We all "know" that being active in a local Chamber of Commerce is an effective business strategy. But, do you know "why" that is so important? Well, the Schapiro Group conducted a study with consumers and found out that membership in the Chamber has a significant ROI for businesses that make the investment.

First, it communicates to consumers that you use good business practices, are reputable, care about your customers, and are involved in our community.

Second, when consumers know that a small business is a member of the local Chamber of Commerce, they are 80% more likely to purchase goods or services from that company in the future. Think about that... 80% more likely to do business with you in the future!

Because of you and your investment in your business and in our Chamber, we are able to make a measurable difference both in the success ofbusinesses and in the quality of life in Manatee County. We foster a greater sense of community, offer more than 100 programs and initiatives tosupport local businesses, engage thousands ofpeople to make stronger connections with one another, drive awareness of issues, identify and train emerging leaders, and advocate on behalf of small business.

2014 marks the Manatee Chamber’s 125th Anniversary. We have been working to build a positive business environment while enhancing our community’s quality of life in many different ways for 125years. We have evolved over time (and with a few different names) tobecome the largest Chamber in the Tampa Bay region with more than2,000 members representing 76,000+ employees. The Manatee Chamber serves as the largest business voice in our region working on your behalf each and every day... and investment in the Chamber starts at just $1 a day for our smallest businesses.

What's in It for Me?The benefits of your Manatee Chamber membership are numerous. In fact, the list is so long that it can be difficult to know where to start. We knowthat some Chamber member benefits will be more important to you thanothers and our staff and dedicated volunteers are here to help you navigate through.

There are benefits that are universal - and really don't require you todo anything more than renew your Manatee Chamber membership each year. Your membership conveys credibility and stability to your customers and we areproud to promote your business in numerous ways - all so that you can go about the critical business of running your business!

"I'm Thinking This is Just for the Big Guys"We provide every member with access and visibility, strategic networking, powerful advocacy, and a commitment to creating our region’s next generation of leaders. We recognize the importance of small business and provide numerous opportunities specifically designed for our small business members. Here is just a sampling:

Join us to find out what’s really happening in the Middle East from our distinguished speaker Dr. Matt Kroenig, as seen on CNN.

U.S. policy on Iran's steadily advancing nuclear program is a critically important national security issue that evokes strong passions on all sides. Whether opponents like it or not, the military option is being seriously considered in high-level policy circles in Washington D.C. and outside analysts have a responsibility to fully debate the merits

of this course of action in order to inform these ongoing discussions. Don’t miss this rare opportunity to hear from this dynamic expert and find out what’s really happening with Iran’s nuclear program …the sanctions, the negotiations, Israel’s role.

Dr. Kroenig is Associate Professor and International Relations Field Chair in the Department of Government at Georgetown University and a Nonresident Senior Fellow at the Brent Scowcroft Center on International Security at the Atlantic Council. He is a former adviser on Iran policy in the Office of the Secretary of Defense and the author of "A Time to Attack: The Looming Threat of Iran's Nuclear Program" (forthcoming 2014). His articles on U.S. national security policy have appeared in The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, USA Today and many other outlets.

The 2014 BBC “Guide to Better Business” Directory is Here!

The 2014 Official Guide to Better Business Directory was distributed to area residents in the January 24th edition of the Bradenton Herald. This important publication lists all members of the Manatee Chamber’s Better Business Council, and provides important consumer tips and information. Businesses listed in this publication have passed a formal screening process which confirms license and insurance requirements, and each has formally pledged to uphold the BBC’s “Code of Ethics”.

The BBC Directory is widely distributed throughout the year at the Chamber’s Downtown Bradenton and Lakewood Ranch offices, in our Welcome Manatee relocation packet distributed at all four Tax Collector offices, and at many of our member business locations. Consumers can also access the Directory online at www.ManateeChamber.com/BBC.

If you would like additional copies of the Directory for your business, or if you would like more information about the BBC, please contact Tina West at 941-748-1325 or [email protected].

Since its inception in 1916, The Manatee County Fair has been an annual celebration of the rich agricultural heritage of Manatee County. The theme for this year’s Manatee County Fair was “Celebrating the Great Outdoors.”

The fair is always a showcase for the best of Manatee County. This year's fair featured exciting Arts and Crafts exhibits, vendors, livestock shows and auctions, competitions, a thrill-packed midway, a variety of great entertainment and, of course, fair food - all packed into ten days and nights. The Manatee County Fair also has one of the largest 4-H and FFA Youth Livestock Shows in the state of Florida. There is something for everyone on the grounds at the Manatee County Fair!

The Pittsburgh Pirates will bring Major League Baseball to Manatee County for the 46th consecutive year when Spring Training opens in February. National League Most Valuable Player Andrew McCutchen and the core of Pittsburgh’s 2013 playoff team return to Bradenton to prepare for the 2014 campaign.

Spring Training provides fans the opportunity to enjoy baseball played at the highest level up close in the intimate confines of historic McKechnie Field. Bradenton’s classic ballpark was freshly renovated just one year ago to enhance its fan friendly environment, earning recognition as the “Best Ballpark Renovation” in 2013 from Ballpark Digest.

Pirates Spring Training includes opportunities to take in a Major League game with family, friends or coworkers. The Pirates offer competitive pricing on season, group, and individual tickets. McKechnie Field’s new boardwalk provides a scenic spot for picnics and the Left Field Party Deck is available for catered private parties. Enjoy Pittsburgh Pirates baseball in the Florida sunshine this spring in Bradenton!
