What is iOS?
• iPhone Operating System is an operating system developed by and distributed exclusively for Apple hardware
• Based on the XNU kernel• Powers your iPad, iPhone, and iPod Touch• First iPhone released June 2007• Current iOS Version 9.3
What is Android?
• An operating system (OS) currently developed by Google
• Based on the Linux kernel • Designed primarily for touchscreen mobile
devices such as smartphones and tablets• First Android device released September 2008• Current publically released version Android 6

iOS Extending Battery Life
• Turn off Bluetooth when not using it• Stop Location Services• Turn off “Hey Siri”• Turn off Background App Refresh• Turn off Push notifications from apps• Turn off Automatic Downloads• Turn on Low Power Mode• Facedown detection

Settings > Privacy > Location Services
Disable any app you don’t feel needs to be tracking your location.

apps• Delete photos you don't need• Turn off Photo Stream• Remove e-books you aren't reading• Spring-clean your Notes• Delete old iMessages

iCloud Storage
• The total amount of storage space available on iCloud.
• Free 5GB (gigabytes)• Once your iCloud Storage is full, your device
will stop backing up to iCloud. • iCloud Drive and iCloud-enabled apps will no
longer update across your devices, and you won't be able to send or receive messages with your iCloud email address.
iCloud Backup
• A feature on iOS devices that backs up your entire device to iCloud, just in case something unfortunate happens.
• iCloud Backups are one big file that restores your entire device – there’s no way to access individual files.
• iCloud Backups count against your available iCloud Storage.
iCloud Drive
• Allows apps on Macs, iPhones, and iPads to synchronize files using iCloud.
• iCloud Drive shares files like documents and user preferences.
• Files in iCloud Drive count against your available iCloud Storage.

My Photo Stream
• Uploads all your new photos and sends them to all your devices.
• Uploads your photos to iCloud so they’re automatically downloaded on devices with My Photo Stream turned on.
• Only works over Wi-Fi.• Photos in My Photo Stream do not count
against your available iCloud Storage.

• iOS jailbreaking is the process of removing software restrictions put in place by Apple on devices that run the iOS operating system.
• Involves installing a modified set of kernel patches to grant root access to the device.
• Allows the user to download & use apps that aren’t in the App Store.
Android Rooting
• Android is an open source OS, built on a Linux kernel.
• Users can install 3rd party apps on their devices out of the box.
• Rooting an Android device gives the user access to the entire OS. Users can remove the OS & replace with their own.
