Course book evaluation reflection:
This was our third evaluation, equivalent to 25% of the final grade. We
were ordered to evaluate a given textbook by the teacher, and it was evaluated
according to the following areas factual information, topics, methodology, the
language, and skills.
The main objective of this evaluation was to assess the effectiveness of the
texts provided by the ministry or whether schools should require parents to
buy other textbooks. In pairs, we evaluated whether the topics agreed with the
appropriate vocabulary to the required level. And we realized that books were
approaching the reality of students, contextualizing the issues of everyday life.
The book contained many '' grammar chart '' that provided with easy to
understand explanations for the students. I think that teachers should use those
resources, and emphasize them in class, in that way learners will see these
tables as ''extra help ''. The book had plenty of pictures of famous people,
recognizable to students, with the goal of students use these examples in
exercises, activities and produce the language. I believe that the book was
appropriate for the ages of 9 to 10 years, and it was adapted to the needs of
students. Also, this had a lot of activities for the development of English as a
Foreign Language. I think that the development of the skills were included,
teaching models were identified, we analyze the structure of the text, its
organization, the instructions were clearly expressed, and the language was
clear and progressive. Definitely, the analysis of the book was crucial to know
part of the work of a teacher; I think this assessment contributes to my life as a
student and as a future teacher. Through a thorough analysis a person can
collect a lot of data that contribute to the learning of English as a foreign
language.
