MASTER OF BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION Through Curtin’s internationally accredited MBA you will gain a range of skills applicable to the business environment, including the ability to approach projects from a functional standpoint, communicate well, and pitch solutions to problems.

This course is aimed primarily at middle and senior managers looking to improve their standing in industry. It combines current business theory and local and international perspectives with hands-on project work.

The program is interwoven with a core set of values reflecting our commitment to ethical and sustainable corporate governance practices. Your studies will emphasise the creation and critical evaluation of innovative ideas and strategies within ambiguous and uncertain business environments.

Most students choose to study the generalist MBA, to gain a broader understanding. However, you may also choose from the following majors, that will allow you to specialise in a specific area of interest.

• Oil and Gas, in partnership with Aberdeen Business School at Robert Gordon University

• Strategic Procurement, which is accredited by the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS)

• Leadership.

The curriculum comprises eight core units and four optional units. Ten of these units can be studied online. You are also required to complete a Professional Portfolio (minimum of 40 hours of professional development).

OIL AND GAS MAJORThis unique MBA is the only one of its kind in Australia and is designed, with industry, to meet the needs of middle and senior managers in the oil and gas sector. The course is offered in partnership with Aberdeen Business School (part of Robert Gordon University), similarly located in a world energy hub.

The curriculum combines oil and gas knowledge and energy management with the core requirements of an MBA to ensure you have a broad coverage of key functional disciplines of business management, as well as specialised knowledge of oil and gas.

STRATEGIC PROCUREMENT MAJORThis specialised MBA major has been designed for those working in strategic procurement, or those considering a career in this growing field.

It is a unique major combining strategic procurement knowledge and supply chain management with the core requirements of an MBA to ensure you have a broad coverage of key functional disciplines of business management, as well as specialised knowledge of strategic procurement.

LEADERSHIP MAJORThis specialist MBA major offers you detailed understanding and engagement with current and future leadership challenges. You will analyse and reframe leadership concepts alongside your own leadership style in order to gain an understanding of organisations and develop your practical skills.

You will also apply, test and evaluate your analytical, leadership and management skills in the workplace, and further your professional and personal development through action learning that can be transferred to real organisations.

By exploring the philosophy and ethics of leadership and covering a range of topics including working with teams, working in a global arena, effective and strategic management and organisational behaviour, you will graduate from the course with strategic understanding of leadership and engagement.

Appreciating the business and economic framework in which the resources sector operates requires knowledge of economic, financial, management, legal, regulatory, political and social environments.

Good resource sector managers must combine this expertise with sound technical knowledge of exploration, extraction, and processing, which makes mineral economics a special and exciting field of study.

Our postgraduate courses in mineral and energy economics are designed to meet the needs of mid-career resource sector professionals who are looking to move into senior management or decision-making roles.

Business-oriented students are immersed in the workings of the energy and mining sectors through time spent at Curtin’s Department of Petroleum Engineering and the WA School of Mines in Kalgoorlie, while those with a technical background learn the tactics and terminology of the business world.

Both groups graduate with a broader and deeper understanding of the sector, and the tools to put new knowledge into action.

GRADUATE CERTIFICATE IN MINERAL AND ENERGY ECONOMICSThis course provides an introduction to economic, financial and management issues that are important to the mineral and energy sectors.
