Cristallo Innovation

Cristallo’s mission is to provide our clients with leading architectural systems that offer a solution for every eventuality and that are also innovative, energy efficient and environmentally sustainable.

Cristallo is a major force in the UK fenestration industry. We offer architects, contractors, developers, installers and clients a wide range of innovative profiles for curtain walling, doors, windows, facades and specialist applications. In short we have a product for every application.

Fenestration more than any other element of a building’s architecture will determine its character and complete the design. We must therefore compose these elements with care and consideration. It is here we define the buildings period with appropriate detail, and unify the overall design with correct proportion and scale.

At Cristallo we have passion for traditional architecture and detail, applying this to all our product design. When designing we consider window setbacks for depth and weather protection, discreet concealment of ventilation, equal glazing sight lines and well balanced section sizes.

All Cristallo Systems are manufactured in the UK and have a commitment to ongoing product development with a full complement of accreditations. Our partners have accreditations such as, ISO 9001 and IIP, Kitemark, Q-Mark, Secured By Design and Window Energy Rating (WER) approval, depending on the range.

Cristallo Timber has combined traditional styles with modern production techniques to produce a superior quality sliding sash window incorporating a tilt facility on both sashes for easy cleaning. The Cristallo Timber Sliding Sash range can now be supplied with up to a WER ‘A’ rating for energy efficiency. This range can reach as low as 1.4 W/m2K for thermal performance. This reduces the amount of energy used for heating, thus lessening the environmental impact. In addition the Cristallo Timber Sliding Sash range earns an A+ rating from the BRE Green Guide for environmental performance.

Visually co-ordinating with the doorframe and other Cristallo Timber window ranges, the Sliding Sash window is a popular choice where public planning requirements call for new windows to match local architectural style. The window incorporates a dual spring balance operating mechanism for ease of operation. This system requires less effort to lift the

sashes compared to other traditional cord or spiral balance systems.

Tests independently verified by the British Woodworking Federation assess the window as achieving compliance with British and European Standards.

As with all Cristallo Timber windows, the Sliding Sash range is manufactured and inspected to BS644:2012 under the strict guidelines set out by the British Woodworking Federation’s timber window accreditation scheme, which is now inspected under the BSI Kitemark scheme, ensuring that clients receive the best quality products and the highest levels of performance.

The Cristallo Side and Top Hung Casement range offers a tried and tested cost-effective window solution. Versatile in both style and appearance, the Cristallo Side and Top Hung range is suited to almost any development. This range can now be supplied with a WER ‘A’ Rating for energy efficiency, this reduces energy demand for heating, thus lessening the environmental impact.

In addition, the Cristallo Side and Top Hung Range earns an A+ Rating from the BRE Green Guide for environmental performance.

In order to improve the overall aesthetic quality, all main frame and sash components are now made from clear-faced laminated timber from sustainable sources. This offers enhanced strength and stability, as well as providing an environmentally friendly solution. Plant-on components such as sills, bay coupling posts and

head drips are manufactured using non-laminated European Redwood.

This enables us to offer extensive guarantees on the frame, paint system, glazing units and ironmongery, giving everyone - from the specifier to the end-user - total peace of mind. The Cristallo Side and Top Hung range is available fully finished in any of our standard paint and stain finishes. Frames are generally available in standard RAL colours except black.

Cristallo System 3

When it comes to selecting the right windows and doors for your commercial projects, you’ll want to strike the optimum balance between energy efficiency, acoustic, security, weather performance, durability, low maintenance, colour and great looks.Reliability is also important. Time is of the essence when it comes to managing large projects, with tight schedules at each stage. On time, in full deliveries and efficient installation are key criteria.

Cristallo System 3 ticks all the boxes and more, with a number of commercial partners repeatably specifying Cristallo System 3 for these reasons.

About Cristallo System 3 It fuses classic aesthetics with a twist of modern materials.

Contemporary flush exterior and stylish decorative interior creates that classic aesthetic. The twist is a modern composite material which lends itself to the sometimes frantic pace of modern living by being virtually maintenance free. It also has the added benefit of uniquely engineered ‘easy clean’ rebates which can be easily wiped clean meaning your windows remain looking their best with the minimum of effort.

A combination of design, innovation and technological advancement is how Cristallo System 3 outperforms many other systems. It can accommodate triple or double, highly efficient glazed units with market leading thermal and acoustic performance. It achieved one of the highest classifications on the British Standard weather test due to its robust design, and has the option of steel reinforcements (if required) to attain the best possible maximum sizes.

Proud to be designed and made in the UK. It was created with the enduring designs of British architecture in mind and has many bespoke options that can satisfy a range of homes.

Page 38: Cristallo - windows brochure (2016)

38

Performance

Cristallo System 3 has unquestionable market leading design features and performance. It achieves a certified window energy A+ rating and accommodates the most thermally and acoustically efficient 44mm triple glazing and 28mm double glazing, attaining U-values of 0.8 with triple glazing, PassivHaus Standard and 1.2 with double glazing, far surpassing the British Building Regulation requirements. All of this contributes to lower energy bills.

ChoiceWith over 40 colour combinations to choose from, your project can be personalised to complement the surroundings and enhance the building.

Eclectic Grey (RAL 7016) is a popular choice for many contemporary projects due to the Aluminium kerbside aesthetic.

A wide range of traditional and innovative colours in pastel shades and wood effect finishes are also available, including a choice of dual colours for a truly bespoke design.

39

The material of choice

Durable, sustainable and low maintenance PVC-U window and door installations account for 80% of the total market, making it the material of choice for most commercial projects. The reasons are clear. PVC-U is:

• Highly energy efficient

• Recyclable

• Sustainable

• Lightweight

• Low maintenance

• Durable & long lasting

• Does not corrode, rot, warp, peel or chip

Compared to other materials, PVC-U windows and doors have an average life of 35-50 years in normal urban environments, and in reality last a lot longer. The material does not require repainting and is easy to keep clean.

Manufacturing Techniques19th Century timber windows were hand crafted and in order to truly replicate the features of this window style, Cristallo System 3 combines the repeatability of modern machining processes with the eye of a craftsman. Cristallo System 3 windows and doors are hand finished and undeniably authentic with the stunning flush appearance, redefining modern windows and doors.

To fully embrace modern manufacturing there are two techniques of British craftsmanship offered.

The mechanical detail on the left shows how the joints butt together to replicate timber and on the right is the more modern alternative of welding, which fuses the joints diagonally. Both offer the same features and benefits, albeit with a differing finished appearance.

Design FeaturesGlass BondingCristallo System 3 windows and doors are predominantly glass bonded. The best windows in Europe are glass bonded and many of the World’s most famous modern skyscrapers utilise glass bonding technology. With the glass bonded to the sash and with the bead on the inside it contributes to high security performance.

Lock and Hinge RetentionCristallo System 3 is made to CEN A wall thickness. This is the highest classification in Europe. Together with intelligent design details and screw retention reinforcements, locks and hinges are secured firmly into position.

9 Chamber DesignCristallo System 3 is engineered to meet current and anticipated building regulations. Other window systems are typically 3 or 5 chambers and are usually 70mm wide, Cristallo System 3 has 9 chambers and is 100mm wide, resulting in superior thermal, acoustic, strength and security performances.

In many areas pultruded fibreglass technology has revolutionised and modernised product performance and design. Products such as cars and boats have benefitted from the strength, durability and lightweight pultruded fibreglass can bring. The construction industry has also seen the benefits that this modern material brings. Now, Cristallo brings the latest in a line of technologically advanced window products that can offer the very best in performance and super slim looks. Our pultruded fibreglass windows are manufactured in our specialised production facilities. Each window can be built to bespoke measurements to fit your needs. But this is more than just a standard window system. Pultruded fibreglass is designed to form complete facades, bringing light into your whole building.

Pultruded fibreglass is a material often associated with the marine industry. The ability to remain waterproof while being subjected to dynamic forces and pressures is also a requirement when designing facades. That is why we have designed the pultruded fibreglass system to bring together frame and glass to rebut the effects of the weather and give fantastic thermal performance. Typically pultruded fibreglass triple glazed windows will give a U value of 0.79W/m²k, one of the very best performance windows on the market today.

The strength of the materials means it is possible to offer super slim frame sections. This thin frame gives excellent sight lines and a very elegant appearance. The fact that fixed panes and opening windows have the same frame thickness gives the pleasing look that designers seek but seldom find.

If you wish to maximise light and minimise heat loss then pultruded fibreglass is the ideal solution. From standard window sizes to elegant facades pultruded fibreglass provides a modern and practical glazing system. So when you want the freedom to design, call us to discuss how this amazing product will enhance your project.
