Note Names on the Lines and Spaces

TIME SIGNATURES The top number tells us how

many counts in each measure.

The bottom number tells us what

rhythm receives each count

(number) in our counting.

In the above example there are 4 counts (1-2-3-4) in each measure and

the quarter note (4= ) is what we are counting (1-2-3-4).

Because of this, there has to be four quarter notes in each measure.

The Art of Performing Three Zones to Bring It All Together

**Count your rhythms as you play.

**Read your music and move your fingers.

**Keep your fingers and eyes moving as you play the music.

**Recover from any mistakes as quickly as possible.

**Do not attempt to “redo” the note or rhythm.

**Play every note with proper tone.

**Maintain excellent posture.

**Continue to the end.

**Don’t “Think” about what you are playing. Simply do it!

**Play back your performance in

your head or listen to the

recording.

**Write down what you did well

and what needs to be better.

**Create a “plan of attack” to

improve the areas which

were not correct.

**Create a “plan of attack” to

maintain what you did well.

**Begin using your “plan of attack”

by delibaretly working on

those items you identified!
