• “He turned round. It was his friend Syme, who worked in the Research Department. Perhaps 'friend' was not exactly the right word. You did not have friends nowadays, you had comrades: but there were some comrades whose society was pleasanter than that of others.”

• (from the Dystopian novel '1984' written by George Orwell)

“a cognitive structure, a network of associations that organizes and guides an individual's perception. A schema functions as an anticipatory structure, a readiness to search for and assimilate incoming information in schema-relevant terms.”

“If you want a picture of the future, imagine a boot stamping on a human face for ever.”

Target Audience: Anyone using internet messaging software

The Output Medium: Navigable web applet, and Psychological assessment system.

The Output Location: Online public system so as anyone can view risk assessments of their colleagues.

The Aim: To exemplify the point that there is only so far we should go on the route to absolute security, and the globalization of information. We have to understand that privacy is a fundamental part of our lives, and can affect our social groups in a very negative way.

What Will I Produce:• Part 1: Program distributed to each user which looks at the chat software they

use most, creates a log of their chat, and publishes it as a txt file to an online folder!

• Part 2: An online shockwave applet that looks at a selected user, and creates a map using their chat logs! This map then does a risk assessment on the user, and projects preferred online friends if required.

Viewable Report 4Looks at other users on the database, and suggests any preferable friendsLooks not only at users friends, but also at friends of friends

Uses profile information in other chats, to determine whether anybody else would be preferable to chat to, and whether better social groups are out there to replace the ‘socially inept’ ones the user is currently in!
