How can parents help - English
1. Resilient Readers: pupils should be encouraged to read challenging text (e.g. Black Beauty, Animal Farm, 1984, or Great Expectations).
2. Reading Skills: pupils should be encouraged to practise reading skills (e.g. explain, explore, analyse, and evaluate text) at home. Ask them questions about the book and what they learnt from it.
3. Improve memorisation: commit to memory important quotes which resonate with you as a reader.
4. Write: Encourage them to write a summary of the book, an article on current affairs or even keep a diary. They should use any new vocabulary they have learnt.
5. Homework: Ensure that homework is completed to the best of their ability.

How can parents help -Mathematics
1. Role Model: Talk about mathematics in a positive way, even if you find the subject challenging. A positive attitude about mathematics is infectious.
2. Establish Routines: Practice everyday without fail, little and often works best. “mathematical muscle.” Marcus du Sautoy (Professor of Maths at University of Oxford)
3. Re-visit topics: Encourage your daughter to go over topics from previous weeks/months/years.
4. Problem Solving: Maths is all around us. Discuss everyday mathematics problems that you come across. Ask her to think about the different approaches of solving the problem. Often there is more than one method, some more efficient than others, analyse this.
5. Resilience: Encourage persistence. Some problems take time to solve.
