Calderglen Zoo talk and tourWe offer two different animal activities: an animal encounter or a feeding tour.

Animal encounter: involves the group getting to meet some animals such as snakes and lizards up close. The animal keeper will tell the group all about the animals. The animal encounter takes place inside the conservatory so weather does not affect it. Animal encounters and feeding tours are specifically for organised groups, nurseries and schools. Suitable for ages 5+. 40–60 min. Weekdays only. Minimum of 10, maximum of 30.

Feeding tour: involves the group getting to watch animals such as the coatis, meerkats, guinea pigs and rabbits being fed. The animal keeper feeding them will also tell the group all about the animals. The feeding tour takes place in the outside zoo area so groups should wear weather appropriate clothing. Animal encounters and feeding tours are specifically for organised groups, nurseries and schools. Suitable for ages 7+. 30–40 min. Weekdays only. Minimum of 10, maximum of 25.

CostsAll talks and tours need to be booked in advance and have a one off payment which includes entry fees for all adults and children to the Conservatory and Zoo.Maximum group size for all talks and tours is 25, minimum group size is 10. £31.85

Children’s activities in South Lanarkshire Cultural activities in South Lanarkshire

Experience what it is like to be a zoo keeper. Show off your true zoo keeper skills by feeding our animals including the foxes, meerkats, owls, monkeys, coatis, kookaburras and guinea pigs and rabbits. You can also handle a variety of animals including creepy crawlies, rats, a lizard and snake. If there is time, you may even be able to make some food toys for the animals. Available for 7–14 year oldsMorning sessions 11am – 1pm, afternoon sessions (April to October only) 2pm – 4pm. Two adult admissions are included in the Little Zoo Keeper package. Only available on weekdays.

Feeding Tour (Weekdays only)

This keeper-led tour focuses on a few of our visitors’ favourite animals here at Calderglen Zoo. Watch and learn from our zoo keepers feeding the animals including the coatis, meerkats, guinea pigs and rabbits. Feeding tours are educational and specifically for organised groups. Wake up the zoo animals with their favourite treats. Participants will get to feed the coatis, meerkats, kookaburras, owls, guinea pigs, rabbits, Scottish wildcats, polecats, and monkeys. Suitable for ages 7+

Ultra RunChatelherault Country ParkSaturday 2 November 2019 – 9amOur first ever Ultra Run will take place at Chatelherault Country Park on Saturday 2 November 2019. This event is suitable for experienced and novice ultra runners. The race is six hours long and organised so you run in daylight until the final 45 minutes. Santa comes to Chatelherault!Chatelherault Country ParkSaturday 1 December from 12pm to 4pm and then every weekend in December from 7 December to 22 December as well as Monday 23 December from 10.30am to 4.30pm.You can also see Santa on Christmas Eve from 10.30am to 2.30pm

Santa’s moved into Chatelherault for the whole of December! Take a walk through Rudolph’s stable and prepare your letter to Santa with all of your Christmas wishes before visiting Santa himself in his magical log cabin. You’ll even get an early Christmas present from Santa too!

The entrance to the country park is within the village of Ferniegair, 2.5 km south east of Hamilton on the A72 Hamilton, Larkhall / Lanark, Clyde Valley tourist route. The park is also accessible by train with daily half hour service stopping at Chatelherault Station on the Hamilton, Larkhall line.
