The Subject Matter Expert (SMX) Solutions Program by Steinbeis Malaysia Foundation
provides a platform for Malaysian companies to find solutions to their industrial
problems. Many companies come across a myriad of problems which cannot be solved
internally, due to lack of resources. Unfortunately, the cost of hiring consultants can be
exorbitant. Steinbeis Malaysia Foundation provides assistance by crowdsourcing for
solutions to address specific problem statements via print and social media. The
winning solution rewards RM10,000 to the proposing expert.

service, healthcare management services
and operating a state-of-the-art
Electronic Healthcard Network

Integrating a fitness tracking and
assessment system with a rewards system
to complement their current services
Subject matter expert:
Rofarez Solutions Sdn Bhd
Solution:
Development of customer-driven health
monitoring app using blockchaintechnology
12
Outcomes:
The company has rolled out an fitness tracking and assessment app that allows their clients to
track their daily movements while also providing incentives for achieving certain fitness goals.
For example, if a client completes 10,000 steps daily for an entire week, they may be eligible to
claim a free fruit juice from a participating vendor. The app also notifies the client of nearby
health-related activities for which a confirmed attendance may contribute to the number of
reward points accrued. The company hopes that the gamification of physical health pursuits will
help improve overall health and reduce the number of clinic visits.
Client: ASP Medical Clinic Sdn Bhd
Company profile:
A chain of retail shops (YONS Baby)
selling baby- and maternity-related items.
To date, the company has 6 retail outlets
in Kuala Lumpur, Sarawak and Johor.
Problem statement:
Without being able to collate data on
retail consumer behaviour, the company
is not able to determine how much return
they are getting on their investment and
effectively run their business.
Subject matter expert:
Sheikh Ezaiddin
IDS Integrated Solutions
Solution:
Customised solution to mine customer
data and performing data analytics to
increase revenue and improve cost
efficiency.
13
Outcomes:
The company has been able to tailor their advertising and marketing activities to a specific
demographic to increase footfall to their outlets and target a minimum 30% customer retention
rate. In addition, they have used the data to optimise manpower resource management and
their supply chain activities to minimise unnecessary overheads. The information from the
system has also allowed the company to make fact-based decisions when pitching for outlet
expansion.
