Dear Parents/Guardians, PRINCIPALS COLUMN
.End of Term
Once again, thank you to all the teachers and support staff for the extra hours that you have provided to our students and the
many extracurricular hours you have put in to benefit students and the College. A special thank you to Steve Melhuish, Neill
Nichols and Helen Malitz who have put in an inordinate number of hours to ensure the reports meets the high standards that our
school community deserves and expects. We are a very fortunate school to have such a dedicated and professional team.
School finished at 2.30pm today. School recommences on Monday 11th July. I wish everyone a restful and rewarding break ready
to start the new term with energy and vigour. I look forward to the challenges of next term.
Report Cards for Semester 1 Handed Out Today
Student Report Cards for semester 1 were distributed during a form assembly at the end of the day.
If students were not present, the report may be collected from the General Office on your return next term.
In Victoria the Australian Curriculum is referred to as AusVELS. This curriculum and assessment framework was implemented
in 2013 in Victorian government schools from Foundation to Year 10. AusVELS uses an eleven level structure (refer to the table
below) which reflects the design of the Australian Curriculum whilst retaining the Victorian priorities and approaches to teaching
and learning.
AusVELS replaces the VELS – Victorian Essential Learning Standards that have been used in schools since 2006. The Victorian
Essential Learning Standards (VELS) outlined what was essential for all Victorian students to learn during their time at school
from Foundation to year 10. This set of common state-wide standards was used to plan student learning programs, assess student
progress and report to parents. Student report cards will look very similar to reports in the past.
The eleven level structure of AusVELS is shown below:
We hope that this information will assist you in interpreting your report card.
Staff Changes for Semester 2, 2016
Due to staff taking leave and ongoing illnesses, the College has had to implement some staffing changes.
In response to this Gerard Evans will continue to run the Art and library programs at the junior campus as well as run some pro-
grams with Matt Barlee’s class and help Amy Paton with literacy intervention.
Fran Heath will be elevated to the Acting Assistant Principal role while Sarah is on family leave and to back fill Fran’s classes
we have hired a new Art teacher, Diana Baker. I hope that the school community makes her feel welcome when she arrives next
term.
Modification to the Junior Campus School Crossing
The Towong Shire in partnership Vic Roads will be making changes the Junior campus crossing – Towong Road. Road works
will involve moving the school crossing, extending the island and widening the footpath.
This will now have some impact on the buses as they will no longer be able to turn in front of the island. Bus drivers will have to
go around the roundabout and then line up as usual.
The Shire has assured us that there will be minimal disruption and that they will try to work with the school as much as possible.
Most of the works will be on the junior campus side and that they will continue to operate the exiting crossing during the work
schedule to reduce the impact on the school children. There will be some delays and traffic control on this section of the road will
operate during the middle of the day.

Student Bus Travel – Repeat!
Students who are REGULAR USES of the school buses are ONLY able to swap buses to go to a friend’s place if a written note has been
provided to the school, preferably the day before, and counter signed by Mr Matt Barlee, Ms Sarah Klippel or Mr Tony Valente.
Students that are NOT REGULAR bus uses are NOT to use the buses for any reason until an official bus form has been completed and
signed by a parent or guardian. These forms can be obtained from the General Office.
Further to this it is MANDATORY that students use seat belts in buses that have them fitted. Failure to do so may lead to students losing
their privilege of using the school bus.
Your cooperation in this matter is greatly appreciated.
School Levies and Charges With the end of Term 2, half the year is gone. Hence it is important that outstanding school levies and charges are settled as soon as pos-
sible.
School levies and charges for the Essential Education Items are as follows;
Prep to Year 2 - $120, Year 3 to Year 6 - $200 Year 7 and 8 - $210, Year 9 and 10 - $210 The levies and charges are more than reasonable when compared to charges issued by other schools. Payment of school levies and charges is a significant component of meeting a child’s education. We ask parents to make arrangements, as soon as possible, for pay-ment at the College Office. Tony Valente (Principal)
This year the Social theme is…. Throughout Time!
This theme will allow students to pick something from the past, present or even the future to dress up
as! Come as a royal knight, clad in iron armour, or as a princess decorated in prestigious clothes! Bust
out the 80s leg warmers, warm up the curlers and slap on a fluro sweatband! Dig up some old hessian
bags, have a mud bath and come along as a late age peasant, or wrap yourself up in aluminium foil and
silver face paint and dance as a robot from the future! The possibilities are literally endless, since there
is no restriction on what you can and can’t come as.
Save the date for the 22nd of July, or the second Friday of Term 3. Tickets will be available in Term 3
from the office. The Junior Social will take place from 5pm to 6:30pm and the Senior will take place
from 7pm to 10pm. As it will be freezing, students attending the Senior Social should get there at 7pm,
as that is when the doors will open. Students that arrive at 6:30 will be waiting in the cold until the doors open.
Senior tickets will cost $10 at the office, or $20 at the door, while the Junior tickets will cost $5 at the office or $10
at the door. We encourage everyone to come along and have an awesome night.

MANAGERESS: Vanessa Bardrick
We are now back on the island of Bali and preparing to go out
to Menjangan Island for a full day of snorkelling. Although Java
and Bali are in the same country of Indonesia, they seem like
two different worlds. We enjoyed visiting the incredible herit-
age sites of Borobudur and Prambanan and learning a little
more about Muslim customs and traditions. Back on Bali, we
were immediately surrounded again by the Hindu religion. Yet,
everywhere we go the people are friendly, helpful and wel-
coming. We all loved our time in Ubud and now feel as if we
are seasoned travellers. Tomorrow we climb the volcano of
Mt. Batur. Some are feeling more nervous than others! We are
all missing home but not the cold weather.
Who would've thought that a group of teenagers
would be at the top of a volcano eating a breakfast
of eggs that have been cooked in volcanic steam
whilst watching the most amazing sunrise? Today
we conquered the mountain! Yesterday we snor-
kelled at beautiful Menjangan Island and tomorrow
we are off to chase dolphins before packing up and
going to the airport to return home. We have had
amazing experiences. Seen incredible things. And
learned much about ourselves and our world.
Terima kasih! We can't wait to see you all again
soon and tell you about our travels
Who would complain about getting up early when you are heading out chasing dolphins off the shore of Lovina and watching the sunrise off traditional Indonesian boats with your fellow travellers. What a magic way to spend our final morning here.
What a great semester it has been! We here at the Leadership Team hope everyone has had an enjoyable term and is ready for a relax-ing break (except for the Year 12s). Corryong College has achieved many amazing accomplishments over the last 6 months, both aca-demic and sporting, and we hope we can keep up the good work for the rest of the year. This semester we have had many students proudly represent our school at various levels in different sporting events, and we congratu-late everyone on their efforts. A special mention goes out to Ryan Norman and Kristy Whitehead for reaching state level in the Cross Country running event, and Jorja Brown for achieving State level in 50m breaststroke. Well done on achieving this great feat. Also during this semester we held two great fundraising events, Paint the School Red for MS Day, and Bright Colours Day. With the great support of everyone in the school community and the amazing organising skills of the Murray house, our school was able to raise over $500 as everyone came dressed in red to support and raise awareness of MS a condition that affects the lives of many people in Australia. Jeremal house also organised a fundraising day in support of Angelman’s Syndrome for our very own Kalinda Bos who suffers from this condition, which involved some very bright costumes and great activities including a colouring mural at the Junior Campus and a trivia game at the Senior Campus. We were able to raise almost $400 For Kalinda and her family through this great event. The year 9/10s have embarked on their Indonesian trip and we all hope they are having an amazing time escaping from this cold weath-er on the beautiful beaches of Bali. The school production “Grease!” was a brilliant play put together by Nadia Edwards and her skilled team of drama students, and we would like to congratulate everyone on their great performance. Don’t forget the school social is on next term with the theme as “Throughout Time”, get thinking on a costume! From all of us at the Student Leadership Team we wish everyone a happy holidays see you all next term!

HATCHET DIORAMAS Year 5/6’s have just completed dioramas that reflect the Canadian Wilderness depicted in the novel HATCHET by Gary Paulsen. In this novel, 13 year old Brian must overcome enormous obstacles when stranded in the Canadian Wilderness. Finding food, overcoming nature, bears, moose, fish, porcupines and skunks leave Brian fighting for his life and learning skills he never thought possible. The Year 5/6 students have done a tremendous job of creating dio-ramas that closely reflect Brian’s environment. They should be con-gratulated on an outstanding effort. Here are just a few examples of the dioramas that were created. Pictures of each will go home with all of the students so that parents, family and friends can enjoy their work too. Well done 5/6’s!
On Wednesday, 15 June, eighteen students, (mainly Year 8), travelled to Wodonga and joined others
from Wodonga, Beechworth and Tallangatta, to participate in an Indonesian Language Immersion Day. In
small groups, and supported by Indonesian teachers, the students rotated through a range of activities:
Gamelan (traditional percussive music), Traditional Dance, Bermain Peran (market bargaining skills), Pen-
cak Silat (a martial art) and an Indonesian lunch. The day culminated with an entertaining performance.
Overall, a fun and friendly day was had learning about Indonesian cultural customs and language.
The Indonesian Immersion Day was organised by the North Eastern Victorian Region through funding from the De-
partment of Education and Training and was available to students from rural schools.

PARENTS CLUB NEWS - OP SHOP
The Corryong OP Shop is operated by volunteers, managed by a committee made up of 3 members from each of Corryong College,
Sacred Heart and Pre School, 1 interested community member. All profits are distributed to the schools. For the past 2 years, each school
has received $6000.00. Parents Club distribute this money in response to teacher requests for equipment / resources, educational pro-
grams and excursion subsidies. These funds are significant and very important for our school, particularly the Junior levels. This money
should not be taken for granted and is not guaranteed without participation from the school community.
Corryong College currently have only 9 volunteers contributing to the OP Shop roster making it difficult to keep the shop open. Please
consider volunteering, even 1 shift per term makes a difference. Pair up with a friend, family member or neighbour. It is an easy, enjoya-
ble way to spend a few hours and makes a huge contribution to the school.
Helpers are urgently needed for Fridays, morning and afternoon, also Saturday mornings.
Please contact Sally Permezel for more information 0448 203 728 or [email protected]
