Description

A boat cruise along the waters surrounding Helsinki, discovering a present influenced by a fascinating and well-preserved history.

What we will see

Helsinki: Parliament, National Museum, Opera, Olympic Stadium, Finlandia Hall

Porvoo: tour of the medieval centre

Helsinki: Senate Square, buildings of historical interest, Uspenski Orthodox Cathedral

What we will do

After setting off from Helsinki port, we will pass a series of monuments of national historical interest: the Parliament, the

National Museum, the Opera, the Olympic Stadium, built in 1952, and the Finlandia Hall, a unique conference and events

centre designed by the famous architect Alvar Aalto, who was also responsible for the church in Riola di Vergato (Bologna) in

the 1970s

We will admire the beautiful Finnish countryside en route to the ancient town of Porvoo, following a panoramic road along the

coast.

Porvoo is the second oldest town in Finland and is a gem of Finnish architectural history, particularly in the residential area of

Old Porvoo, a picturesque neighbourhood built on a hill near the Porvoonjoki River. The houses were built in keeping with

medieval ideas about urban planning and represent the harmonious coexistence of old and new. Porvoo's symbol is its

charming red houses built on the river bank; they were once warehouses where goods, products and exotic delicacies from

distant lands were kept.

We will take a stroll through the historic centre, full of shops selling local delicacies and handicrafts. For example, the depots

near the former station are home to a shop that is impossible to leave empty handed: gifts, souvenirs, local handicrafts,

organic food and cakes, all top-quality, so much so that it is considered by many to be a tourist attraction in its own right!

We will leave Porvoo to travel back to Helsinki through the countryside.

We will stop in Senate Square, home to the white Lutheran Cathedral, the University and the Palace of the Council of State,

which contains the Government and the Office of the Prime Minister of Finland. The Statue of Alexander II, built in the centre

of the square, is one of the city's most important tourist sights and commemorates the relationship between Finland and

Imperial Russia.

En route to the port, we will see the Presidential Palace, Market Square and the majestic Uspenski Orthodox Cathedral.

Once aboard we will be able to admire a unique urban archipelago, with seafront saunas and historic aristocratic villas.

We will pass the fortified islands of Suomenlinna, a naval fortress built on an archipelago of six islands, recognised by UNESCO

as a unique example of European military architecture of its time, before reaching the North Harbour, where a large fleet of

icebreakers is docked.

Our boat tour will come to an end at the brightly coloured and fragrant Market Square, where we will meet our coach to

We will set off from the port by coach for a panoramic tour of Helsinki. With our cameras at the ready, we will pass Senate

Square, home to the city's principal monuments, including the White Cathedral and the city museum. In the centre of the

square stands the Statue of Alexander II, a monument that commemorates the relationship between Finland and Imperial

Russia.

We will make a stop at the park dedicated to the Finnish composer Jean Sibelius to look at the controversial Passio Musicae

monument, an abstract structure made of 600 empty steel tubes that resemble organ pipes. The meaning behind this

monument is still very much up for discussion among the Finns: there are those who say that the sculptor Eila Hiltunen

intended to recall the Northern Lights; others think it looks like ice crystals, some think it is a giant organ, while others find

references to Nordic forests in it. It appears that the artist had no particular intention in mind, and, while commemorating the

life and works of Sibelius, she also wanted visitors to be able to bring their own meaning to the work.

Finally, we will continue to Market Square, where we can soak up the bright colours and irresistible aromas emanating from

the stalls. We will take our time to enjoy some shopping.

We recommend you bring your camera.

fascinating history of Helsinki, they will also explain the importance of the sea to its citizens.

We will be able to admire the extraordinary urban archipelago; its stories, full of intrigue, began when the islands were used as

lookout posts to warn inhabitants along the coast of possible foreign invasions during the Viking age. Today, a thousand years

later, they are home to historic aristocratic residences, where Helsinki's wealthiest families spend their summers. We will also

have the opportunity to catch a glimpse of the unique island within walking distance of Helsinki that is home to the huge

Seurasaari open-air museum, where the traditional Finnish way of life is celebrated on a day-to-day basis. The houses, manor

houses and outbuildings have been moved here from various parts of Finland. The island is currently home to 87 different

buildings that offer a snapshot of rural life in Finland from the 18th century to the present day. We may spot a fire, in which

We get on a coach and leave the capital of Finland behind us headed towards the picturesque Nuuksio national park, where

we are surrounded by unspoilt nature and can admire the most beautiful Finnish landscapes characterised by lakes, woods

We stop at lake Haukkalampi, located at the centre of the park and an excellent starting point for our activities.

We start with a trek surrounded by nature and the peaceful woods appease both our minds and souls.

Our experience turns more adventurous with a canoe ride along the rugged banks of the lake. Halfway during our ride, we

stop to climb a hill offering enchanting views and then get back on our canoes to go back to the starting point.

But there’s more: a thrilling fatbike ride awaits us. Fatbikes are a direct evolution of mountain bikes and are equipped with

large wheels perfect to tackle uneven ground. We tour the park heights as we explore nature.

After our own personal triathlon, we have some free time available inside the park to enjoy this natural marvel as we please or

to take advantage of this break to sip a hot beverage at the café.

An ideal tour for families and for anyone who enjoys the thrill of discovery: we admire the most beautiful sights and corners of

Helsinki with an interesting sightseeing tour and reach the fabulous Sea Life Helsinki aquarium to find our more about life beneath

the sea.

What we will see

Sightseeing tour of Helsinki

Lutheran cathedral

Esplanadi and shipyards

Mannerheimintie and Finlandia Hall

Helsinki aquarium

Ocean tunnel and Discovery Pool

What we will do

We start our excursion with a sightseeing tour of Helsinki, a city that lives in perfect harmony with nature and yet has a lively

cultural scene.

We cross the Senate Square overlooked by the superb Lutheran cathedral, an imposing Neoclassical cathedral completely

finished in white marble.

We proceed along the Esplanadi, two streets in the centre of Helsinki and a true temple of shopping where many embassies

are also located. We then reach the shipyard area, a key economic activity for the country.

We drive along Mannerheimintie, one of the main roads, and admire the Parliament building, setting of many crucial events of

the country’s political life, the national museum and the modern Finlandia Hall designed by the famous Finnish architect Alvar

Aalto.

We finally reach the Sea Life Helsinki aquarium, where we remain speechless in front of the beautiful variety of sea creatures

populating the underwater world.

We walk along the Ocean Tunnel below the main tank filled with sharks, rays and a myriad of colourful fish.

We then visit the Discovery Pool, where we can admire up close and even touch fascinating creatures such as starfish and

learn interesting information about live at the bottom of the sea.

We cannot miss to meet the largest guest in the aquarium: Mussukka, the zebra shark who swims majestically in one of the

large tanks. An unforgettable experience!

At the end of the visit, we board our coach to return to the ship.

Neva river cruise

What we will do

We will set off towards Pushkin, a town known in the past as Tsarskoe Selo (Tsar's Village), where the wonderful Catherine

Palace awaits us. Commissioned by Peter the Great for his wife Catherine in 1710, this estate was used as the imperial

family's summer residence until the period of the last Tsar.

Inside the palace, we will be amazed by the rooms and galleries decorated with period furniture, candelabra and paintings.

Most striking of all is the famous Amber Room, once considered the eighth wonder of the world, with walls covered entirely in

amber panels with gold leaf decorations and mirrors. Plundered by the Nazis during the Second World War, it was rebuilt

piece by piece in 2003 by expert Russian artisans. We will end our visit to the palace with a walk in its well-kept gardens.

After lunch, our tour will continue with a cruise along the Neva river. St. Petersburg is often called "the Venice of the North" as

the city was developed over 42 islands and more than 62 small streams and canals cross it in all directions.

Whilst on board our boat and the coloured domes and fairy-tale buildings bewitch us with their reflections twinkling on the

water, our guide will tell us stories and legends about the noble families that once owned the buildings on the riverbank.

We will pass the granite walls of the Peter and Paul Fortress and the golden spires of the majestic Saint Peter and Paul

Cathedral, whilst, in the distance, we can make out the onion domes of Smolny Cathedral. The memory of the fabulous views

that appear before our eyes at every turn along the river will keep our minds occupied whilst we return to the ship.

Most striking of all is the famous Amber Room , once considered the eighth wonder of the world, with walls covered entirely in

amber panels with gold leaf decorations and mirrors. Plundered by the Nazis during the Second World War, it was rebuilt

piece by piece in 2003 by expert Russian artisans. We will end our visit to the palace with a walk in its well-kept gardens.

Our tour will continue with a cruise along the Neva river. St. Petersburg is often called "the Venice of the North" as the city was

developed over 42 islands and more than 62 small streams and canals cross it in all directions.

Field of Mars, Mikhailovsky Castle and Eternal Flame

Griboedov Canal and Arts Square

Ploschad' Vosstaniya and Avtovo metro stops

Tea and typical pastries at the Vintage Café

What we will do

The first stop on our tour of St. Petersburg is the Church of the Saviour on Spilled Blood, a symbol of the town that stands out

thanks to its profile, structure and lavish decoration. Once our coach reaches the Field of Mars, we will cross the park on foot

to reach the church. In doing so, we will pass two other attractions that we can admire in all their glory: Mikhailovsky Castle

and the Eternal Flame.

We will tour the inside of this marvellous, multi-coloured Russian-style church with its onion-shaped dome, built when

Emperor Alexander II was assassinated on 1 March 1881.

Our visit to St. Petersburg would not be complete without a trip on the famous metro. We will walk to the nearest stop to

discover it, strolling alongside the Griboedov Canal and crossing Arts Square. .St Petersburg Metro was designed back in

1899, works only began in 1941, eight years after the Moscow metro opened, due to the First World War and the Russian

Revolution. Work was interrupted during the Second World War and only restarted after the armistice, providing us with the

splendour that we will now have before our eyes.

We will enjoy a return journey along metro Line 1, from Ploschad' Vosstaniya station to Avtovo. Opened on 15 November

1955, Line 1 links the city's five train stations. Considered one of the best in the world right from the start in terms of

efficiency, cleanliness and architectural merit, the metro is currently the safest, most reliable and comfortable way to get

around St. Petersburg.

The city network is also the deepest in the world, with some stations situated over 100 metres below street level. Whilst the

oldest are richly decorated with polished granite, multi-coloured marble, stainless steel, bronze, aluminium, synthetic materials,

glass, mosaics, low relief and sculptures, the more recent stations have a simple, modern structure.

After our metro ride, we will stop at the Vintage Café to sip a cup of tea and sample the delicious Russian pastries. Just one

taste will have you hooked.

The itinerary may be subject to change depending on the traffic conditions and local circumstances.

The excursion is not suitable for guests in wheelchairs due to the presence of stairs and long journeys on foot.

Metropolitan of St. Petersburg

What we will do

We will begin our tour hopping on-board the coach in the city centre: we will pass in front of Saint Isaac's Cathedral, boasting a

Neoclassical style and a 21.8 metre gold dome making it the tallest cathedral in the world, and the Bronze Horseman, a

monument dedicated to Peter the Great, standing at 6 metres and resting on an enormous granite monolithic stone. The

square surrounding the monument (Senate Square, also known as Decembrist Square) is a favourite spot amongst couples

getting married to take photos.

From here, we will set off on our walk along the Marina Arsenaland, from the area opposite the Neva River, we can admire the

State University (founded in 1724 upon the order of Tsar Peter the Great of Russia, and one of the oldest and most

prestigious universities in Russia), the Academy of Sciences and the House of Art, also known as the "House of inquisitiveness",

a name preferred by Peter the Great to describe his collection of anatomical preparations and scientific instruments.

We will continue our tour with a visit to Palace Square (one of St. Petersburg's main squares and theatre in 1917 at the end

of the Russian Revolution) and walk along Nevsky thoroughfare St. Petersburg's main road, which is 4 km long, which crosses

the city from the Admirality to the Alexander Nevski monastery, the heart of the shopping area and is flanked by elegant

buildings, amongst which the Winter Palace. From here, we will arrive at the Gostiny Dvor metro station.

The last stage on our tour includes an unmissable tour of the famous*metropolitan of St. Petersburg*, also called "metro" in

Russian. Initial plans overseeing the creation of the metro date back to 1899, but were not implemented owing to the Russian

Revolution of 1917 and the outbreak of the Second World War. In 1941, when works began, the then USSR was due to join

the war and works were suspended, and resumed at the end of the conflict. The first line opened on the 15 November 1955

and linked up the city's 5 railway stations. From the moment it was opened, it was acclaimed as one of the best in the world,

not only owing to efficiency and cleanliness, but also for its architecture. It is presently one of the fastest, safest and most

comfortable modes of transport in the world. Most stations are equipped with lifts; the older stations have been richly

decorated with coloured granite, various colour marble, stainless steel, bronze, aluminium, synthetic materials, glass, various

mosaics, bas reliefs and sculptures, whilst newer stations boast a modern and simple design, which are however just as

striking. Every station is unique in this sense. The metropolitan of St. Petersburg is also one of the deepest in the world, with

some stations excavated at more than 100 metres deep.

What we will do

We will set off on our cruise of the city's rivers and canals to avoid the rush-hour traffic and we will admire the most significant

monuments from a privileged viewpoint. The canals actually help to create a unique atmosphere as they reflect the city's

golden domes and fairy-tale buildings.

Known across the world as the "Venice of the North" because of its geographic, structural and architectural resemblance to

the magnificent Italian city on the lagoon, St. Petersburg is the most important port in Russia and is one of Europe's main

cultural hubs. The city was built over 42 islands and was developed around a complex network and canals and rivers (69 in

total) stretching 300 km. These canals also mark the borders of the different districts. St. Petersburg's classic low-rise

architecture often allows the incredible city views to be enjoyed from the water.

On leaving the port, we will travel into the cultural heart of Tallinn along the city's busy main thoroughfare, lined with the

splendid views of the medieval citadel, with its fairy-tale towers.

We will get off the coach near the Nun's Gate and walk past the Church of the Transfiguration of our Lord to the Lower Town,

We will have a little time to visit the St Catherine's Guild and craft workshops before returning to our coach, which will take us

What we will do

On leaving the port, our coach will take a spectacular scenic route around the walls encircling the Old Town. We will get off

the coach with our guide to explore the Upper Town, famous for its watchtowers, elegant spires and winding streets paved

with cobblestones. Built on top of a hill, it offers an incredible panorama of the spires and red sloping roofs of the Lower Town.

We will descend the Patkul Staircase before finding ourselves in front of the Nun's Tower, one of the many perfectly preserved

towers that run along the walls of the Lower Town. It is here that we will meet the councillor and guardians of the tower: while

our guide tells us about Tallinn's towers and the historical reasons behind their construction, we will watch the guardians as

they call a false alarm and administer the resulting punishment. In the best traditions of Estonian hospitality, the guardians will

offer us drinks and snack on top of the Nun's Tower.

As we move on to the neighbouring Kuldjala Tower, we will be able to pick out different details in the 14th-century medieval

defensive architecture. From the balcony, we will then watch a re-enactment of a duel with swords between a tower guardian

and a thief.

Our next stop in Tallinn is the Lower Town, striking thanks to the exteriors of buildings such as its Raeapteek, the most famous

pharmacy in the Baltic States, the Great Guild house, the homes of merchants, and the 15th-century Gothic Town Hall in

Raekoja Square.

Tallinn's final delight is its multicoloured market and the St Catherine's Guild and craft workshops, where we will be able to

At the end of this pleasant walk through the characteristic old city it is time to continue to the next stage of our excursion, and

What we will do

On our coach, we reach Strömgatan, one of the main streets in the city centre, to discover the wonderful capital of Sweden

like true locals.

Just like most Stockholm inhabitants, who need to move around the city for work or to make errands, we start our tour from

the fascinating underground stations, some of which are true works of art with a wealth of shapes and colours, each with a

different theme.

We start from T-Centralen, the main hub for the various lines. The blue line is a coloured grotto with enchanting flower

drawings and outlines of men at work. We then reach Stadion, located near the Olympic Stadium and characterised by

colourful elements as well as a rainbow near the platform.

We continue our tour as far as Östermalmstorg, where we surface to enjoy a snack in the historic Östermalmshallen, a

magnificent covered market set up in the welcoming atmosphere of a spectacular building erected in 1888.

After our break, we take the underground to the city centre where we go on a guided walking tour of the old city or Gamla

Stan between picturesque squares and characteristic cobbled alleyways winding their way among ancient and elegant

buildings with Baroque doors.

We cross Stortorget, the centre’s main square around which the city grew in the 1300s. It is home to the Stock Exchange

Building, the headquarters of the Nobel Museum and the Swedish Academy, among others.

We take a peek at the narrowest alleyway in Stockholm called Mårten Trotzigs gränd, which climbs up with 36 steps that are

only 90 centimetres wide.

After our guided tour, we have some free time to explore the old city at our leisure before getting back on our coach when we

Our tour to discover Stockholm and its ancient roots starts with the futuristic Vikingaliv museum, where history becomes reality right

more about how they lived, what they eat and how they moved around. We also meet a life-size Viking built using the DNA extracted

from an ancient skeleton! * After our visit, we go on a guided walking tour of the old city or Gamla Stan between picturesque squares

We have the opportunity to spend an afternoon with the entire family: visit Junibacken, where characters from famous tales such as

people lived centuries ago.

What we will see

Junibacken cultural centre

Fairy-tale train and house of Pippi Longstocking

Open-air Skansen museum

Small zoo and activities for children

What we will do

We leave the port on our coach and reach the two most popular family attractions in Stockholm: Junibacken and the open-air

Skansen museum. We have two and a half hours to enjoy the attraction we prefer!

At Junibacken, we enter a fairy-tale world inspired by the stories written by Astrid Lindgren, who invented extraordinary

characters such as Pippi Longstocking.

Right at the entrance, we find ourselves in Fairy-tale Square surrounded by old street lights and inhabited by characters

popular with children. We get on board the fairy-tale train, which takes us on an extraordinary journey through the tales

written by Astrid Lingdren and experience the emotions she can provoke: laughter and tears, amusement and fear.

We enter a perfect recreation of Pippi Longstocking’s house: we can play in her kitchen, go upstairs to see her bedroom or

take a photo with her white horse with black polka-dots.

Before leaving this enchanted place, we have some free time available to take a peek at the largest children’s bookshop in

Sweden or go to the café, decorated in the rustic style of days gone by and offering lovely views of the sea.

Alternatively, we can choose the open-air Skansen museum, the first-ever of its kind with houses and farms from all over the

country reproducing a miniature-version of Sweden and illustrating life and working conditions of the past.

The museum is also has a small zoo with wild animals from Nordic regions such as wolves, elks, seals and otters, in addition to

numerous local species of historical interest part of protection plans.

The museum is very interesting for adults and fun for children: in Skansen, everything is designed for children, who can ride a

pony, discover games of the past, watch the animals and make friends with them or become involved in everyday farm

activities.

What we will do

We start off our excursion with a sightseeing tour of Stockholm by coach to admire a few of the main sights including the

elegant Östermalm neighbourhood and Sergels Torg, the central square of modern Stockholm.

During the tour, our guide points out the most interesting significant locations of the history of ABBA and tells us a few

interesting facts on Sweden’s most famous band.

We reach the magnificent island of Djurgården, a former royal hunting reserve that is now an idyllic place for wonderful walks

with many museums just a stone’s throw from the city centre.

It is also the location of the main destination of our tour: the ABBA museum, dedicated to the legendary platform boot and

sequin jumpsuit- wearing band that revolutionised pop music between 1972 and 1983.

The museum displays objects and peculiarities such as stage clothes in a modern interactive exhibition with footage from their

shows and interviews with the four band members.

The ticket given at the entrance generates a page on the museum website where we can download our live performance: we

become pop stars for a day in a booth where we can dance and sing “wearing” a digital costume!

Ice Bar

What we will do

The first part of this original itinerary in the magnificent city of Stockholm is an enjoyable walk through the centre to the

Gamla Stan district, the beating heart of the historic city that dates bath to the 13th century.

Here we'll be struck by the contrast between the small, characteristic cobbled streets that wind between elegant historic

buildings and picturesque squares, and the majestic and imposing Royal Palace that suddenly appears on the horizon.

When exploring these streets it's easy to imagine you have travelled back in time to a medieval city, thanks to their historic

monuments of international renown.

In a constant game of contrasts, we'll investigate the entrance to the narrowest street in Stockholm, just 90 cm wide and with

36 steps, known as Mårten Trotzigs gränd, then visit the fascinating main square of Gamla Stan, as majestic as it is elegant,

around which the city developed back in the 1300s: Stortorget, or the Big Square, home among others to the Stock

Exchange Building, the headquarters of the Nobel Museum and the Swedish Academy.

At the end of this pleasant walk through the characteristic old city it is time to continue to the next stage of our excursion, and

a highly curious one at that. Returning to the coach we head towards the more modern part of the city and stop at the Nordic

Sea Hotel, home to the world's first permanent Ice Bar.

An icy adventure awaits us in an extraordinary atmosphere with a temperature of minus 7 degrees every day of the year.

An exceptional atmosphere demands exceptional furnishings: all of the bar's interior furnishings, including the glasses in which

the drinks are served, are made of pure ice from the source of the river Torne in northern Sweden.

In order to make this unforgettable experience as enjoyable as possible, each guest is provided with a warm blanket and

gloves before sampling the typical local vodka.

Places on this excursion are limited. We recommend booking early to avoid disappointment.

The minimum age for consuming alcoholic beverages at the Ice Bar is 18.

What we will do

Our tour takes us to the historic centre of the magnificent Scandinavian capital, Gamla Stan or Old City. We'll be fascinated by

the characteristic little streets and delightful cobbled squares of the Stockholm residents' preferred location for meeting,

eating out, shopping or simply taking a walk.

At the end of one of these narrow streets we can see the enormous, imposing Royal Palace, built in the 18th century on the

same site as the 13th century Vasa fortress which was destroyed by fire in 1697. The current complex, the official residence

of the Swedish monarchy, is made up of a series of robust stone buildings in baroque style comprising over 600 rooms.

Our tour allows us to access the Palace and visit the Apartments with their magnificent baroque and rococo interiors, fully

admiring this highly important historical and cultural monument, one of the most fascinating royal palaces in Europe.

At the end of the visit to the Royal Palace an enjoyable tour of the Old Town awaits. Walking through its typical narrow streets,

we'll breathe in the bohemian atmosphere, admiring the characteristic residences dating back to the 15th and 16th centuries,

adorned with baroque gateways and old heraldic shields. We'll also take the opportunity to shop in the numerous boutiques,

galleries, antiques shops and craftsmen's workshops.

Unmissable sights include the oldest church in Gamla Stan, the cathedral known as Storkyrkan or Big Church, near the Royal

Palace. The church has always been the site of major events in Swedish history, such as coronations and royal weddings and

funerals.

Behind it is the main square of the Old City, Stortorget, or Large Square, around which the city developed in the 1300s.

Among others, it is home to the Stock Exchange Building, the headquarters of the Nobel Museum and the Swedish Academy.

Our excursion's unmissable destination is Stockholm, Sweden's magnificent capital. The city is renowned for its characteristic

Our tour introduces us to the most characteristic locations and the most architecturally significant buildings, the first of which is

the imposing City Hall, the city's political centre and the location for the annual celebrations that follow the presentation of the

Having admired its imposing exterior surrounded by water and topped with three golden crowns, the symbol of the kingdom

of Sweden we'll visit the sumptuous Golden Hall whose walls are entirely covered with precious golden mosaics composed of

over 19 million tiles.

We return to the coach for a panoramic tour.

We continue on our itinerary towards the green island of Djurgården with its numerous historic buildings, monuments,

Here we visit the famous Vasa Museum, a navigation museum with a unique 17th century ship that has remained practically
