ANNUAL MEETING
TAF UPDATE
ALEUT STOCK QUESTIONS
President’s Reportby Thomas Mack
The Annual Meeting was a huge success, with over 700 shareholders, descendants and family members attending the meeting and events. Once again, we streamed webcasts of both the meeting and Culture Night. We received valuable feedback from folks watching who enjoyed having that option – thanks for letting us know.
Each Annual Meeting has a theme based on what we have heard from you, our shareholders, throughout the previous years. Our 2009 theme was “Growing Aleut.” In 2010, it was “Never Forgotten: A Salute to our Veterans.” “Moving Forward” was 2011’s theme followed by “Celebrating 40 Years” in 2012. This year, “Joining Generations” was chosen since so many of you realize the importance of gifting your Aleut Corporation shares to your descendants and family members.
Sara, a 35-year-old descendant, summed it up well. “When my mother gifted some of her shares to me, it opened up a whole new world,” she said. “When I looked at the Aleut Corporation web page, I realized I was a part of something very big.”
Gifting your shares and having a will on file ensures that every shareholder secures the benefits of the Aleut Corporation for generations to come. If you have questions about gifting, please call the corporation at 1-800-232-4882.
The Village Seminar, Culture Night and Annual Meeting ended with a grand celebration – the banquet. More than 640 shareholders and their families and friends filled the Tikatnu Room at the Dena’ina Center. Marge Ford and the Polka Chips started the night’s music, followed by the Woodrow Band.
I’d like to congratulate our three new members to the Board of Directors: Gary Ferguson, Debi Schmidt and Vince Tutiakoff. My sincere thanks to our long-standing board members: Elary Gromoff, Debra Mack and Carl Moses. They have left an indelible mark on the history of the corporation. Also to be congratulated are Elder of the Year Edna Floyd from St. Paul Island, Shareholder of the Year Sally Swetzof from Atka and Student of the Year Christine King from Anchorage. Finally, a hearty thank you to the Unalaska Unangax̂ Dancers who regaled us with Aleut dances and music in their first-ever performance. They were amazing!
One of the many highlights from the Village Seminar was having two of our small village corporations, Belkofski Corporation and Chaluka (Nikolski) Corporation, participate for the first time in many years. We at the Aleut Corporation are proud of them and happy that we were able to assist them in their endeavors to become more stable and active. If your village corporation needs any assistance, please don’t hesitate to contact the Aleut Corporation at [email protected] or 1-800-232-4882.
I wish every one of you a very happy holiday season and a bright 2014!

This issue’s topic: TAC’s Acquisition Strategy
I’ve been asked on more than one occasion how TAC identifies potential acquisition candidates. How do companies like a water testing company in Thornton, Colorado, fit together with a company from Port Allen, Louisiana, that does radioactive waste remediation? It may not be obvious, but a lot of thought goes into identifying and pursuing acquisition targets. This month, I’d like to share some of our thought processes.
First, a few words about focus. TAC’s main focus area is providing services. Those services are primarily in the areas of construction, operation and maintenance, oil field support, and laboratory chemical analysis. Our acquisitions strategy emphasizes strengthening our capabilities in these specific areas.
When seeking target operating companies (as opposed to more static investments like real estate and the Permanent Fund) we look for situations where we can make 1+1=3. In other words, we target opportunities where TAC’s skills and know-how combined with those of the target create greater value than either has on its own.
For example, our newest subsidiary, ARS International, does radiochemical lab analysis for the federal government and commercial customers. Our government contracting subsidiary, Aleut Management Services (AMS), provides facilities operation and maintenance services. Together, AMS and ARS are now pursuing an opportunity to both perform the lab analysis and maintain the facility of a Department of Energy lab, a contract neither could have developed on its own.
CEO’s Reportby Dave Gillespie
Another thing we look for in a candidate is whether we can bring its service to existing customers, or vice versa. (There’s an old salesman’s saying “It’s easier to up-sell an existing customer than it is to find a new one.”)
Our oil field services business, C&H Testing, provides on-site tube testing as part of the oil well drilling process. A frequent by-product of that well drilling process is small amounts of low-level “naturally occurring radioactive material,” NORM. ARS International has a long history of testing for NORM in the Gulf of Mexico. C&H and ARS are now working together to potentially bring NORM testing to C&H’s customers in California.
On rare occasions, an opportunity arises that is outside our main focus areas, but creates shareholder value so compelling that we make an exception. Our recent acquisition of Patrick Mechanical fits this category.
Much of TAC’s long-term success will come from the strategic acquisitions we make today. By focusing our efforts on opportunities that extend and expand our existing capabilities, we are putting in place solid platforms for growth for generations to come.

Chair Reportby Dick Jacobsen
I’d like to thank all of the shareholders for another successful Annual Meeting and congratulate the three newly elected directors to the Board. There is a lot of work to be done, and I’m sure they are all up to the task. We, as board members, are hearing what the shareholders are telling us, and we’re trying to respond to your wishes as best as possible, while managing and trying to move the company forward to maximize profitability and dividends.
So how do we move the company forward and maximize profitability? We’re lucky that the Board of Directors is diverse, and the directors comprise a variety of different strengths and abilities. With these
• Motion to approve an amendment to the FY2014 TAC operating budget in the amount of $386,000 to reflect the Alaska Supreme Court’s recent ruling on a prior legal matter and to update incentive compensation goals to reflect this change.
• Motion to authorize TAC management to provide a cash infusion to ARS of up to $1.5M in the form of a one-year, interest-free loan.
• Motion to authorize management on engaging McGladrey to perform the fiscal year 2014 external audit, VEBA audit, a 401k audit as presented, and to update the budget for the ARS audit fees.
• Motion to authorize TAC and AE manage-ment to initiate a formal lawsuit with Brusco for the Adak dock repairs.
• Motion to authorize the formation of a joint venture entity between AOMS and ARS, subject to legal due diligence.
• Motion to approve the expenditure by AMS of $733,000 for Fort Belvoire vehicles, tools and supplies.
Board Actions
strengths and abilities, we also embody varying priorities and ideas on how to best move the company forward. The Board of Directors does not always agree unanimously on every item discussed and voted on, nor should we. We create a stronger company by considering all points of view and having civil discourse. However, once a decision is made by majority vote, out of respect for the democratic process, and in support of our fellow directors, we all work together to support the consensus.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to everyone. I hope your year is happy, healthy, and prosperous.
• Motion to approve the 2013 Election Results, which showed:

Positive, constructive, two-way communi-
cation between the Aleut Corporation
and the Village Corporations is very
important to the board, management
and staff. In September, we surveyed the
managements of the Village Corporations
and their boards to get a better feel for
what the ideal communication plan would
look like. We sent out 50 surveys and had
an excellent return rate. Here is what
we learned:
• A majority of respondents were
generally satisfied with the type and
the amount of communication from
the Corporation. We will continue to
send out current information to our
Village Corporations.
Village Corporation Communication Survey• 76% of respondents believed that Village
Visits are beneficial for the shareholders
in the region. We also learned that
Shareholder Information meetings are
important to shareholders regardless
of where they live. We will continue to
optimize these meetings.
• On the subject of preferred communication
options, a strong majority of respondents
wanted more Village Corporation Round-
table Discussions. Therefore, next year we
will plan two Roundtable Discussions
with Village Corporations’ leadership,
management and board members. These
will be tentatively scheduled for the end
of April and the beginning of September
2014. More economic development
discussions will be included on the agenda.
• While we realize that not any one type
of communication works for all people,
we reach out using as many forms of
communication as possible, such as
newsletters (printed and electronic),
phone calls, teleconferences, TAC
website and Facebook. We will
continue to use these methods and
new ones as they develop.
While this survey was specific to
communication between Village
Corporations and TAC, we always
appreciate feedback from our
shareholders. You can reach us at info@
aleutcorp.com or 1-800-232-4882.

The Aleut Foundation Update by Cynthia Lind, Executive Director
Aang Aang!
Can you believe it is almost the end of the year already? Where has the time gone?
The Foundation has been busy processing the last of the 2013-2014 scholarship award letters and checks. We are also in the process of working on the 2014 Spring Scholarship applications.
The Aleut Foundation would like to thank Debra Mack and Thomas Mack for their many years of service on TAF Board. Without their support and hard work, the Foundation would not be where it is today. They fought hard to increase our funding from the Aleut Corporation, which reached $1.2 million this fiscal year. They also supported increasing the funding levels for all scholarships.
Chair Debra Mack helped create a new endowment program that was approved in October 2013, and we are proud to carry on her legacy in the years to come. She went above and beyond her Board duties when she volunteered her time at the office. Along with Kathy Griesbaum, they
took care of the administrative duties and scholarship programs until I came aboard in November 2009. She has been, and will continue to be, a dedicated supporter of the Foundation. Debra, “You have left some big shoes to fill and will be missed.”
TAF has two new board members, Patricia Lekanoff-Gregory and Michael Jenks. Ms. Lekanoff-Gregory currently sits on the Board of Directors for the Aleut Corporation and is a past TAF scholarship recipient. Mr. Jenks is a retired U.S. Marine who works for the Southcentral Foundation and is pursuing his MBA in general business and human resources. We are looking forward to working with the new board members.

Aleut Shareholder BenefitsYou have many benefits as an Aleut
Corporation shareholder. Starting in
this newsletter, we are going to share
information from frequently asked
shareholder questions. If you have a
question you’d like to see answered
here, or if you need more information
about your records, email info@
aleutcorp.com or call (800) 232-4882.
Can someone inherit my class
A or B stock?
Yes. When a shareholder dies,
the family sends the Shareholder
Records department a certified
copy of the death certificate. The
Aleut Corporation will also accept
a copy of an obituary as legal notice
a shareholder has passed. Staff will
then begin the stock inheritance
determination process. Once that is
complete, the transfer of shares will
take place.
How do I receive burial
assistance?
The Aleut Foundation provides burial
assistance for shareholders. They also
require a certified copy of the death
certificate. The Aleut Foundation
is a separate entity from the Aleut
Corporation, so the death certificate
needs to be provided to both
organizations.
Aleut Stock QuestionsCan I will my stock to someone?
Yes. You may do this one of two ways:
1. By filling out a Stock Will Form or
2. By having a written will.
It is very important to have one of these two
items in your Shareholder Records file. A
Stock Will form or a will that states “ALEUT
CORPORATION STOCK” lets the Aleut
Corporation Records Department know
who you would like your Aleut stock to go
to after your death. Village Corporation stock
wills are different and do not designate how
Aleut Corporation stocks will be transferred.
If a shareholder has a village corporation
stock will but not an Aleut Corporation
stock will, the stock will be transferred
according to Alaska Intestate Succession laws.
If you will your stock to a person who is not
an Alaska Native or descendant of an Alaska
Native, that person will hold NON-VOTING
STOCK. Non-Voting Stock cannot participate
in annual election of board of directors or
receive Elder dividends.
Is it easy to complete a Stock Will?
Yes, it is very easy, and very important to
complete a Stock Will.
Step 1: Go online to http://www.aleutcorp.
com/shareholders/forms or call the Aleut
Corporation to mail you a Stock Will form.
Step 2: Fill out the form in percentages.
Make sure your shares designated equal 100
percent. For example, if you have 150 shares
and you want to will them to two relatives in
equal amounts, put in 50% for each relative,
not 75 shares.
A Stock Will is not valid if it is not
completely filled out or signed in the
presence of a notary public or two
witnesses that are not beneficiaries of
the stock.
Shareholders who file a valid Stock Will
will be entered into a monthly drawing
for a chance to win $100. Revised Stock
Wills are also entered into the monthly
drawing. If you submit a new Stock Will
with no changes from the last one on file,
you will not be entered into the monthly
drawing.
Can I just tell someone who I
want my stock to go to?
Oral statements made by a shareholder
cannot be used to determine the lawful
heirs of a stock.
What happens if I don’t have an
Aleut Corporation Stock Will or
a will?
Without a will or an Aleut Corporation
Stock Will, the Aleut Corporation will
issue your Class A or B shares according
to Alaska law.
When do my heirs receive the
stock?
Once a final determination of heirs has
been made, the 30-day appeal period has
ended, and all required documents have
been received, the Shareholder Records
Department will issue new stock
certificates to the heir(s). Any accrued
but unpaid dividends will also be paid
to the heir(s).
