●A Brief Background
Fresh out of University, I had an opportunity to live in Tokyo for a year. After 3 years studying in
Palmerston I was ready for any. After one year in Tokyo my fascination in Asian cultures had
begun. On returning to New Zealand, I moved to Wellington and got my first real job working for
Easy PC Computer Rentals in a dual marketing and technical role.
After 3 years being suit I resigned to pursue studies in the Visual Arts hoping to inject a bit of
passion back into my life. After studying Fine Arts for 2 years I decided it was time to re-join the
digital age. With a passion for graphics I studied graphic design at the NZ College of Art and
Design for a year, studying print and internet design. Following that I set myself up as a freelance
graphic designer for 3 years in Christchurch. While I enjoyed this, I found it hard making ends meet
so needed a new perspective on things. Thus I returned to Asia this time South Korea.
After another year abroad teaching, I developed a keen interest in becoming a teacher so I
retrained as a Secondary School Teacher and spent several years as a dedicated ICT teacher, one
of which I was HOD of ICT at East Otago High School. From 2011 to the end of 2015, I have been
working at Bayfield High School teaching a range of subjects including IT, English, Maths, Science,
PE, and Social Studies.
Its 2017 and I have just returned from teaching High School in Shanghai, China, in a newly
established International High School in Shanghai. An invaluable experience which gave me a
fresh ideas on how to best meet the needs of students, both from a vastly different culture such as
China, as well as for students here in NZ. The importance of helping students to develop a passion
for learning being a focus.
A passionate photographer, artist and educator, I am a meaningful and stimulating communicator
and I derive a lot of pleasure working as part of a team with a clear sense of purpose and direction.
