Welcome Everyone No matter what your past or present status is in the Catholic Church, your current family or marital status, your past or current religious affiliation, your personal history, age, background or ethnicity, you are invited, accepted and most welcome at St. Ferdinand Parish. We hope Christ will bring fullness into your life, and that we provide you with information and spiritual support. How God Intends Us to Live Today’s readings are again directed to believers, communities of faith. As in last week’s reading, Amos confronts us with a condemnation of those whose lives are focused on pleasure and self- absorption. The psalm contrasts that focus with the Lord’s—justice for the oppressed; food the hungry; freedom for captives; sight to the blind; raising of those who are bowed down; loving the just; protecting strangers, orphans, and the widow; and by doing so, thwarting the way of the wicked. Timothy urges the pursuit of righteousness, devotion, faith, love, patience, and gentleness. Luke tells the familiar tale of the wealthy man and the poor beggar at his doorstep, who experience life very differently in this world and in the next. We are once again being given clear indications about how God intends for us to live our lives. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

How God Intends Us to Live Today’s readings are again

directed to believers, communities of faith. As in last week’s reading, Amos confronts us with a condemnation of those whose lives are focused on pleasure and self-absorption. S. Paluch Co.

Wedding Prayers

Parish Mission Saint Ferdinand Catholic Church is a large, vibrant parish that has a tradition of serving God’s people with the warmth of a small parish. Inspired by the Holy Spirit, we prayerfully seek to serve God by the way we worship, celebrate the sacraments, witness the Gospel, and serve one another. We are committed to live our Christian life as a community of hospitality, spiritual enrichment, and service through works of compassion, mercy, and evangelization. We are called to proclaim, teach and model the good news of Jesus Christ. We pledge our time, talent, and treasures for the fulfillment of our parish mission.

Born to Eternal Life Please pray for the deceased members of St. Ferdinand Parish.

May their souls and the souls of all the faithfully departed, through the mercy of God, continue their

journey to eternal life in the heavenly kingdom. Amen.

And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

NEW! Scripture Study with our Priests Please join us on the first Monday, each month, at

7:00 pm in church for Scripture studies with our priests. One of our priests will lead a scripture study that will take us a little deeper into the Sunday Gospel. Discover the beauty of scripture and grow in your relationship with Christ as our priests explain, discuss, and answer questions about the week’s Gospel. All are welcome no matter where you are in your faith journey and regardless of your previous scripture study experience. This study will begin on October 7 with Father Gallagher.

Women Gathered

Women Gathered has been in existence for over 25 years. Over the years Women Gathered has been privileged to minister to many women from our parish and beyond. We

have no specific age group, and all are welcome. Many women have been in the group for 15 years. There are about 52 women in all. The morning group meets from 9:30-11:00 am and the evening group meets from 7:30- 9:00 pm.

Over the years we have studied scripture, the beatitudes, the Gospels and more. At times we have used books as a source of discussion and reflection. Last year we focused on the gift of compassion. From September until December this year we will learn about, reflect upon, and pray with women such as Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton, Lydia and Priscilla, Immaculee and many more remarkable women of faith, as our goal remains to come closer to God every day. We have prayer, open discussion, teaching, and reflection each week. The women are awesome and support each other in prayer and kindness. We hold sacred everyone’s privacy as we share from our hearts so no one repeats what people share outside of our room in a way that would harm that trust. Many women cannot make a weekly commitment for a year, and we all understand, so if you miss a week or a month and come back you will feel right at home again. The women are remarkable. If you wish to “come and see” that would be great; we understand. Please feel free to call Barb Mccarthy at 724.312.4370 or email at [email protected] if you have any questions.

Book Circle The St. Ferdinand Book Circle meets on the third Wednesday of each month at 1:00 pm in the Holy Family Room. Please join us October 16 to discuss Still Alice by

Lisa Genova. We always have a relaxing and enjoyable time discussing great books! Please email Kathy at [email protected] or call 724.776.1357.
