 In collaboration with Formative and Summative Assessments: Nothing to Fear! Description: This workshop will help teachers understand formative and summative assessments as well as the assessment cycle in a way that reflects their needs as a classroom practiti oners and student advocates. They will explore the ‘What’s, Who’s, How’s, Why’s and When’s of assessment and examine assessment strategies that can seamlessl y incorporate into the differentiated classr oom. Participants will emerge wi th a greater understanding of how to articulate the assessment strategies that they use and, with suggested methods for recording this information as a basis for data dialogues and/or to drive instruction. Date: March 5, 2012 Time: 4:30 7:00 pm Audience: Grades 3-13 and Service Providers Looking At Student Work in Order to Plan Next Steps Instruction Description: “Give me a productive error over a boring mundane fact any day” (Anon.) Student errors are far more informative to the teacher than a correct response. But, there’s a lot more to it than that large red “X” we jus t placed on the page! Exactly what went wr ong and why? By taking a close look at student work we can analyze the “origin of the error” and analyze the task in order to plan next steps instruction. While not required, participants are invite d to bring copies of their own student work samples (20 copies, no names or visible identifying marks please) Date: March 19, 2012 Time: 4:30 7:00 pm Audience: Grades 3-12 Collaborative Planning to Guide Instruction: A look at the CFIP Model Description: In this workshop teachers are invited to empower themselves through collaboration and collegial planning.
