Page 1: Cover Letter - Dear Potential Explorer

Dear Potential Explorer, I want to take a moment and introduce myself and to you and talk with you about your company and becoming a part of your team. My name is Eric Shurtliff and I have been in the Ultrasonic Precision Cleaning and Ultrasonic Welding industries most of my entire working career of 34 years. I have made significant contributions and innovations to the precision cleaning industry over my tenure, which has shaped the industry to what it is today. I have also been credited with numerous United States and International Patents and Awards. I have attached my resume for your review. Here are only a few of many of my innovations and contributions to our industry.

1) Complacence of “Fluorocarbon Reduction Act”: Responsible for equipment and aqueous chemical process development to comply with the elimination of Fluorocarbons Mandate Globally. Converted Seagate Technology Reported directly to Mr. Alan Shugart, Conner Peripherals reported directly to Mr. Finis Conner, Maxtor, Western Digital and IBM. Developed all equipment design, manufacturing and cleaning processes to comply with the mandate, significantly under budget and on time.

2) Conceptualized, designed and implemented “Laminar Flow Cleaning Technology” for SpeedFam-IPEC. Became the Global standard for several Disc Drive and Semiconductor companies.

3) Conceptualized, developed and implemented Scrub Under Immersion with Ultrasonic technology. Numerous patents issued for this technology.

4) Conceptualized, developed and implemented modular cleaning station technology. The ability to take a cleaning line and reconfigure entire stations simply by sliding out one module and replacing it with another including automation.

5) Conceptualized, developed and implemented PVA cleaning brushes for multiple disc cleaning. They became IBM and Conner Peripherals standard. The PVA Brush utilized actual mechanical cleaning functions within its design.

6) Conceptualized, developed and integrated the “Capella” cleaning module, which was the first if its kind. This was a Semiconductor CMP tool “Auriga”, which we designed and intergraded a cleaning tool directly into the process with automation. With this new process and technology, we significantly improved yield and eliminated rejections due to dried slurry, etc. Can explain further at interview.

My family experienced a life altering event, which took place in 2004. During another standard 3 week sales meeting tour in Asia. Half way through my trip, I was notified my son (21 years old) was involved in a fatal accident. My family and I decided it was best for the family for me to semi-retire from the industry for a while and find another career I enjoyed, but did not require travel and I was home every evening, which I did. I went to work for Mercedes-Benz and experienced an extremely successful and fulfilling career for the past 14 years.

We have recently relocated from Scottsdale, Arizona to Austin, Texas to support my wife’s career advancement. I have been missing the cleaning industry for several years. We have decided it’s time for me to once again get back into the industry, which has become such a part of me and I love some much.

The purpose of this memo is to express my desire to join your team at some capacity, whether it’s in Product Development, Project Management to Sales & Marketing. I would love the opportunity to discuss this matter with you in greater detail. Please contact me and we can discuss the best way to proceed.

Sincerely,

Eric Shurtliff
