COVID-19 has been declared as a global pandemic by
World Health Organization (WHO) and identified as a
‘Notified Disaster’ by Ministry of Home Affairs. COVID-
19 has severely disrupted lives and economies across
the globe. This has tested public health preparedness to
the optimum level even in developed countries who are
still struggling to deal with the situation.
Government of India has announced a “lockdown”
across the country for 21 days and advised citizens to
maintain “social distancing” to check spread of the
disease. With economic activities under suspension,

humanitarian challenge is unfolding day by day. People
at the bottom of the pyramid, especially, the migrant
workers in the cities, factory workers, daily wage
earners, farm laborers, etc. are the worst affected and
struggling to arrange daily essentials such as food and
medicine.
CII is extending all possible support to the affected
people during times of such crisis. The Relief and
Rehabilitation Interventions of CII include awareness
building regarding the best hygiene practices,
importance of handwashing and social distancing, and
