The highlight of the program is the JOYA Barcelona Art Jewellery Fair, which together with Espaijoia forms the Barcelona Jewellery Week. In its 9th year this Fair prom-ises an impressive array of national and international art-ists, galleries, schools, collectives, conferences and paral-lel events in the city of Barcelona.

Artist, historian, author,

advisor, co-founder of jewellery associations and curator Benjamin

Lignel, will guide you through Medusa, at the Museum of

Modern Art Paris. Responsible for a variety of exhibitions of French

contemporary jewellery that toured internationally, Ben also co-founded La Garantie, Association Pour Le Bijou, an association with a mission to study and promote

jewellery.

Artist, art historian, author, editor co-founder of jewellery

associations and curator Benjamin Lignel will guide you

through this exhibition on which he worked as scientific

advisor to the Musée d’Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris.

He has previously been responsible for an exhibition of

French contemporary jewellery that traveled seven cities,

organised Différence et Répétition and led a research-by-

exhibition project shown in Norway and France. In 2007,

he co-founded La Garantie, Association Pour Le Bijou, a

French association with a mission to study and promote

jewellery.

After a 15-year career in finance and banking, Isabel

retrained in order to pursue her true passions. In 2008 she

obtained an HND in jewellery followed by a Research MA in

2010, both from the Sir John Cass Department of Art, Media

and Design (London Metropolitan University).

She is a member of Dialogue Collective (London-based

jewellers and silversmiths group), the Contemporary

Applied Arts group, and collaborates with French

contemporary jewellery association, La Garantie. She

spends her time creating original jewellery and exhibiting

internationally.

Day 04: History, Trendsetters & Mold-breakersThough an ancient and universal form of human expres-sion, jewellery is often considered unworthy as an art-form, linked as it is to fashion and adornment. Thanks to avant-garde artists and contemporary designers jewellery has been reinvented. Come to understand the historical and social context of jewellery as an artform.

The MEDUSA exhibition questions traditional art bound-aries around issues of decoration and ornament, through addressing negative preconceptions and deconstructing them to reveal jewellery’s underlying subversive and per-formative potential. This exhibition brings together over 400 pieces of jewellery created by artists, avant-garde, contemporary, high end and anonymous jewellers, in-cluding prehistoric and medieval works, punk, rappers’ and costume jewellery.

Day 05: Meet the hands behind the brands To be a great designer you need to understand the con-text of your industry, both in your own city and interna-tionally. This practical day combines artistry with a va-riety of communication and promotional approaches to business.

Galerie Elsa Vannier is one of the most well known con-temporary galleries in Paris, and here we will meet with artist Agathe St. Giron. She has been making jewellery for 25 years.

Ateliers Art de France Empreintes is a concept store home to the best French Applied Art objects ( jewellery, ceramic, glass etc), and is the main French body promot-ing craft.

The Tzuri Gueta Showroom is a testament to the success of the artist, so rare in contemporary jewellery. He will guide us through his process as a talented artist and busi-nessman. His stunning work has been featured in fashion blogs, magazines and TV programs.
