IntroductionThe purpose of this lab is to teach students how to measure different types of weather. Volunteers will help students make devises to measure wind speed and rain. Once these devises are made, the volunteers will teach the students how to use and read them.
Procedure
Anemometer: (Picture below) – 1 Anemometer for every 2 students1. Tape the 2 Dixie Cups to either side of the paper rectangle.2. Repeat this step with the other two Dixie Cups and the other paper rectangle.3. Tape the paper rectangle such that they are making an X. 4. Poke a pin through the middle of the X and through the eraser. 5. Once the anemometer is finished, have students blow into the cups so that
they can see how it works. 6. Have the students take their anemometers outside if time and the teacher
allows.

Rain Gauge: (Pictured below)1. Have the students make the inch lines on the masking tape on the bottle. 2. Place the clear packing tape over the masking tape ruler to protect it from
the rain. 3. Place rocks or marbles at the bottom of the plastic bottle to help weigh it
down.4. Fill the bottle with water until it reaches the first mark on the ruler.5. Put the top of the bottle inside the bottom upside down and tape it together.6. If the teacher, time, and weather allows, have each group place their rain
gauges outside. If not, volunteers can remind the students of the water cycle (Use a very basic description of the water cycle: water is evaporated from the ground to the clouds, then the clouds release the water and make rain.)
