D ear Ceramics, Summer has quickly come and
gone and now we are already fin-
ished with the first quarter of the
2015-2016 school year. One of the
many upgrades made over the sum-
mer was the resurfacing of the track
and painting of the concession stand
and press box at the track. The re-
surfacing was desperately needed
and should help add many years to
the useful life of our track. I have
seen many of our community mem-
bers out there enjoying it this fall.
By this point in the year, the
students and teachers have settled
into their routines. I have enjoyed
spending time in our buildings see-
ing our teachers and students hard at
work. Some of their accomplish-
ments so far this year are highlighted
in this newsletter.
Even though this is my second
year here at Crooksville, I continue
to be impressed with the amount of
community support. Our Open
House at the beginning of the year
was packed as usual and I have seen
many of you at the various sporting
events this fall. I encourage you to
attend one of our upcoming events.
We all must work together to pro-
vide the best education possible for
our students.
Your partner in education,
Matt Sheridan

A Note from the Superintendent
Improvements to the High School Media Center
Over the summer the media center underwent drastic improvements.
Walls were removed, fresh paint was applied and new stations were creat-
ed. It is a completely open space now with a computer lab, a green screen
and two separate learn-
ing areas with smart-
boards and streaming
televisions. Teachers
have taken advantage of
the new area bringing
all classes to create and
develop high interest
learning opportunities.
Independent
Learning Lab
The high school now has an independent learning lab monitored by Mr.
Doug Carder. This lab provides flexible scheduling for students in special
circumstances and with multiple needs. We can provide credit recovery for
those whom need help with graduation requirements and also provide mul-
tiple opportunities for those who are on college pathways to obtain credits
from universities. We currently have 107 students who are taking at least
one class in any area of these offered. It has been a tremendous success.

News from the Ceramics
Principal, Kevin Smith
Crooksville High School Home-
coming festivities took place the
week of September 28—October 3
with “spirit week.” The football
team played Philo on Friday with an
overtime win and a dance was held
on Saturday. Pictured below is the
2015 Homecoming Court (left to
right) Senior—Kaitlyn Mills, Jun-
ior—Cassidy Lindsey, Senior—Josie
Channel, Sophomore—Carson Mil-
ler, Senior—Homecoming Queen
Casey Hurst, Freshman—Alanah
Williams.
With the help of teacher Mr. J.J.
LaBatte (coordinator) and seniors,
Tanner German and Jade Thompson
(student ambassadors) we conducted
our first blood drive to help support
the Red Cross. It is a great service
by our students and staff to help sup-
port this wonderful organization. We
keep track of our student’s contribu-
tions and if seniors donate four times
they receive a red cord to wear for
graduation honoring
their service. The
high school will con-
duct it’s next blood
drive November 12
in the gymnasium.
Crooksville Athletics Coach Doug Carder’s cross
country runners set some personal
records this season led by juniors—
Dustin O’Neal and Colton Bolyard;
sophomore—Noah Hurford, junior—
Kolvin Hunter. Dustin O’Neal won
the boys race at our Crooksville Fall
Crooksville High School Crooksville High School Crooksville High School Classic. The girls squad is led by
sophomores—Paige Beish and
Anessa Trussell.
Coach Phil Wollenberg had four
high school golfers this season, not
enough for a boys or girls team.
Freshman, Brock White was our only
golfer to qualify for the district meet.
Coach Kim Reed’s volleyball
team played well this season. Led by
sophomore—Carson Miller, jun-
iors—Lacey Ebert and Lauren Ram-
bo, and senior— Jade Thompson,
these girls are in the top of the league
in kills, serving percentage, aces, and
digs. The team took second place
earlier in the season at the Buckeye
Trail Volleyball Tournament.
Coach Chad Mickey’s varsity
football team continued to be very
competitive. Our rushing offense is
one of the best in the league led by
senior—Daulton Finck, sopho-
more—Landon Hinkle, juniors—
Chaz Love and Alan Wolfe. Sen-
ior—Daulton Banik along with Chaz
Love and senior—Lane Tokie are
leading the defense this season.
Junior high football had only one
team this year due to not enough 7th
graders to make a team so the players
moved up to the 8th grade team. The
Ceramics had a winning record of 6-
2 this fall. Two BIG wins against Tri
-Valley - who had been undefeated
and then finished the season beating
Sheridan! Congratulations!! Jr. High
Coaches are Casey Vallee, Ryan
Stalter, and Ron Childress
The future of Crooksville golf
is building a strong foundation at
the junior high level. The following
nine golfers had a
super successful sea-
son playing in 11
matches doubling
their matches from a
year ago; eighth grad-
ers—Curtis Crowder and Jarhett
Arnold, seventh graders—Owen
Carney, Blake White, Caden
Sparks, and Tanner Collins. Our
lady golfers are seventh graders—
Allison Baughman and Laken Tay-
lor along with fifth grader Riley
McKenzie. The golfers were
coached by volunteer, Brian Car-
ney.
Jr. High Cross Country runners
Kam Hunter and Haleigh Willison
both finished their seasons with
school records, 11:38 and 14:04
respectfully. Both girls and boys
teams performed well at the district
meet beating season long rivals
New Lexington. Next year Kam
Hunter, Noah
Chevalier, Preston
Zinn, Dakota
Wisecarver, and
Hunter Savage are
looking forward to making a big
impact on the high school team.
These talented young runners is
exactly what varsity needs to move
into a top two district team.
For the girls’ cross country
team, Haleigh Willison, Lelila Ken-
nedy, and Makalah Hashman are
looking forward to returning next
year and pursing a top three MVL
team finish. Cierra Ellis and Ash-
ley Carter are planning to run for
the high school next year providing
the girls with the needed five run-
ners to have a varsity team. Track
season is in the spring and the Ce-
ramic girls are looking forward to
meeting up with eighth grader Sa-
vannah Moorehead (Jr. high mile
record holder) for a dynamite 4x400
meter relay. Mr. Will Sheets is the
Jr. High Cross Country Coach.
Asst. Principal, John Gardner The middle school is off to a
great start. The eighth grade has been
welcomed back to the middle school
with open arms. The new eighth
grade team includes Ms. Tammy
White as our intervention specialist,
Ms. Nicole Dickerson teaching lan-
guage arts, Mr. Sean Hill teaching
science, and Mr. Adam Pontious and
Mr. Jordan Pompey team-teaching
math and social studies.
A group of eighth graders went
on a Gear Up field trip to the Ohio
Statehouse. These students were able
to speak with State Senators and
State Representatives during a ques-
tion and answer session.
The eighth grade also visited the
Mid-East Career and Technology
Center to explore different career
paths that are offered at the facility.
Seventh grade students in Ms.
Lauren Metcalf’s math and science
classes had the opportunity to learn
from an environmental group called
Rural Action. The group used an
earth ball to teach students the earth,
moon, and sun relationships and land
to water ratios on earth.
Sixth grade students have been
exploring the world of life science.
Mrs. Diana Davis’ science classes
have been learning about the struc-
tures of cells and their functions. The
sixth grade’s annual novel reading
challenge is off to a great start, they
have already read four novels.
The fifth grade team has a new
team-teaching arrangement. Mr.
Chad Trussell, Mrs. Terri Caton and
Mrs. Darla Sowers are team-teaching
in the same classroom while Mrs.
K-8 Middle School
K-8 Elementary School
Principal, John Toeller
The start to the 2015-16 school
year has been very smooth. The re-
turn of the fourth grade to an elemen-
tary setting seems to have been a
good decision. We would like to take
this opportunity to thank parents for
their patience as we work through the
changes that were made over the
summer.
As the weather changes, it be-
comes more important that parents
dress children with outside recess in

Smith team-teach in another class-
room. The new arrangement allows
for teachers to build a strong rapport
with their students and individualize
instruction to meet the needs of each
student.
Pictured above is Mrs. Michelle
Adams’ seventh grade math class
students finding out what it's like to
pay bills and budget through a per-
sonal finance project that will last all
year. Students are learning percent's
of a number through taxes, working
with integers in balancing a budget,
and various other skills that will pre-
pare them for the real world.

mind. We will be going outside in
cool weather. Please be sure your
child has a sweatshirt, coat etc. to
wear to recess. Please put their name
on their belongings as children some-
times leave coats outside.
Connection Reports were availa-
ble to parents at parent teacher con-
ferences. These reports will let you
know how your child is performing
on the various skills they have
worked on during the months of Au-
gust and September. Fourth and fifth
grade students will receive Connec-
tions this year.
Mrs. Chamberlin's fourth grade
students worked in teams to solve
scientific problems! Each day, they
continue to ask questions and search
for answers using the scientific meth-
od, every Friday in her class is
"Imagination Station.” Students en-
joy engaging activities in reading,
math, science, writing and design.
Students who Step Up to Blue,
by going above and beyond what’s
expected of them will be celebrated
each month during an assembly at-
tended by their peers and invited par-
ents. Step Up to Blue winners for
