Job Application if Applying in PersonYou may only plan on picking up the job application, however, plan for any circumstance.

•Never go during peak business hours.

•Be prepared to fill it out, and be interviewed, if asked.

Job Application

• Fill out completely or use N/A.

• Your writing should be easy to read.

• Position desired? Expected Pay? Best answer? Open for discussion

• Make sure the ‘time available’ is correct.

• Students – 4:30 at the earliest.

• Signing an oath—no lying.

• Add clubs and organizations, volunteer service

interests/hobbies.

• Skills: Keyboarding + typing speed, basic computer

1st day

Drug Testing

• Urine or hair sample.

• Urine will go back 30 days to 6 weeks.

• Hair follicle will depend on length of hair, can go back 5 years if it is a sophisticated test.

• Hair dye doesn’t change DNA.

• Shaving the head will prevent a sample being taken but also means you will not be hired.

US Fair Labor Standards• Hours restrictions for non-agricultural

employees

• 14 years old is the minimum age for non-agricultural employment covered by the FLSA.

• The basic rules for when and where a youth may work are: • Youth 16 or 17 years old may perform any non-

hazardous job for unlimited hours.

• Youth 14 and 15 years old may work outside school hours in various non-manufacturing, non-mining, non-hazardous jobs.

• They cannot work:• More than 3 hours a day on school days, including

Fridays;

• More than 18 hours per week in school weeks;

• More than 8 hours a day or 40 hrs. in a week

US Fair Labor Standards• 14- and 15-year-olds

• may not work before 7:00 a.m., nor after 7:00 p.m.• except from June 1 through Labor Day,

• when their permissible hours are extended to 9:00 p.m.

• Under a special provision• youth 14 and 15 years old

• who are enrolled in an approved Work Experience and Career Exploration Program 

• may be employed for up to 23 hours during school weeks

• and 3 hours on school days (including during school hours).
