Analysis of Music videos

This is an example of a very typical music video because it fits in well with most of Goodwins six points. The visuals match the lyrics throughout the video as the song is about a homeless woman who is now a drug addict and a woman of the night. The video just gives the image of this girl doing these things.

This is one of the opening shots that shows the protagonist sleeping on a Bench because she has nowhere else to go. There are many more scenes throughout of her selling big issue and doing drugs and then sleeping with a paying customer.

Ed Sheeran- The A Team

This music videos genre is indie, however there a a few alternative characteristics to what you usually expect to see. There is only one scene with the artist in which is only a few seconds, and there is no shots of him performing.

This video does show a certain need to sell the artist as it portrays Ed Sheeran as being a nice guy and helping the homeless girl out by buying a big issue.

The A Team

There is a clear link throughout this song between the music and the visuals. The song is a slow song and the editing works to represent this even more. The editing throughout is quite slow and shots last quite long. There is a shot of the main character of the video sat down on the floor of a main street, this shots lasts for quite a while and the transitions are quite slow.

Even though this is a music video that you don’t normally expect to see it still contains some of the genre characteristics. We do see the band in the video, and they are performing the song which is typical of its genre. The video is done only using three colours; Red, black and white. This is effective because it gives a flashing effect as the video looks like its moving. It just looks like there a triangles that keep moving through each other and every time it shows the band doing something else whilst performing.

This also goes to show that music videos don’t have to be related to the song, this song has virtually no links between the visuals and the music and lyrics. But because of the Creative editing and everything that is happening the audience dont think about this.

This music video goes against Goodwin's theory because there isn't any links between the visuals and the lyrics. There is a link between the editing and the music. At the start when there is just a slow paced drumbeat and lazy vocals ,the visuals represent this because the editing is slow, the camera stays on one shot for quite a while. Then when the chorus kicks in the editing speed is much faster.

There is a certain need to sell artist as there is with most music videos around. It features the band throughout the whole video and they are the main characters in it. There are al so a few genre characteristics that match in this video. The genre is indie. And the typical characteristics that feature in this video are that the artists feature in the video, and they have guitars which are normally associated with indie videos. Even if they are using them as weapons.

This music is very simple but effective. It just shows the band performing this track live. This uses all of the characteristics of the genre for this song which is indie. It features a typical 4 piece band performing their new track for the music video. It also shows a need to sell artist because seeing a band perform on the music video makes you want to go an watch them live . There is a good variation of shots used in this video to stop people getting bored when they watch it.
