Over 50 well established investigators from 30 leading US and international institutions bring transdisciplinary expertise to bear in highly relevant areas. The Center will build upon a solid research and training base with ongoing NIH funded projects directly related to childhood obesity and systems analysis. The center, structured as U.S. institutions in partnership with international institutions, will undertake epidemiological research linking biological with environmental and macrosocial factors of childhood obesity, conduct and provide developmental research funding for environmental and policy evaluations and/or interventions, and establish an infrastructure for postgraduate systems-oriented research and training in the field of obesity and chronic disease prevention and control. The Centers includes 4 cores and 3 key research projects. The 4 cores are: Administrative Core, Research Resources Core, Education and Training Core, and Rapid Response and Pilot Study Core. obesity research considering its large population size, area and regional contextual variation; the rapid economic growth and many social- environmental transformations over the past 2-3 decades including dramatic changes in its food systems and food environment. The large variance and change in macro-level contextual variables and in health outcomes including obesity can help advance understanding of disparities in the U.S. through comparative studies. Findings will have many important policy implications for the U.S. and other countries. Role: PI Title: “China Obesity Blue Paper Project- a comprehensive national obesity prevention and control program” Funding: Chinese Nutrition Society ($ 30,300, 3/2016-12/2017) Objectives: Working with of a group of internationally recognized experts and scholars in the field of obesity research and management in China and overseas to review and summarize the evidence on the obesity epidemic, diagnosis, treatment and prevention; develop obesity prevention and treatment guidelines and strategies and standardize evaluation including for specific population groups and settings in China.
