Ch1: Introduction to Entrepreneurship

This chapter’s content relates to the decision to become an

entrepreneur. It introduces the student to the nature,

process/steps,effects, and myths of entrepreneurship. In addition it

discusses the characteristics of successful entrepreneurs and the

reasons why they become entrepreneurs.

Ch2: Recognizing Opportunities and Generating Ideas

This chapter’s content relates to the second step in the

entrepreneurial process (i.e. developing successful business idea). The

chapter presents the following topics: the concepts of opportunity and

ideas and the difference between them, approaches used to identify

opportunities, entrepreneur characteristics that improve the ability to

identify opportunities, techniques used to generate ideas and actions

taken to encourage the development of new ideas in established

firms.

Ch3: Feasibility Analysis This chapter’s content relates to the second step in the entrepreneurial process (i.e. developing successful business idea). The chapter presents the following topics: the nature and importance of feasibility analysis, the four parts/sections of feasibility analysis.

Ch4: Developing an Effective Business Model

This chapter’s content relates to the second step in the entrepreneurial process (i.e. developing successful business idea). The chapter presents the following topics: the nature and importance of business models, the two general types of business models, and the components of the Barringer/Ireland business model template used by entrepreneurs to develop business models

Ch5: Industry and Competitor Analysis

This chapter’s content relates to the second step in the entrepreneurial process (i.e. developing successful business idea). The chapter presents the following topics: industry analysis and its purpose, the five competitive forces that determine industry profitability, the five primary industry types and the opportunities they offer, and the purpose of a competitor analysis.

This chapter’s content relates to the second step in the entrepreneurial process (i.e. developing successful business idea). The chapter presents the following topics: the purpose of a business plan,

process (i.e. moving from an idea to an entrepreneurial firm). The

chapter presents the following topics: liability of newness, new

venture team and its primary elements, the role of each element in

the new venture team.

Ch10: Getting Financing or Funding

This chapter’s content relates to the third step in the entrepreneurial

process (i.e. moving from an idea to an entrepreneurial firm). The

chapter presents the following topics: the importance of financing for

new businesses, reasons why financing is needed during early stages,

sources of personal financing, steps followed when preparing to raise

debt and equity financing, sources of equity funding, sources of debt

funding, creative sources of financing.

Description

Attendance policies:

Students are not allowed to miss more than 15% of the classes during the semester. Failing to meet this requirement will be dealt with according to the university disciplinary rules.

Absences from exams and handing in assignments on time:

Any student who misses an exam and has a valid excuse

for being absent from the exam will be given an

opportunity to attend a makeup exam (excuses must be

validated by the dean’s assistant for student affairs)
