Kiley Phelan recently joined the CSCE sta as an
AmeriCorps VISTA ocusing on the issue o
Family Engagement in the local elementary
schools.
Kiley grew up in Milord, CT, but spent the past
our years studying Political Science and English
at Providence College in Rhode Island. She had
been involved in service growing up, but really
attributes her passion to her experiences at
Providence College. Her reshman year she mad
a trip to Tijuana, Mexico to build houses or
amilies struck by poverty. Ater returning rom
the trip she became involved in the schools
department or public and community service,
eventually leading the trip to Mexico her senior
year. Ater graduation it only made sense to loo
or an experience that would incorporate her
interest in service and higher education. She is
excited to be part o the Champlain College
community, and is looking orward to a great ye
o service and civic engagement. Also, she has a
irrational ear osnakes, but
really its not a
joke.
I am a rst year student here at Champlain
College majoring in Criminal Justice. I amoriginally rom Springvale, ME but I ended
up moving to Plano, TX last October. Some
things you should know about me are that
I have an extremely irrational ear o rogs,
I love to rock climb, and have been a ballet
dancer or 16 years. I you ever see someone
leaping and twirling about campus, it will
more than likely be me. My rst interaction
with The Center was this summer when I
attended the Bike Montreal Summer Launch
Program, which was such a great
experience! Now I get to enjoy being in their
ofce everyday as a new work study sta
member. Unlike in high school, where I only
did the minimum requirement o volunteer
hours, I plan to be very involved with the
community during my time here at
Champlain. So ar I have volunteered at the
DISMAS House and have helped the
Catamount Trail Association clear a new ski
path. And I cant wait to do so much more!
