olyWhey started as a collaboration among farmers, furniture makers, and scientists at the University of Vermont to expand the value of Vermont’s

agricultural and forestry industries. Whey protein, a byproduct of cheese making, is the linchpin ingredient that gives PolyWhey superior natural bonding characteristics. PolyWhey’s patented formula displaces toxic components traditionally found in wood finish, such as formaldehyde and benzene. The result is a naturally durable, safe, and easy-to-use finish that meets the highest professional and environmental standards. PolyWhey is derived from a renewable agricultural resource — recycled whey, a byproduct of Vermont’s cheese industry — dramatically lowering its VOC content. Since introducing our original Floor and Furniture formulations, we’ve added Exterior, Exterior tints, Wood Cleaner, Woodtone Concentrated Tints and our PolyWhey Industrial Series. The VNC Mission Vermont Natural Coatings was incorporated with the goal of creating premium, cutting-edge, naturally derived products that deliver professional performance without the toxic chemicals of other finishes. We manufacture our products in Hardwick, the heart of Vermont’s agricultural industry and hometown of company founder and dairy farmer, Andrew Meyer. Here we set our course to be a locally based and environmentally sustainable business. We started with one retail store in Greensboro, Vermont (pop. 770), and are now available in over 200 national and international locations. We’ve grown by building strong relationships with contractors, architects and homeowners. Each connection is based on providing the best in wood protection, while making application and living conditions dramatically better. We’re proud of our lasting connections and partnerships, like our collaboration with the Naked Table Project, which brings participants to workshops to make a table from locally-sourced wood and then share a meal on those tables with neighboring farmers. This project reflects our own process — one that is both symbolic of community and a product of the local environment.
