CyberKnife Center of Chicago Milestones •  August 2009: CyberKnife Center of Chicago opened as a service of

Elmhurst Memorial Hospital. The center is accredited by the American College of Radiology.

•  August 2013: The center celebrated treating its 1,000th patient. The center treats hundreds of patients each year, some traveling from as far as Indiana.

•  Diseases most treated at the center include lung, brain and spinal tumors as well as a nerve disorder called trigeminal neuralgia.

•  The CyberKnife Center of Chicago staff is dedicated to participating in

community events such as Ride Janie Ride, The American Cancer Society Black and White Ball, the Fight for Air Climb and more.


•  In Fall 2013, CyberKnife Center of Chicago moved to a new location at Elmhurst Memorial Health Care’s new Center for Cancer Care.

•  The 30,000-square-foot facility houses all cancer treatment

services and facilities, further developing a multidisciplinary approach to cancer care, in accordance with guidelines from the international patient-centered care organization, Planetree Alliance. Elmhurst Memorial Hospital is the second hospital in Illinois to earn Planetree designation.

•  The new center also focuses on the experience of patient’s

loved ones. The infusion area is available to cancer patients, non-cancer patients and their families and features a shared social treatment area or private treatment bays.

CyberKnife® Treatment


•  CyberKnife treats patients through a process called stereotactic radiosurgery, a noninvasive method of treating tumors with high-dose radiation precisely aimed from different angles.

•  CyberKnife treatment does not require surgery. Treatment is painless and noninvasive, so there’s no cutting or anesthesia required. CyberKnife’s pinpoint accuracy allows our physicians to treat difficult-to-reach tumors that may have been impossible to treat in the past. By delivering high-dose radiation from precise angles, CyberKnife also significantly reduces treatment time for the patient.

•  Most patients go home right after CyberKnife treatment and immediately resume normal activities. There may be side effects, such as fatigue, but these are usually minor and temporary.
