CPS Quickstart

Opening CPS:

1. Open CPS from your desktop icon. 2. Click on File from the menu bar. 3. Click Open Database… 4. Navigate to your H: CPS > subject database (ex: if you teach

Add Students to Class

1. Click on the class you created, then from the Home side click on New A Pop-Up menu will appear. Select Student.

7. Click the OK button to save your new lesson information. Or click Cancel to return to the Lesson tab without saving any data.

B. Creating FastGrade Lessons FastGrade is used when the students have a hardcopy of a worksheet or test. The questions will not appear

on the screen. This method can be delivered without a projector. 1. Click on the Prepare>Lessons and Assessments tab. 2. Select the database under which you want to create a FastGrade lesson.

3. Click New in the Home group. A menu appears. 4. Select the FastGrade menu item. Type the name for your FastGrade lesson in the Title box and click

OK. 5. The FastGrade window will appear showing the following features:

• Title: The name you typed in the CPS Lesson Attributes window • Number of questions in this Lesson: The number of questions you have successfully added to the

FastGrade answer key. • Properties: Opens the CPS Lesson Attributes window. • Question Type columns: Question types in individual columns enable you to add various question

types to the FastGrade answer key. • Standards associated with the current question: Standards in the open database appear so that

you can associate them with each question if you like. • Current Question #: The question number you are currently working on. This number is always on

one more than the Number of questions in this Lesson. • Previous: Moves to the previous question in your FastGrade answer key. This action highlights the

previous question’s type and correct answer as well as displaying the number position of this question as the Current Question #.

• Rubric: Allows you to associate a rubric with a question. • Add: Allows you to add a numeric question. • Other: Allow you to create “placeholder” questions for essays, short answer, etc.)

6. Click the blue answer button that corresponds with the question type and correct answer for each question.

7. Repeat Step 6 until you’ve entered every question into the CPS FastGrade Window.

8. Click OK. The Prepare>Lessons and Assessments tab appears with the FastGrade lesson name in the lesson side of the window.

Creating Lesson Questions A. Create Lesson Questions

• These are the questions on the assignment.

1. Click on the Prepare>Lessons and Assessment tab.

2. Highlight the lesson, from the lesson side (left window) of the screen, you want to include the question

in. The question side of the screen will be empty if you have not previously added any questions.

3. Click New in the Home group. 4. Select the Question menu item. The CPS

Question Author window appears.

5. Click Template in the Format group. Select the template style you want to apply to the question. You may select: Chalkboard, no graphics, add graphics.

6. Click the blue arrow in the drop-down box in the Format group . A list of question templates appears. These question templates are associated with the template style you selected in step 5.

7. Type the question in the question box of the question template you selected.

8. Type the answers in the answer boxes of the question template you selected.

9. Select the correct answer by clicking in the checkbox beside the answer, so that a checkmark appears.

10. Click Save to save the question. 11. Repeat steps 5-10 to add additional questions to the lesson. 12. When you finish adding questions, click Close. All questions appear in the question side of the

Prepare>Lessons and Assessments tab.

B. Create Lesson Questions with Graphics You can add .jpg, .gif, or .bmp graphics files to questions. 1. Open the Prepare>Lessons and Assessments tab. 2. Click on the lesson name you want to include a question with graphics to.

3. Click New . Choose Question from the menu item.

4. Click Template . A pop-up menu appears. 5. Click Add graphics, and select the graphic style. 6. Right-click inside the graphic area. A shortcut menu appears. 7. Click the Browse command. The Set Image File window opens. 8. Use the Look in drop-down list at the top of the dialog box to browse to the directory where you saved

your graphic files. 9. Highlight a graphic file that you want to display in this graphic area. 10. Click the Open button. The graphic appears in the graphic area of the question or answer option you

selected.

11. Click Save to associate the graphic with this question.

12. Click Close to return to the Prepare>Lessons and Assessments tab. C. Using with ExamView *Note: ExamView Tests cannot be modified in CPS. They must be modified and saved prior to using with

CPS.

1. Click on the Prepare>Lessons and Assessments tab. 2. Click on the folder, in the lesson side, you want to import an ExamView lesson into. 3. Click on the blue drop-down arrow next to Add File in the Lessons group. Choose

ExamView file from the menu list. 4. This is a list of the pre-created ExamView tests provided by the textbook adoptions.

If you have modified and saved these tests elsewhere, then navigate to that location to choose the test desired.

Connect the Receiver Unit and Test the Pads

1. Connect the receiver unit to a USB port on the front of your computer.

2. Click the Settings menu item, and select Delivery Options . . . command. The CPS Delivery Options window appears.

3. Click the Receiver tab and then click the Detect CPS Receiver button. CPS will locate an available COM port. If you have any questions, refer to the “Test Response Pads” section of the Help file.

Engage Lessons *CPS offers three modes of delivery all accessed through the Engage Lesson(s) icon.

1. Click on Engage>Lessons and Assessments tab. 2. Choose the database that has the questions you want to deliver.

3. Select in which mode you want to deliver the lesson: • Standard Mode – Allows Teacher to control the pace through the questions • Student Paced Assessment – Student can control the pace. Used with FastGrade lessons • Teacher-Led Assessment – Used with multiple versions of a test. A teacher-led session conducted at

the student’s pace • Student Practice – Similar to Student Managed Assessment, but only a correctly answered question

moves the student onto the next unanswered question. 4. Select a Class from the drop-down list. 5. Click Engage. 6. Click the Start button in the lower right corner of the Session Setup dialog box. Depending on the mode

you have chosen, you will see the following windows.
