Country Music, Baybee!!! Statingtheobvioustobesure,butthereisnoshortageof distraction in Las Vegas. The last Southwest flight out ofNashvilleSundaynightwasaboisterouswho’swhoofartistsandindustrytypesboundforaperpetualparty.And despite the flashing lights, crowded gaming tables and overflowing MGM Grand watering holes that greeted them, the country crowd is never more than one song, one voice away from being reminded why we’re all here. Such was the case Monday morning as Warner. Bros.’ Joanna Cotten stood before some of Country radio’s highest profile decision makers and introduced herself. Opening the Albright & O’Malley radio seminar with video of a bluesy live club performance, the Memphis-native then took the stage with piano accompaniment and unfurled a soulful, expansive and dynamic voice while singing her ballad “Keep The Faith.” The goose bumps and thestandingovationlastedwellpastthesong’sconclusion,and the title offered a mantra for the week. Whatever the concerns of this business and no matter how many “country friendly” celebrities cross the ACM stage tomorrow night (5/15), the fortunes of this show, this format and this industry ultimately rest on the music. Thank goodness.
