Last Thursday 1/2F LOVED their fractions!! “LOLLY FRACTIONS – On Thursday last week we made lolly toothpicks to help us learn more about fractions. Last week 3/4D and 3/4W were learning about procedure writing. They followed the procedure of how to make a sock puppet then created and celebrated their sock puppets.

MACHINE MAKERS

Students in 1/2F have been learning about simple machines. They had a challenge to make a 'Dog Treat Machine' with objects from around their classroom. Students cooperated in small groups to build and then test their machines. It was hands on and a fun and practical way of learning about push and pull forces.

CHARLIZE FIRST TWO TREES PLANTED

Last week the Gardening Club, Mrs Rixon and Mr Rowe helped Charlize Arden put the first two of her trees in our playground. Charlize purchased these trees earlier this year with her Coastal Credit Union, CHPS P&C grant funding. On a bed of mulch and nutrients the avocado and mango trees were planted in a spot that is both in plenty of sun and protected from the wind by our school hall. Well done Charlize, can't wait to try this healthy fruit when it arrives on these trees.

SPECIAL THANKS TO OUR PARENTS

We would like to thank our parents for helping to keep our staff and each other safe during this time. With our school normally being a hive of activity with volunteer programs, people picking up and dropping off students and our canteen parents preparing and serving we are missing all this extra support in and around our school. However, we appreciate the flexibility our community is showing by keeping their distance and ensuring that our school remains a safe place to work. We look forward to the time when it is once again safe to open our doors to everyone.

ASSEMBLY RETURNS WITH A ZOOM!

Last Friday afternoon we held our first assembly since returning to full time, face to face learning. But, instead of all students and teachers gathering together in our hall we used the Zoom platform to broadcast our assembly throughout the school. Mrs Munday's room was transformed into a makeshift television studio where the senior students ran through the program. Each classroom had their own cameras and were able to cross in when they handed out awards or added content. Congratulations to all award winners and well done to Year 6 for managing this new format so professionally.

QUEST LEADERS BEGIN THEIR DUTIES

Under the leadership of school captain Chace Bryant the Year 6 students started their first Quest roster last week. The students led their younger peers through ball games, tips and skipping and gave our students a place to go in the playground where all were welcome and supported. The students also ran the help desk and provided guidance and support for younger students at the Help Desk. Well done to our Quest Leaders for getting this off the ground in the middle of the year.

FRONT OF THE SCHOOL GETS SOME MUCH NEEDED TLC

Our temporary General Assistant Mr Rowe has wasted no time in getting to work doing some much needed repairs to the gardens in the front of the school. Last week he was able to extend the retaining wall across the front of the school and feed and seed the lawns around our newly uncovered steps and pathway.

CHPS SCHOOL UNIFORM POLICY

Wearing our uniform promotes a sense of belonging for students and creates a positive identity for the school community.

The NSW Department of Education strongly encourages the wearing of school uniform in all state public schools. The Crescent Head Public School P&C and all staff at the school support this view.

Crescent Head Public School colours are Royal Blue and Yellow. These colours depict the ocean, sun and sand of Crescent Head. Please help us maintain our pride in our school and our uniform by observing our uniform policy. Should you need to add additional layers we ask that they please be in our school colours.

STUDENTS NOT TO BE ON SITE BEFORE 8.30AM

PLEASE NOTE: We wish to remind parents and carers that students who are not using the OOSH service at CHPS should NOT be at school before 8.30am. Please don’t assume that because a car is in the car park that a teacher is available to supervise students prior to 8.30am as student supervision does not commence until 8.30am. We appreciate your understanding and cooperation with this matter. MOBILE PHONES AT SCHOOL

We have found an increase in the number of students who are bringing mobile devices to school. Mobile phones owned by students at CHPS are considered valuable items and are brought to school at the owner’s (student’s or parent/carer’s) risk.

Students are encouraged not to bring a mobile phone to school unless there is a compelling reason to do so. We understand that students may need to communicate with their family due to travel and afternoon commitments and therefore we request that those students hand their mobile phone into the school administration office to be stored securely.

PLEASE INFORM OF COVID TESTING

We ask parents/carers of students who are or who have been unwell to please inform the school if your child has been tested for covid-19 and the results. It is a requirement of all schools to record this information.

MUSICA VIVA RETURNS IN WEEK 9

Great news! TAIKOZ IS COMING TO OUR SCREENS THE ART OF JAPANESE DRUMMING

In constant demand all over the world, Taikoz bring their dynamic and heart-stopping traditional Japanese taiko drumming to Australian schools, demonstrating how this incredible art form is made relevant to Australia today. Taikoz shows are so engrossing because they are seen, heard and felt: students literally become sounding boards, vibrating along with the explosive energy coming from the stage – a stage some will even find themselves sharing with these masters of rhythm.

Mrs. Maynard has been negotiating with the Musica Viva team and these amazing performers will be presenting exclusively to our school in a 60 minute live and interactive concert via Webinar on Wednesday 24th June at 10am. The cost per student is $5. We are excited to present this as an online performance where students will still be involved with the performers! Please return note and payment of $5 per student to secure your seat!

SCHOOL CONTRIBUTION FEE

All families are asked to contribute to the cost of supplying students with all the learning materials provided by the school. The cost of resources used every day in the classrooms, including books, pencils, pens, paper, art supplies, craft supplies, printer ink, readers etc…. is ever increasing.

The P&C has endorsed contribution amount at: • $49 per student • $120 for 3 students or more

This school contribution can be made at the school office at any time or using the Parent Online Payment (POP) from the CHPS website. This will greatly assist the school in off-setting the cost of providing equitable new and quality resources and materials for all students in our school.

SCHOOLSTREAM REMINDER

We wish to remind parents and carers of the importance of staying informed by adding the Schoolstream app to your device. All updates and important information regarding CHPS activities and alerts will be sent via this app. Be sure not to miss out!! You can find Schoolstream via the App Store or Google Play by searching for Schoolstream and typing in Crescent Head Public School when prompted.

This is an essential communication tool with our parent body and we hope many families are proactive with this reminder.

PLEASE LABEL JACKETS

As the cooler weather is now here and students are wearing their CHPS jackets to school, we ask that parents and carers check that jackets are clearly labelled with student’s name and that the jacket they have doesn’t belong to another student.
