• Notifications for all goods mentioned in :– The IMDG-code– Chapter 17 of the IBC-code– Chapter 19 of the IGC-code– Annex I and II of the MARPOL convention

• Operations to be notified– Pre-carriage, on-carriage (freight forwarders)– Loading, discharging, transshipment,transit

• July 1st 1994:Use of EDI mandatory (except for transit cargoes)

• January 1st 1998:EDI can be used for transit cargoes

• October 1st 2005:Notifications of transit cargo via EDI mandatory !

ADVANTAGES

• Faster control on the notifications and faster flow of information to berth supervisors

• More control on :– Correctness of the data– Allowed berths– Compliance with the quantity limitations

• Clear information in relation to the location of the goods

MANDATORY INFORMATION ON THE GOODS

• Technical Name (PSN)– Not a commercial name– Can be in English

• N.O.S. and generic entries– Goods conditions and characterisitics must also

be given :• Condition : gas, solid, liquid• Characterisitic : flammable, corrosive,

toxic,marine pollutant, oxidizing

• Net weight

• Containernumber (where applicable) Not mandatory : EMS, MFAG, PG

GENERAL REMARKS ON THE NOTIFICATION

• Some data can be given as “TBN” :– Lloyd’s- or IMO-number of the vessel– Name of the vessel or barge– Name of second party (forwarder or agent)– Containernumber

Can be used before the operation, must becompleted at least on the day of the operation.

• The containernumber can be used to search for a notification :

Processing of the notifications

• Vessel can leave the port without delivery of waste if enough storage capacity to reach the next port. (inspections PSC)

• However …– Financial benefit for vessels which deliver waste

fractions to port reception facilities in the port of Antwerp.
