One of the big differences the worshipping community of God makes in the world is our commitment to prayer. The power of a body of people praying to God is unfathomably important. Our Cycle of Prayer is the bedrock of our prayerful life and I encourage every parish, every congregation and every individual to enter into our cycle of prayer.

I continue to find this Cycle of Prayer a valuable resource. It is a fundamental part of my spiritual and prayer life. It focuses my mind on the primacy of prayer and I hope it does for you. I use the diary to offer a simple, heartfelt prayer for all in our diocese who are working to become a bigger church making a bigger difference.

As your bishop I want to be able to pray for your specific needs. I find it helps to have that need set before me. So I would like you to email me privately, in confidence, your need a week before you and your parish appear in the cycle. You can email [email protected] with your current request.

Prayer is simple. Prayer is effective. Prayer is the bedrock and rhythm of lives. I invite you, once again, to get involved in that rhythm of prayer.

We pray for those who they support in prison, in university, in college, in hospital, in hospice, on board ship, in shopping centre and industry and so many other contexts. May your Holy Spirit enrich the relationships they forge and strengthen those with whom they meet.Amen.
