Excelsior Correspondent ANANTNAG, June 3: Minister for Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs and Information Department, Chowdhary Zulfkar Ali today reviewed the functioning of Food, Civil Services and Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA), Legal Metrology Department (LMD) and Department of Information and Public Relation (DIPR) of Anantnag, Kulgam, Pulwama and Shopian districts. The meeting was attended by District Development Commis- sioner (DDC) Anantnag, Dr. Syed Abid Rasheed Shah, Director FCS&CA, Nisar Ahmad Wani, Joint Controller Legal Metrology Amar Singh, ADDC Anantnag, ADC Pulwama and ADC Shopian, Deputy Director Information (PR), Assistant Director FCS&CA and District Information Officers of Anantnag, Kulgam, Pulwama and Shopian, TSO and other offi- cers of Legal Metrology. The concerned officers apprised the Minister with the performance of the FSC&CA Department. It was given out that in Anantnag, the total pop- ulation benefitting from National Food Security Act (NFSA) is 9,04,666 and the number of priority households (PHH) is 6,34,261 while as the number of PHH in Pulwama, Shopian and Kulgam are 350448, 167558 and 256699 respectively. The Minister was also informed about the number of beneficiaries under Mufti Mohammad Sayeed Food Entitlement Scheme (MMS- FES). During the meeting, the Minister directed the Assistant Directors (ADs) to hire the pri- vate vehicles for lifting of food grains at a depreciation hiring rate of 15% in case State Road Transport Corporation (SRTC) fails to provide the requisite number of trucks. Meanwhile, the Minister also directed the ADs to ensure the lifting of all the food grains under NFSA and MMSFES is completed by 7th of this month so that timely distribution of rations is ensured. Following the reports about the pilferage of kerosene oil, the Minster directed the District Development Commissioners to constitute committees for the purpose and submit the reports in a time bound manner. The Minister also under- scored the need of making the public distribution system more effective, efficient and prompt. He said that through new fair price shops the department is embarking on the path of priva- tization, digitization and automation. Excelsior Correspondent SRINAGAR, June 3: Umang Narula, Chief Executive Officer, Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board, informed that after taking into consideration requests received from pilgrims and certain organi- zations, he has held discussions with Chairman, Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board and it has been decided to provide registration outlet at Leh to enable the tourist traveling in Ladakh to undertake the Yatra. Consequently, after discus- sions, Narula announced that the J&K Bank Branch at Main Market, Leh will provide advance registration of yatris from June 5. In this context, for the convenience of Yatris the Medical Superintendents of the District Hospitals of Leh and Kargil have been authorized to issue Compulsory Health Certificates to the intending Yatris. Narula informed that for pil- grims all over India the registra- tion facilities are being provided to the Yatris through 436 branch- es of Punjab National Bank, Jammu and Kashmir Bank and YES Bank located in 32 States and UTs across the country. For ex- India pilgrims, the registra- tion facility is being provided only through Punjab National Bank. Further, for the conven- ience of Yatris who intend to undertake Yatra in groups, the Shrine Board has also introduced a group registration facility. The guidelines and proce- dure for advance registration, registration of ex-India pilgrims and group registration are shown on the website of the Shrine Board www.shriamar- nathjishrine.com. The advance online booking for helicopter tickets com- menced on April 25, 2017. The per passenger one way heli-fare for Yatra 2017 has been fixed at Rs. 1,715 (inclusive of all taxes) for the Neelgrath-Panjtarni route and Rs. 2,950 (inclusive of all taxes) for the Pahalgam- Panjtarni sector. CEO advised the Yatris that they must reach the respective base camps on the date for which they have registered themselves and informed that the Access Control Gates at Baltal / Domel and Chandanwari will remain open from 5:00 a.m to 11.00 a.m every day. Train catches fire at Qazigund Excelsior Correspondent SRINAGAR, June 3: Fear gripped passengers travelling in Banihal-Baramulla train when it suddenly caught fire today at Qazigund in south Kashmir. Witnesses said a portion of train caught fire when it was on way to Srinagar at Qazigund Bridge, frightening passengers who had boarded the train. However, the fire was brought under control without any loss of life, injury or major damage to the train. The witnesses said that the cause of fire was apparently short circuit. "Had it not been brought under control quickly, it would have resulted in tragedy. After the incident, the train again plied nor- mally," they added. This was stated by BJP National Vice-President and Prabhari Avinash Rai Khanna during a public rally here today. On the occasion, Khanna also administered oath to the party activists and the general public on Jan Dhan, Jal Dhan and Van Dhan. Traders observe strike, stage protest Excelsior Correspondent SRINAGAR, June 3: A complete shut down was observed by traders in southern Anantnag town of South Kashmir today to protest alleged highhandedness of security forces during yesterday's stone- throwing clashes. All the shops and commer- cial establishments in Anantnag town were closed since early morning. The traders said that security forces used excessive force against protesters and common people yesterday dur- ing post-Friday clashes. They alleged that teargas shells fired by police caused fire in local commercial complexes and resulted in gutting of twenty godowns and shops. A protest demonstration against alleged highhandedness of security forces was staged by local shop- keepers and traders today and it concluded on peaceful note. Police meanwhile denied allega- tions of traders and termed them baseless. Meanwhile, the situation in rest of the Kashmir remained peaceful and no incident of law and order was reported from anywhere.
