CULTUREThere are 4 ethnic groups who live in Chihuahua, about 110 thousand people. First, the Tarahumaras or raramuris, they are a predominant group they represent the 90% of total indigenous population. In second place, the Tepehuanos or Odames represent the 8% and the 1% correspond to town Pima, Oichkama or Ooba.

The Tarahumaras or raramuris

There are about 50 thousand Tarahumaras in Chihuahua they live in the Sierra Madre Occidental in the towns of Bocoyna, Urique, Guacochi, Guadalupe and Calvo; Batopilas, Carichi, Balleza and Nonoava. The Tarahumaras call themselves rarmuri, it word means runners to foot (runners walk).

Language

The raramurislanguage to come from a trend of language named uto-azteca. It is Tarahumara language and haves five dialect variants according to the geographical location: Central, Western, Northern, Southeastern and Southwestern.

The housing

The Tarahumaras live in poor houses or in caves. Who lived in home have barns and farmyard. Their houses are made to wood, adobe, quarry or stone. Crafts

The women made pots, cajetes, plates, glasses, cups and jug which are of mud. Too using the palm leaf to weave baskets. Meanwhile, the men made violins, drums, bows, spoons and carve figures with Wood. Others weave blankets and girdles of wool. When the French poet Antonin Artaud visited Norogchic on the Sierra Tarahumara in 1936, he to be lost in wonderment by the ethnic groups lifestyle. The Tarahumara cosmogony was to Artaud as a revelation, especially the peyote religious rite. It has been practiced by the Tarahumaras since prehispanic times and represents the meeting between man and god. Although the Raramuris dont belive in God, that word doesnt exist in their language. They worship to trascendent principle of nature wich is female and male. It is a dual principle.
