I recall when Anna lived on Fietz St., she would leave her balcony door open so a certain pigeon would walk in to be fed bread crumbs. She had a very special puppy named Oreo, who predeceased her in 2007. In 1952 Anna married Walter Skibinsky and they farmed in the Canora area. In May of 1953 her son Nester was born. Within a month of Nester’s birth their marriage was dissolved and she became a single parent when it was not so common to be one. She strived to make a good life for herself and her son. This meant that while she worked in Canora, Nester was raised by her mother Doris. She worked as a waitress at the Palace Cafe. Upon her return to Canora, she worked at the Canora Bakery as a pastry chef. There was many a wedding in the area that she would make pies for. SKIBINSKY - It is with deepest sorrow that the family of AnnaSkibinsky of Yorkton announce her passing, Friday, August 7, 2015 at the Yorkton District Nursing Home at the age of 83 years. Anna was born on January 5, 1932, south of Buchanan on 6th Ranch, just in time for Christmas. As a young girl she loved to go visit her grand- mother Anna for fresh baked bread and jam. As she grew up she attended Gravel Hill School and later when her family moved to a new farm she attended Devil’s Lake School, achieving her grade 8. Anna was the third child born to Sam & Doris, so she helped with the lighter farm chores and became handy in the kitchen at a very early age. She had 2 older brothers and 2 younger brothers and a younger sister to get in trouble with. While most youngsters on farms played with dogs and cats, Anna befriended a young badger named Jackie which loved oranges. I recall when Anna lived on

Fietz St., she would leave her balcony door open so a certain pigeon would walk in to be fed bread crumbs. She had a very special puppy named Oreo, who predeceased her in 2007. In 1952 Anna married Walter Skibinsky and they farmed in the Canora area. In May of 1953 her son Nester was born. This meant that while she worked in Canora, Nester was raised by her mother Doris. She worked as a waitress at the Palace Cafe. After six years, Anna and Nester moved to Swift Current for a short period of time where she worked at a meat locker plant. Upon her return to Canora, she worked at the Canora Bakery as a pastry chef. There was many a wedding in the area that she would make pies for. In 1971 she moved to Yorkton and began work at Community Foods as a meat wrapper and clerk. Upon the store closing, she began employment with Canada Safeway until the store closed around 1990. She then worked with Locomart and Sobeys until her retirement. She lived most of her retirement at Fisher Court in Yorkton. In 2011 she was admitted to the Yorkton Nursing Home. LANGAN - Landry Dean Langan was born on January 23, 1966 in Yorkton, SK, the fifth of eight children born to Philip and Evelyn (nee Paul) Langan. The family moved to Regina, SK in 1969 where Landry resided until August of 1990. He attended Holy Rosary Elementary School from Kindergarten to Grade 8. During this time, Landry developed his love of running and all sports. Landry and his brothers, “the Langan boys” always took the school to the championships and won. He went on to attend Miller Comprehensive High School in Regina. During family visits to Yorkton in his early teen years, Landry and Yvonne Pelletier began to take notice of each other and soon the sparks began to fly! Their relationship flourished over time and they began their beautiful family. Landry and Yvonne officially moved in together with their two daughters, 25 years ago this past August 1. Since that time, the two Love Birds added

three sons to their nest. Landry had so many interests and he excelled at every one of them . . . except singing! The first thing you think of is Landry’s kind heart that was so filled with love, compassion, generosity and laughter. Landry really did offer the shirt right off of his back, not just to family, but to friends and even strangers. He was there offering help and always had everyone’s back. Landry never forgot anyone who had ever helped him and he always came through when you needed his help in return. Sometimes it took years, but Landry always came through. The next thing you think of was Landry’s amazing sense of humour. He loved to laugh! It didn’t matter what it was or even if he had upset you, that man would make you laugh. He reminded you that laughter was the best medicine . . . and then made some more jokes. Landry loved his wife, Yvonne, all of their children, all of their grandchildren, all of his family and his friends. Anyone who ever spoke with him knew how much these people meant to him. Landry’s eyes would light up and the biggest smile grew across his face and you could see the pride and love he had. Landry also loved dogs . . . even though he was very allergic to dogs, Landry always managed to bring them home as a child. A few of the dogs he loved over the years were, Blackie, Tuffy, King and Casheous. It didn’t matter what breed of dog it was, there was a Lab, a German Shepherd (that looked like it was crossed with a wolf!), a Saint Bernard, a Pit Bull and a few others. Landry didn’t care, he loved them all. Landry received the nick name of “Arf-Arf Dog” as a child because he would curl up on the floor, right beside the stove, just like a little doggie. Landry was also a scientist who invented many things. He and his younger brother, Phil Jr. had even built a mini-laboratory in the basement of the family home on Rae Street in Regina. Landry went to far as to stock it with test tubes and Bunson burners. Everyone knew that Landry had a love of cooking. He made every kind of food taste amazing. He claimed to have invented the original Chicken Caesar Wrap. Whether it was true or not, he sure made those so mouth watering! In school, Landry was exceptional at Math. This skill came in very handy with his work as a Professional Cleaner with Fire Restoration and Window Cleaning. He knew the exact measurements to any chemical mixture or formula. Landry was very creative. This man could do ANYTHING! He painted homes (inside and out), fixed cars, did construction work, cooked, cleaned and could even sew! Landry was so amazingly talented that he mastered any and everything he had decided to do. Landry was predeceased by both Paternal and Maternal Grandparents, Cecile and Pat Langan and Marie and George Paul; his mother, Evelyn (nee Paul) Langan; his son, Landon Pelletier; his grandson, Maddox Quewezance; his brother, Earl Langan, Sr. and numerous other family and friends. He leaves to cherish his memory, his loving wife, Yvonne; their children, Christine (Marlon), Charmaine (Dallas), Eric (Winter) and Austin; their grandchildren, Leena, Nevaeh, Draedyn, Mason, Eric, Jr. and Gracelyn; his father, Philip Langan, Sr.; his siblings, Ron of Yorkton, Dennis (Darlene) of Yorkton, Sharon of Yorkton, Philip, Jr. of Yorkton, Maryann (Owen) of Yorkton, Dallas (Sabrina) of Birdtail, MB; numerous nephews and nieces that he loved dearly, extended family, in-laws and friends. The Wake commenced at the Yorkton Friendship Centre on Wednesday, August 12, 2015. The Prayer Service took place at the Yorkton Friendship Centre on Thursday, August 13, 2015 with Father Francis Hengen officiating. The Funeral Mass was celebrated from St. Gerard’s Roman Catholic Church on Friday, August 14, 2015 with Father Francis Hengen officiating. The pianist, Chris Fisher led the congregation in the singing of the hymns, “Amazing Grace”, “Peace is Flowing Like a River”, “The Lord’s My Shepherd” and “How Great Thou Art”. The Eulogy and Prayers of Intercession were given by Shariann Gust. The Readers were Sharon Langan and Donna Pelletier and the Cross Bearers were Jerry Langan, Draedyn Pelletier and Leena Pelletier. The Interment Service took place at the Yorkton City Cemetery with Father Francis Hengen officiating. The Honourary Pallbearers were; Sons-in-Law, Marlon and Dallas; Brother-in- Law, Paul; Cousin, Clayton; Close Family Friend, Bruno; Family Friends, Glen and Myles; Nephews, Chris “Troll Man”, Earl, Jr., Francis, Darren, Donovan,Chris; Nieces, Deanna (Special Niece), Michelle, Tyneaka. The Active Pall bearers were Eric Langan, Austin Pelletier, Derek Langan, Jeff Langan, Robin Pelletier and Dallas Langan. Friends so wishing may forward their condolences to the family by visiting www.christiesfuneralhome.com. PLAN NUMBER 1-2-665DESIGNED FOR A

SLOPED LOTThis two-bedroom

home, designed for a lot that slopes to the back, appears compact from the outside, but contains all the amenities any home-owner could wish for. And since the plans include an unfinished basement, there will be lots of room for expan-sion.

Beyond the covered porch, always a boon in bad weather is the foyer, with a coat closet

ahead and to the right. Directly ahead is the great-room, with a gas fireplace to ensure cosy evenings during the cooler months. Generous windows overlook a cov-ered deck. Ceilings in the great room and the foyer measure 11 feet high, while the rest of the ground-floor ceilings are nine feet.

Also overlooking the back garden, with a door-way to the covered deck, is the dining room, where an optional buffet will provide extra serving

and storage space. The kitchen is sepa-

rated from both the great room and the dining area by a polygonal work island that includes the double sink. A walk-through pantry at one end will provide storage space for canned goods and other staples, and provides entry to the laundry room.

The laundry room can double as a mud room, thanks to a closet and bench, useful for chang-ing muddy boots, and access to the double

garage.In the sleeping wing,

the master bedroom is located at the back of the home, for privacy. As well as a roomy walk-in closet, there is an en-suite with double sinks, a tub and a shower stall.

Adjacent, overlooking the front garden is the second bedroom, with an extra-deep window sill and a three-piece bath-room nearby.

Exterior finishes include cedar shakes and stucco with brick accents, painted trim and decorative garage doors.

This home measures 47 feet wide by 61 feet deep, for a total of 1,632 square feet.

Plans for design 1-2-665 are available for $721 (set of 5), $820(set of 8) and $896 for a super set of 10. B.C. residents add 7% Prov. Sales Tax. Also add $35.00 for Priority courier charges within B.C. or $65.00 outside of B.C. Please add 5% G.S.T. or 13% H.S.T. (where applicable) to both the plan price and postage charges.

Our NEW 47TH Edition of the Home Plan Catalogue containing over 400 plans is avail-able for $15.50 (includes taxes, postage and han-dling). Make all cheque and money orders pay-able to “JENISH HOUSE DESIGN LTD” and mail to:

Beating the summer heatView from the Cheap

Seats is kind of an exten-sion of the newsroom. Whenever our three regular reporters, Calvin Daniels, Thom Barker and Randy Brenzen are in the building together, it is frequently a site of heated debate. This week: What is the best way to beat the summer heat?

VegitateIf I had a dollar for

every time someone said ‘it’s hot’ (usually with some colourful descrip-tion of the heat includ-ed), in the last week I’d have enough for a rather major graphic novels purchase.

We all love summer because it’s warm, but when the temperature hits 30 Celsius we start to get irritable and start seeking out the shade, fan purchases jump, and we dream of air condi-tioning.

At 35C we get past irritable to something just short of nasty. Sweat stains are just common wardrobe accents. We no longer want to function above a lethargic lounge on the chesterfield, a fan or two, or three blasting directly at us.

If we hit 40C, rare on

the thermometer here, but happens when you factor in some humid-ity equivalents, well we basically melt into an amoeba-like puddle, brain function a dull buzz like bacon in a fry-ing pan.

So how best to beat the heat?

Well let’s be honest it’s a battle we can’t actually win, we must simply sur-vive.

Drink tea. No, not the cold stuff. Hot tea helps, because it raises body temperature mak-ing the difference with the ambient temper-ature less. At least that is what my grandfather said, although he would not have used the word ambient.

I’ll admit I still like cold drinks though.

Finding an air con-ditioned bunker is the approach of many.

For me it just seems the inevitable return to the outdoor blast furnace is worse.

In the end I sort of surrender to the sweat. I

try to summer hibernate, become as rock like as possible, usually with the aforementioned graphic novel, or a Blue Jays or CFL game on the tele-vision.

And when I have to crawl into the sun, well I do what we humans are supposed to do in the heat, I sweat, and verbal-ly note the extreme heat at every opportunity to whoever happens by.

- Calvin Daniels

Jump in a lakeThe absolute best way

to beat a heat wave is, quite simply, to move to a cooler place.

If for some reason you can’t do that (you know, you don’t have one or two hundred grand lying around) then the second best way is to combine several smaller ways together to create a per-fect ‘anti-heat’ environ-ment.

First you turn on your

central air conditioningto 17 or 18 degrees. If you don’t have that, then turn your window air condi-tioning unit on full blast.

Grab several of thoseice packs for coolers, wrap them in towels andput them back in the freezer (we’ll need these later).

The next step is to finda winter sport either on television or via DVD for you to watch (I rec-ommend anything TeamCanada hockey wise).

Have all of that pre-pared at home, then go to7/11 and buy yourself the biggest Slurpee you can,as well as an ice cream treat (my suggestion is a Klondike Bar).

Bring that stuff backhome to your (by now) freezing cave, strip downto your underoos, go tothe freezer and grab theice packs in towels.

Return to your chosensitting place (I’d sayrecliner in front of thetelevision), place the icepacks in whatever area you so choose (for myself, under the arms, betweenthe legs and behind the back of the neck) and enjoy beating the 35-plusheat.

Or go jump in a lake.Up to you.

- Randy Brenzen
