DEAR CROZET COMMUNITY:

It’s going to be a vibrant spring at the Crozet PARC YMCA and we’re glad you’re a part of it!

This marks our first year serving the Crozet area in youth development, healthy living and

social responsibility, and with your help, we will keep growing stronger every year.

In addition to some of our most popular classes and programs—such as swim lessons, group

exercise, and summer camp—we’re pleased to call your attention to four new programs we

hope will address important needs for our members and participants.

THEMED BIRTHDAY PARTIES

February 23rd we will start offering themed birthday parties! Parties include: admission for 10

children, one hour in the multipurpose room and one hour in the pool, a YMCA party attendant

assigned specifically to your child’s party, party invitations, standard party decorations, pizza

and drinks, birthday cake, party goodie bags for each child, and a YMCA Birthday T-shirt for

the birthday boy or girl. See page 13 of the program guide for more information.

YOUTH SOCCER

This spring and summer, we will offer a developmental youth soccer program for ages 3—5 in

the Crozet area. The YMCA Instructional League is a skill-development program designed to

introduce children to the basics of soccer in a fun and inviting environment. See page 12 of

the program guide for more information.

PORPOISE SWIM CLASS

This new class is a pre-swim team program aimed at working on stroke technique, endurance,

and skills, as well as starts and flip turns. This is a great developmental program for summer

JSL’s, other competitive swim programs or to simply have fun! See page 10 of the program

guide for more information.

COMMUNITY GARDEN

This spring we will start a community garden. The garden will be a terrific teaching opportunity

for all of our youth development programs, as well as provide healthy snacks for our youth

programs. Once our yield is stabilized, we’ll be offering member produce days. At Healthy Kids

Day® on April 27th, we will plant the seeds to our first community garden! See page 13 for

more information.

Please consider spending an hour or two helping with weeding and care on our volunteer day.

It’s a great way to get some fresh air, exercise and sneak a couple cherry tomatoes!

JOIN US IN SOMETHING BIG

Volunteer, Donate, Advocate

As a nonprofit, the Y is able to strengthen community

because of the dedicated youth, families and individuals

who share our passion and make the Y part of their lives.

They give their time, resources and talents—every day

and in hundreds of ways—because they know they can

improve the lives of others while enhancing their own

through the Y.

Well-being for many of our neighbors is all too frequently

limited by income or social isolation. In low-income

communities, the Y offers opportunities for every child,

teen or adult to achieve his or her potential regardless of

economic status. With your help, the Y can continue to

expand programming and outreach where it is needed

most. Please consider volunteering your time, making a

contribution, or sharing your story of the Y’s impact. If

you would interested in volunteering at the Y, contact

Jessica Maslaney at [email protected].

Membership in the Y is a special thing. Be a part

of a leading nonprofit organization for youth

development, healthy living and social responsibility.

When you join the Y you belong to a place where:

• Parents find a safe, positive environment for children

to learn good values, social skills and behaviors.

• Families come together to have fun and spend quality

time with each other.

• Children and teens play, learn who they are and what

they can achieve.

• Adults connect with friends, pursue interests and

learn how to live healthier.

• Communities thrive because neighbors support each

other and give back.

• We all build relationships that further our sense of

belonging and purpose.

Membership For All

We believe everyone deserves a Y, so the Crozet PARC

YMCA offers financial assistance to individuals and

families who might otherwise not be able to afford

membership or program fees. Ask a staff member about

financial assistance. It’s easy to apply and the Y does

everything it can to make the Y a place for all.

VISITOR/GUEST PRIVILEGES

Community members may utilize YMCA facilities as a visitor by purchasing a

guest pass:

Youth (under 12): $5

Adult (12 and older): $10

Senior (65 and older): $5

Time and day usage restrictions may apply. Please contact the Welcome

Center for access limitations. Members of the YMCA may host individuals

and families as guests at no charge as a benefit of membership up to 2

times per calendar year. Guest passes can be obtained at the front desk.

Additional visits are subject to daily rates.

AWAY PROGRAM (ALWAYS WELCOME AT THE Y)

The YMCA AWAY program allows members to visit Ys across the nation

while also opening our doors to Y members nationally. Ys within a 60-mile

radius of the PARC YMCA will be restricted to 5-visits per calendar year.

Some restrictions apply and can be obtained at the front desk.

YMCA CODE OF CONDUCT

The YMCA is committed to providing a safe and welcoming environment for

all members and guests. We ask individuals to act appropriately at all times

when they are in our facility or participating in our programs. We expect all

persons using the facility to behave in a mature and responsible way and to

respect the rights and dignity of others.

ATTIRE

Please wear proper attire in all areas of the YMCA. Shirts, shorts, sweats

and shoes are appropriate attire. No black-soled or street shoes are

allowed in the aerobics room. No open-toed shoes are allowed in the fitness

room or the group exercise room. Proper swimming suits are required in the

pool.

LOCKERS/LOCKEROOMS

Lockers are available for day use by members and guests. You may bring

your own lock and remove it at the end of each visit. Items left overnight

will be removed from the locker room and placed in lost and found. Contents

will be kept for 30-days. Invest in a strong lock and always secure your

belongings. We recommend you not bring valuables in the facility; the YMCA

is not responsible for lost or stolen items. Members and guests ages 5 and

up are to use their same gender locker-rooms. Ages 4 and under are

permitted to use opposite gender locker-rooms with a parent or guardian.

FACILITY MAINTENANCE CLOSINGS

Major maintenance in our facilities, including the put up and take down of

the dome requires that we close certain areas for extended periods of time,

during which time members may continue to use other areas of the facility.

LOST AND FOUND

Lost and found is located at the Welcome Center. Articles found in the

building should be turned in to the staff at the front desk. All items turned

in at the Lost and Found will be kept for a 30-day period. At the end of 30-

days, items will be donated to charity. The YMCA is not responsible for lost

or stolen property.

Children under the age of 12 must be accompanied and supervised by a

paying parent/adult (age 18 and up) at all times, unless the child is in an

organized program. All children ages 5 to 11 will be tested to determine

their swim safety. If the guard determines that a child is a non-swimmer, a

wristband will be issued. On subsequent visits, non-swimmers will be

issued wristbands after checking in at the pool welcome desk. All children

wearing wristbands must be within an arm’s length of a parent/adult (age

18 and up). Children under age 5 will be presumed to be non-swimmers

and must always be within an arm’s length of a parent/adult when in the

water. Parents may elect to waive the swim test and we will issue a wrist-

band to indicate the non-swimmer status. Life vests are available at the

pool free of charge.

USE OF WELLNESS CENTER BY CHILDREN

Children under the age of 12 are not permitted in the Wellness Center.

Children ages 12-14 must be accompanied and supervised by a parent/

MEMBER HIGHLIGHT — REBECCA ROGERS NELSON

“As I sat on a stationary bike at the Crozet YMCA, I peddled vigorously and flipped through a magazine. It was

the first magazine I’ve looked at in about three years, and I realized that Crozet PARC YMCA has changed my life.

I know, sounds extreme, but it is absolutely true. I had just finished the wonderfully exhausting 9 am Express

Strength Class and was still enjoying sprinting from an activity, other than scrubbing my bathroom floor, that

engaged my sweat glands. I was waiting for my youngest daughter, Lily, to finish up her Jumble Bugs gymnastics

class and realized I had something I had not had in a while-- time to myself! This summer, like everyone’s, was

amazingly full with beach vacations, camp schedules, vacation Bible school, etc. But the pool days with my

family were the best. All six of us would go over for a late afternoon swim and then head back home in time to

throw something on the grill for dinner. Now that the kids are back in school and my mornings are filled with

food shopping and errands, I’ve carved out three mornings a week at the gym, just for me. That way I can tackle

that bathroom floor with more muscle, energy, and maybe even a satisfied smile. Thank you, Crozet YMCA! “

- Rebecca Rogers Nelson

We love our members and are grateful for each one of you! Thank you for your kind words, Rebecca!

workouts, stroke instruction, clinics

goal is to help swimmers develop stroke technique, improve fitness,

train for specific goals, and provide active support for a healthy

lifestyle. With workouts for beginning, slow, medium and fast swimmers,

participants should ideally have a basic understanding and competency

of the freestyle/front crawl stroke, as well as an interest in developing
