CORS UPDATE FEBRUARY 25, 2016 DeeAnn Allison, Director Jason Bougger, Systems Coordinator Dwight Leggott, Computer Manager Jane Li, Computer Technician Mike Litwa, Programmer Larry Mozer, Computer Specialist Tom Nagata, Computer Technician Stacy Rickel, Programmer Steve Sall, Computer Specialist Aaron McCluskey, Media Technology Specialist Jenny Thoegersen, Data Curator Richie Graham, Technology Librarian Kate Kane, Specialist A consortium responding to a shared problem set Our institutions increasingly rely on digital technology, content, and data to support their diversifying educational missions. But, the current technology landscape is ill-suited to support a collaborative, interdependent, innovative and scalable teaching & learning ecosystem. An ecosystem of common solutions Institutions collaborate through Unizin to build infrastructure, services, and applications that scale an interoperable, integrated technology ecosystem for teaching & learning. In other words providing a search interface where a faculty member can search a repository of learning objects created by other faculty and pull them into his/her course. UNIZIN VISION A SOLUTION LOOKING FOR PROBLEMS TO SOLVE Unizin based the tripartite (lib-content integrations, metadata, and services) on a set of assumptions about the content Discovery and Contribution needs of users in a T&L ecosystem. Discussion centers on authentication, licensing/copyright issues, and questions about what is stored on the remote site and for how long. Server Stuff What are servers and why do we have them? A server is a high-performance computer designed to process requests and deliver data over a network connection, such as a website, file server, or ftp. We have about 30 servers:14 Windows & 16 Linux What goes on these servers? In our environment, our servers serve the primary purpose of storing, managing, and presenting data. The storage aspect includes images, documents, and SharePoint. The management aspect includes services like Rosetta, SignUp, and (to a degree) SharePoint, and anything involving patron records. The presentation aspect includes web-based applications, public databases and the catalog, CONTENTdm, public CDRH projects. Server stuff (continued) What kind of data and how much data do we have? If you add up everything, we've got 40 TB of Archival data, which includes high quality tiff for Archives, Architecture, and CDRH. We've got another 10 TB of "production" data, which includes the SharePoint database, all public websites and databases, and lower scale images for websites. Public traffic stats (or How Popular are we?) A few examples from 2015: Whitman Archive: 847,810 (556,929 unique) visits / 18,899,526 page views Cather Archive: 256,579 (154,039 unique) visits / 3,789,340 page views Lewis and Clark Journals: 266,901 (161,482 unique) visits / 7,344,440 page views How safe are we? What do we do about security? Types of attacks: DDoS, Brute Force, Viruses What do we do to stop them? (Firewalls, VPN, TCP Wrappers, Symantec, ITS Scan) What do we do it were hit? Contact ITS Security Notify users. Clean up / Format as necessary. These searches allow more sophisticated groupings and facilitate sharing your searches with other libraries. As simple as a cut and paste to the Sierra Listserv. Specifically there are two new methods of building a Create Lists query: an "Enhanced" query builder that displays query conditions in a more intuitive manner and supports associating multiple terms with a target, as well as a new "IN" operator a "JSON" query builder that represents the query in JSON. These JSON-formatted queries can be saved to, and loaded from, the user's local filesystem. STATISTICS Sierra Statistics: Sierra Statistics has been re-factored to better access the Sierra architecture providing end users with an optimized experience running statistics in Sierra.
