Book Study We are learning to (WALT): identify where rainforests are found and look at the different

types of plants and animals that are found there.

In English this term we will be studying a book that is set in the Amazon Rainforest. Before we start reading the book, we will look at where rainforests are located and what types of plants and animals are found there. Watch these two videos and write down a few dot points.

Read the facts about the Amazon Rainforest and visit the websites below.

● The Amazon is the world’s largest tropical rainforest, covering over 5.5 million square kilometres.

● The Amazon River is the second longest river in the world. ● There are about 40,000 plant species, 1,300 bird species, 3,000 types of fish, 430

mammals and 2.5 million different insects. ● More than 20% of the world’s oxygen is made by the Amazon Rainforest.● The Amazon rainforest is home to 10% of the known species in the world.
