• In the 9th grade Health/Social Science section, circle Health

and Human Geography.

-Human geography is not a graduation requirement. If you take health

during the summer, both Health and Human Geography will be

replaced with a year-long elective.

• If you plan on taking Health during summer, check the box

for “summer”.

• Indicate 3 alternate elective choices.

• Register for Health and Human Geography online.

• Counselors will replace Health and Human Geography with

an alternate course AFTER summer school enrollment is

confirmed.

Social Science

• Circle the desired level of social science

• If you plan on taking Social Science in summer,

prerequisites before you are placed in AP classes.

• Counselors will check the audition/application

rosters, and will confirm summer school

Social Science- 12th Grade• American Government and Economics are both 1 semester classes. When adding

the classes on the student portal choose American Gov’t 6100D and Economics

6131D.

• We offer an online Gov’t/Econ class that meets in class once a week for

tests/quizzes on Mon or Wed during zero period. Students should have good

attendance and grades and be able to work independently. Select American Gov’t

6100P and Economics 6131P in the computer.

• AP Government- Students should register online for AP Gov’t 1 and AP Gov’t 2.

The fall curriculum will include Economics standards.

• AP Economics-Students should register for AP Econ 1 and AP Econ 2 in the

computer. The fall curriculum will include Am. Gov’t content standards.

– If you want to take AP Econ zero period, check the box on the registration

form and also add “No Class 6th Fall” and “No Class 6th Spring” in the

portal.

– If you want AP Econ but DO NOT want AP Econ during zero period, please

add “No Class 0 Fall” and “No Class 0 Spring” in the portal unless you are

taking Band or Linear Algebra.

PE: 9th and 10th

• 9th: Circle PE, Yoga, AFJROTC, Dance, Band or Drill

Team.

• Sports, Int/Adv Dance, and Pep Squad have “try-outs”. If

• Medical Biology embeds medical and health related topics into the

general biology curriculum. If focuses on preparation for the

Academy of Science and Medicine but it is not required as a pre-

requisite for the Academy.

• If you successfully complete Biology in summer school, the

counselors will adjust your schedule to Chemistry in July.

Please help your son/daughter select the most appropriate classes for his/her schedule for the upcoming school year. If

your student has expressed interest in taking one or more AP or Honors classes at Crescenta Valley High School next

year, consider the following before making the commitment:

AP/Honors courses are college level classes. They are challenging and taught at an extremely fast pace.

Students should plan to study up to two additional hours daily, per AP/Honors course.

AP/Honors courses should not be taken to try to improve one’s GPA. These courses are rigorous, and require

maturity, commitment, and perseverance. More course content information is available at

www.collegeboard.org or on the GUSD online course catalog.

In selecting courses for next year, consider with your student his/her academic strengths and interests, the rigor of

the total academic program, commitment to any extra-curricular activities, work or family responsibilities, and

work/life balance. Refer to the Time Management Tracker on the back side of the registration form.

Consider the resiliency skills of your student. If stress, anxiety, or the fear of failure (or of not getting straight As)

are major concerns, please discuss pros and cons of taking AP/Honors classes with the counselors.

Before requesting that your son/daughter take an AP/Honors course next year, please be aware of the following:

Enrollment in the desired course/s is not guaranteed. Counselors will ensure that the necessary prerequisites have

been met so the student is prepared to be successful in the course.

Due to scheduling conflicts, it may not be possible to enroll your student in all requested classes.

Earning a low grade in an AP/Honors course does not entitle a student to drop the class. If a low grade is earned,

it will be recorded on the student’s transcript.

Students will remain in their selected AP/Honors course/s for the entire year. Once student schedules are

assigned, no alternate course will be available, and classes may not be dropped.
