Paper Bag Christmas 2017 Please join us Wednesday, December 6 for fun and excitement during the annual Paper Bag Christmas! Dinner will be at 5:30 p.m. with the program in the sanctuary, 6:15 p.m. Come join the Christmas animals, stars and trees and make a joyful noise unto all the world. Please call or email the church office by Monday Dec. 4 to make your reservations
or fill in the Whee Wed reservation cards in the pews. 2017 .
Special Choir Christmas Music Sunday Dec. 10, 2017 11:00 a.m. Worship Service
On Christmas Eve morning, we will have the regular worship services at 9:05 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. with a Potluck Brunch at 10:00 a.m., between the two services, in the Big Fellowship Hall. Everyone is invited.
Firewood Ministry
Please continue to support the firewood ministry by volunteering to split and deliver wood on the first Saturday of every month this winter, Dec. 2, Jan. 6, Feb. 3 and Mar. 3. On Saturday December 2, we will be splitting, loading and delivering wood from 8:30 a.m. – noon. We hope you can help out! Lunch will be served.

Youth Group December Schedule Friday, December 1st at 6:00pm - Saturday, December 2nd at 12:00pm: High School Youth Lock In Saturday, December 2nd from 9:00am-12:00pm: All youth are invited to split, load, and deliver wood. Lunch is provided! Saturday, December 2nd at 6:00pm - Sunday, December 3rd at 9:00am: Middle School Youth Lock
In Sunday, December 3rd from 2:30pm-5:30pm: All youth are invited to head over to First Baptist Church in Sylva to pack Christmas food boxes for UCM. A free pizza dinner is included! Sunday, December 10th from 5:00pm-8:00pm: The High School and Middle School youth will each do a separate progressive meals, enjoying appetizers, an entree, and desserts at different youth's houses. We'll also have a white elephant gift exchange, so please bring a gift that costs $5 or less. The funnier the better! Youth will resume on Sunday, January 21st!
“JOY” Jesus Others Yourself Children’s Ministry
On Sunday, December 17, Children and their families are invited to go caroling at Skyland Care Center. We ask that children and families meet at the Center at 1 pm, where they will sing fun Christmas Carols. This is an awesome mission opportunity to spread Joy to senior adults in our community. We hope to see you there!
Children’s Sunday School “Baking Through the Bible” Each Sun. in Advent, the Sunday School children at 10:00 a.m. will have a lesson from the Bible and bake something in the kitchen about the lesson.
UMW Christmas Party All the women of the church are invited to the annual Women’s Christmas Party, Monday, December 11, 6:00-7:30 p.m., hosted by Jacke Deleeuw, 393 Suntrace Circle, Cullowhee. Please bring a finger food and a white elephant gift (a gift you do not want anymore) and be prepared for a jolly good time. The van will leave the church parking lot at 5:30 p.m. (If you need to drive separately, call Jacke at 293-9753 for directions.)
Stewardship Campaign Update We have received several more pledge commitments for 2018 and our total now stands at $300,314 which is slightly behind the same time last year. Our total 2017 pledges were $329,090 so we need to receive an additional $28,776 to equal 2017; however, we hope to see a modest overall increase to cover anticipated inflationary increases in our 2018 budget. We have 20 pledging units who pledged in 2017 that have not responded to the 2018 campaign and expect to hear from all or most of these families soon. Thanks to everyone who has pledged to the 2018 stewardship campaign. If you have any questions about your 2017 pledge or whether you have submitted a 2018 pledge, please contact Chuck Wooten at 506-4553 or at [email protected]. From the Debt Retirement Team Four months ago our mortgage balance was $190,000. Now it is $79,034.00. As money comes in, we immediately send it to the bank. Whee Wednesdays resume in January
Join us on Wednesdays for a time of food and fellowship beginning at 5:30pm, followed by classes from 6:15pm-7:00pm (yoga will begin at 6:00pm in the Small Fellowship Hall). The meal will be free, but we ask that you bring a side dish that will feed your family plus 3-4 others. The church will provide a catered meat, drinks, and dessert. Please RSVP each week so we have a count for the main dish! There will also be a fundraiser meal the last Wednesday of each month, which will allow us to support amazing ministries in our church and in our community. We look forward to another wonderful semester of Whee Wednesdays!

Heckert and Sam Garrison in the Youth Room #206.
• Adult Study – join Julia Trantham in the Glass Block Room #202 for a book study called “When Anything Goes.” We’ll discuss different aspects of our beliefs, wrestle with our own questions and points of view, and discover together why our faith is still important to us in our modern world.
• Adult Study – join David Reeves in the Weekley Library for a time of prayer and a discussion of the lectionary scripture for this week.
• Wesley Study – the college students will meet in Wesley Foundation for fun and fellowship!
• 6:00pm: College Night Yoga – led by Chad Hallyburton in the Small Fellowship Hall, Room #111.
