Every situation is unique, but Bloomberg’s discovery process is designed to help you leverage your overall desktop, information and technology spend to produce benefits across your organization. Our product, desktop, application and data specialists work closely with you to understand your needs and design an appropriate solution following a clear and structured approach.

SiTuaTiOnManagement at a leading bank instituted a cost-reduction campaign across the organization. Based on spend, the Market Data department was the first target for this exercise. The bank was using more than 40 suppliers in this space, both major vendors and niche dataset providers. The client’s initial goal was to reduce overall data costs, integrate real-time data feeds with internal systems and processes, and improve data distribution. The high-level challenge was to establish a broader relationship between Bloomberg and the bank. On a more granular level, there was a need to replicate hundreds of spreadsheets for thousands of tickers and create and populate new datasets for missing data.

PrOcESSIn the initial meeting, the Bloomberg team and the bank’s Head of Market Data discussed possible cost savings and benefits. Bloomberg next conducted a 30-day discovery exercise to gain a deeper understanding of the client’s business and infrastructure, identify goals and objectives, and design a proposed solution with a detailed implementation road map.

SOluTiOnWhat quickly became clear was that there were several areas where Bloomberg products and services could help achieve particularly significant cost savings and process enhancements. redundant services were cancelled. We converted hundreds of spreadsheets to Bloomberg and added more than 4,000 new tickers. The bank’s users were trained on API, Launchpad, News and all related functions. The dedicated Bloomberg team also developed functionality based on custom bank requirements.

SiTuaTiOnA prominent institutional asset management firm needed a single platform for accessing in-house and external research, as well as content, for 20 regional offices. The client was looking to track and measure analyst trade ideas objectively and quickly identify top performers. The client also wanted to address a lack of customization and scalability resulting from the combination of multiple external vendor and internal systems. An ancillary goal was to gain the ability to create management reports to understand consumption, production, value of research and performance of the firm’s analysts.

PrOcESSA series of meetings between Bloomberg and key members of the client’s team were held to gain a deeper understanding of the firm’s infrastructure, priorities and needs. The Bloomberg team proposed a detailed project plan and established joint criteria for success. With the assistance of the relevant specialists, Bloomberg focused on technical and functional issues, identifying any perceived hurdles (migration, performance, etc.). The proposed plan included benefits, costs, roles and responsibilities, and a complete requirements analysis.

SOluTiOn Bloomberg developed a scalable product by consolidating Bloomberg research and publishing across regions; this capability was offered on the Bloomberg terminal, thus eliminating additional costs. The team also designed a platform to manage internal and external research ideas, making this information available on mobile devices. The plan provided alpha capture by building trade idea messaging (TMSG <GO>) to track trade ideas. A custom report to evaluate analysts was also developed. To track analyst alpha generation via customized calculations, Bloomberg developed and built 25 “idea networks,” including a management dashboard to track ideas and performance.
