face paint

Face and body paint are an important part of the Aboriginal culture. The style of the painting is very specific to the family group, the tribe, the status within the tribe and even can reflect their location, their ancestors and more. The painting is often done as part of a ceremony which also includes storytelling, singing and dancing.

Australian aboriginals also embellish themselves with ornaments such as necklaces made out of feathers, bones, teeth, and shells.

Aboriginal Kangaroo PaintingThe kangaroo is probably Australia’s most well-known marsupial. A newborn will stay in its mother’s pouch for four months. When frightened, a young kangaroo will even hop back into the pouch for protection. The Aboriginals often paint kangaroos and other animals. For thousands of years, these artists have used a basic set of symbols, such as dots, concentric circles and curved and straight lines.

MAKE YOUR OWNBARRIER REEF FISH

The Great Barrier Reef

Australia’s Great Barrier Reef is the largest coral reef in the world and has the most diverse range of underwater animals anywhere. Despite looking like plants, corals are actually colonies of tiny animals that live together and make up an underwater habitat. The reef is home to creatures as small as microscopic plankton to massive whales weighing over a hundred tons.

People from all over the world come the Great Barrier Reef to scuba dive and snorkell.
