#1) 1999-2000 Biomedical Engineering Fellowship, University of Michigan This full tuition waiver and stipend is awarded to highly recruited graduate students for

the first year of graduate studies at Michigan. 2000-2004 Doctoral Support, Automotive Research Center, Ann Arbor, MI This support was gained through application for the specific self-initiated project of

“Shoulder biomechanics for vehicular design and manufacturing.” This was awarded through a competitive application process that included development of a peer-reviewed multi-year research plan.

2004 Postdoctoral Training Fellowship, University of Michigan Institute of Gerontology (Declined for faculty position at The University of Waterloo)

This selection was through a competitive application process. This NIH-funded award targeted research on age-related changes in musculoskeletal health, specifically with respect to their impact on orthopedic injury potential, with a skeletal fragility focus.

2004 NIH NRSA Kirschstein Postdoctoral Research Fellowship Number: 1-F32-AR051274-01 (Declined for faculty position at The University of Waterloo)

This nationwide competition included the submission of a research grant including a fully described three-year study. The application focused on the computer simulation and experimental measurement of micro-crack propagation in trabecular bone.

Canadian biomechanics researcher within the first 6 years of independent career as a scientist. The selection was made by an impartial awards committee and 2010 was the inaugural award. Peer competition for the award consists of all biomechanics researchers at an equivalent career stage. Only one award is made every 2 years. (Refereed Conference Paper #44)

2010 Early Researcher Award, Ontario Ministry of Innovation This competitive provincial award is presented yearly to researchers across all

specializations and is intended to assist in building an effective research team early in an academic career. Awards have been annual (this is the 6th cycle). The award provides financial assistance for the hiring of trainees for a five year time period.
