JAMMU, Dec 13: The 45thMartyrdom Day of the MartyrCapt. Bahadur Singh who laiddown his life in 1971 Indo-Pakwar will be celebrated onDecember 15 at his native villageBhambo Chak, tehsil Ramgarhdistrict, Samba.
During the function ChanderParkash Ganga, Minister ofIndustries and Commerce will bethe chief guest.
This was stated by presidentand general secretary of theCommittee looking after thearrangements, Sat Salarbi,Ujagar Singh while interactingwith media persons at Vijaypurtoday. Capitan Bahadur Singhhad attained martyrdom onDecember 15 in 1971 during theIndo-Pak War in OperationCactus Lili in Rajasthan, theysaid.
Capitan Bahadur Singh is theicon of bravery, they said, addingthe entire nation is proud of his
sacrifices. In year 1994 Samarak(Statue) of Capitan Bahadur wasestablished in his native villageBhambo Chak and a Committeeof the prominent persons of thearea was framed in the same yearto observe the day in future.
Since 1994 every year theMartyrdom Day in the memoryand gratification of CapitanBahadur Singh is being celebrat-ed. Sat Salarbi said that this yearfunction will be celebrated inwhich Minister, Chander ParkashGanga along with prominent dig-nitaries of the area will pay trib-utes to the martyr. He appealedthe people particularly youth ofthe area for the participation inthe function. He said that suchtype of occasions inspire theyouth for performing commend-able job for the nation.
He said that the martyrdom ofCapitan Bahadur Singh inspiresthe people that they should bealways ready to pay supreme sac-rifice for the cause of nation.

JAMMU, Dec 13: Ministerfor PHE, Irrigation and FloodControl Sham Lal Choudharytoday inaugurated a tube well atMaharaja Hari Singh Park,Jammu. The tube well has beeninstalled at a cost of Rs 2 croreby J&K EconomicReconstruction Agency.
Member LegislativeAssembly, Jammu East, RajeshGupta, Chief Engineer, PHE,Jammu, besides large number oflocals were present on the occa-sion.
Complementing the localsafter inaugurating the tube well,the Minister said that the tubewell will augment the water sup-ply to Gujjar Nagar. He said thatthe tube well will discharge39,000 gallons per hour and add7 lakh gallons per day to exist-ing 20 lakh GPD capacity ofWSS Gujjar Nagar. He said thatnow the adequate water supplyto people of Gujjar Nagar,Christian Colony, Chand Nagar,
Residency Road area adjoiningDPS, Dalpatian Mohalla,Khatikan Talab, MohallaRamdasian, Peerkho and VIPareas will be ensured.
Sham Choudhary said that 6more tube wells would beinstalled so that more water sup-ply is ensured to these areas ofthe city. The old pipes of thearea would also be replaced, hemaintained.
Calling for concerted effortsin preservation of waterresources, the Minister alsostressed on the need for judi-cious use of water. He said thatthe Government is committed toprovide basic amenities, includ-ing adequate water and powersupply, to people of the Stateand has been working in thisdirection, adding that it can bepossible with the cooperation ofpeople. The Government hasalso revived several defunctWSS for ensuring adequate sup-ply of potable water to people,he added.

JAMMU, Dec 13: Ministerfor Forests, Environment andEcology, Choudhary Lal Singhtoday called for collectiveapproach towards conservationand promotion of State's greenwealth.
The Minister was speaking ata meeting of officers of Forestsand Wildlife wings whilereviewing the progress on vari-ous ongoing development works.
"Jammu and Kashmir isblessed with abundant naturalaffluence and resources and itbecomes our moral responsibili-ty to contribute collectivelytowards its preservation", theMinister maintained whileemphasizing the need of raisingawareness about the need andimportance of saving forests forthe posterity.
Principal Chief Conservatorof Forests Ravi Kesar, ChiefWildlife Warden Manoj Panth,Chief Conservator of ForestsFarooq Geelani, DirectorEnvironment and RemoteSensing O P Sharma, DirectorSFRI B M Sharma, RegionalDirector Wildlife Dr. V S SinthilKumar besides other senior offi-cers were present on the occa-sion.
The Minister asked the offi-cers to gear up their men andmachinery for timely completionof the ongoing developmentworks being executed by theForests and Wildlife wings. He
said that Government has ear-marked Rs. 62 lakh for construc-tion of two reservoirs at JambuZoo with a storage capacity of 3lakh gallon water.
Choudhary Lal Singh askedthe Wildlife Department to floatthe tenders for construction ofwater storage reservoirs, borewell, two leopard enclosures,two tiger enclosures, two peas-antry, blacktopping of 4 kilome-ter approach road, artificialwater fall, nature interpretationcentre, development of parkingarea, Cafetaria, view points,internal road links to Jambu Zooetc at the earliest. He also direct-ed them to call tenders for pur-chase of 6 battery cars for JambuZoo and 50 cycles besides 4 bat-tery cars for Jasrota Fort.
Calling for need based devel-opment and quality works, theMinister stressed on judiciousutilization of allocated funds forvarious developmental works.He said the officers will be madeaccountable for implementationof all the programs and schemesin their respective jurisdictions.
Meanwhile, Lal Singh direct-ed the officers to put in sincereefforts in developing all theestablished nurseries across theJammu region by planting twocrore different saplings under theplantation drive to be held inrainy season next year.
Choudhary Lal Singh direct-ed the officers to immediatelystart the fencing work on the for-est land around the Jambu Zoo.
Modi attacks Congress over badloans, calls it biggest UPA scam
NEW DELHI, Dec 13:
Prime Minister NarendraModi today launched a blister-ing attack on Congress, sayingthat banks were pressured underits rule to give loans worth thou-sands of crore to select industri-alists and termed it as the UPAGovernment's biggest scam.
A day before his home StateGujarat goes to the final phaseof polling, Modi attacked "econ-omists" in the UPA for handinghim a "liability" of non-perform-ing assets or bad loans, whilehard-selling his CentralGovernment's pro-poorschemes.
"This Government is fram-ing policies keeping the needs ofthe youth in mind. In contrast,the previous Government gavethousands of crores to select bigindustrialist by putting pressureon banks," he said.
He went on to blame theUPA regime for the problems inthe banking sector. "This noiseover NPAs of banks is thebiggest liability handed down bythe economists sitting in the pre-vious Government," he saidwithout naming anyone.
In the address, his first at anAGM of an industry association,Prime Minister asked as to whatFICCI was doing when some inGovernment pressured banks ingiving loans to select industrial-ists.
Also, he said, no study wasdone by organisations likeFICCI to assess how the plightof banking sector worsened dueto policies of the earlierGovernment.
"Those in the Government,banks, industry and marketsknew that a wrong was beingcommitted," he said. "This wasUPA Government's biggestscam, bigger thanCommonwealth Games, 2G(telecom spectrum allocation)and coal block allocation scams.This was kind of loot of publicmoney by those sitting in the
Government by using industrial-ists."
He sought to know whetheran attempt was ever made towake up those who "silently"watched the entire loot.
Modi said his Governmenthas taken steps to strengthen thebanking sector including by pro-viding fresh capital so that theinterest of customers and thecountry is protected.
He also questioned as to whythe UPA Government did notthink of bringing a legislationlike the Real Estate (Regulationand Development) Act, 2016(RERA) to protect the interestsof home buyers and to enhancetransparency in the real estatesector.
Listing out his Government'spro-poor policies, Modi saidfree cooking gas connectionshave been given to over 3 crorewomen; 30 crore bank accountshave been opened as part offinancial inclusion; over Rs 4lakh crore guarantee-less loanshave been given to about 9.75lakh youth for business; 5 croretoilets built and affordable hous-ing for rural poor launched.
In the last three years, 87reforms in 21 sectors likedefence, construction, financialservices and food processinghave been undertaken to over-haul the economy, he said.
"We are building a systemthat is not just transparent butalso sensitive and understandspeople's needs," he said.
Modi said his Government isformulating policies keeping inmind the need of businesses,abolishing archaic and obsoletelaws.
Industry, he said, had beenlong demanding Goods andServices Tax (GST) and theBJP-led Government imple-mented it and introduced meas-ures like anti-profiteering to seethat businesses pass on the ben-efit of lower taxes to the people.(PTI)

JAMMU, Dec 13: Ministerfor Horticulture, Syed BasharatBukhari today directed the offi-cers to ensure that the funds ear-marked for the horticulture andthe schemes meant for this vitalsector are properly utilized andimplemented so that the benefitof these percolates to targetedareas resulting in the increase ofhorticulture produce besides eco-nomic emancipation of the peo-ple related with it.
The Minister was addressingofficers during a review meetingconvened to discuss utilization offunds during the current financialyear.

Allgenuine payments pending if anymust be cleared immediately asper norms, he added.
Basharat Bukhari also had aninteraction with traders related tohorticulture sector through videoconferencing. They put forththeir views and the problemsfaced by them.
Minister while directingDirector Horticulture Kashmir toexamine the issues of horticultur-ists immediately so that they maynot feel any inconvenience. Hesaid that we have to ensure thatthey do not face any hardships asthe sector is one of the mainstaysof the state's economy.

KATHUA, Dec 13: A dailywager lineman working withPower Development Department(PDD) in Kathua district was elec-trocuted to death in Dhani Bakhtaarea of Kathua district early today,an official said.
The deceased has been identi-fied as Som Dutt, son of Sukhraj,resident of Rati Dhani Bakhta. Hereceived an electric shock whilemaking repairs at a power pole inhis village.
The PDD employees haveexpressed their profound shockover his death and there is a brew-ing resentment among the employ-ees of the department against theincreasing accidents of field staffand they held the Governmentresponsible for not taking neces-sary steps to avert such accidentsin the department.
