteer for the full 5-hour block.
