TRANSCRIPT
Eastertide is the period of fifty days
from Easter Sunday (which, of course,
was March 27th) to Pentecost Sunday
(which is on May 15th, this year).
Each Sunday of the season is treated
as a Sunday of Easter, and, after the
Sunday of the Resurrection, they are
named Second Sunday of Easter,
Third Sunday of Easter, etc. up to the
Seventh Sunday of Easter, with
Pentecost Sunday following that day.
Pentecost, of course, is the celebration
of the “arrival of the Holy
Spirit” (according to the Luke-Acts
storyline) and the birth of the church
(Acts 2:1-13).
So, here’s what we’re going
to be doing for the next six weeks
during our worship hour together on
Sunday morning: We’re going to be
Surfing Eastertide

journeying with the apostles as they
begin to share the Christ experience
that was theirs on that first Easter
morning as they returned from the
tomb. Their declarations turned very
quickly to demonstrations as they began
to teach and preach at the Temple in
Jerusalem and as they moved beyond
that city. They came up against many
who were opposed to their message,
who were fearful, enraged, indifferent,
and confused. They also encountered
those who were moved, even to
conversion, because of the message they
shared.
We will follow these first
century apostles and the formation of
the early church through the Seventh
Sunday of Easter so that we may make an
informed decision for ourselves on
Pentecost Sunday this year: Are we
going to turn our own words and beliefs
about God in Christ Jesus into action?
Are we going to demonstrate Christ in
the way we live and the way we love?
And what does a demonstration of such
a life and love “look like?”
These questions and more will
guide us as we Surf Eastertide together
this year. And you know where it all
starts …
See you in church,
Pastor Joel

CELEBATING AND SENDING JENNA AND PATRICK
Our beloved Director of Youth Ministry for the past two and a half years and her husband Patrick are following their call
to upstate New York and their last Sunday with us will be April 10th . We have a few events planned so that as many of
you as possible can celebrate then and thank Jenna for her ministry to us. More details will follow in the weeks ahead, but
do mark your calendars for this special day.
Sunday, April 10th immediately after Worship
Our Congregational Care Team will host a reception in the Gathering Room for Jenna and Patrick. Please plan to stop by
for a few moments for some punch and cake and to share your love and good wishes to them in all that lies ahead.
Sunday, April 10th from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
On behalf of the Youth Ministry Team, Youth Parents, and all our Youth, Mitch and Jenny Williams are hosting a potluck
dinner at their house for ALL WHO ARE ABLE TO COME. This is not just for the Youth!! Please bring a dish that
would serve you family, plus four!
OLDHAM/JEFFERSON COUN-
TY PUBLIC SCHOOL SPRING
BREAK!! April 4th through April 8th
Though this week typically keeps our
families in short supply on the Sunday
before (April 3rd) and the Sunday after
(April 10th), we are still planning on FULL
ministry opportunities for ALL ages.
Hope to see you, if you stay “in town!”
SECOND WEDNESDAY IN APRIL Wednesday Evening – April 13, 5:45 to 6:55 p.m.
After Dinner: Time with Austin Wicks
In partial fulfillment of his Field Education, but also (and mostly)
for fun, our Seminary Student Minister, Austin Wicks, will lead
us in this time together after dinner.
Please plan to join us for the only Lenten Meal we will
share here this Season.
Call the church office for a dinner reservation: 241-4326.
As part of our 150th Anniversary Celebration:
YOU CHOOSE THE HYMNS!
For Pentecost Sunday, May 15th
On Pentecost Sunday, May 15th, the worship service will feature the congregation’s favorite hymns of all time! This is
your chance to select the hymns that will be included in our Pentecost Sunday Worship Service that will celebrate the
Music of our Ages:
HOW IT WORKS:
Make sure you’re here every Sunday in April! Each Sunday you will get a “ballot” in your bulletin (see
below) that includes 5 chances to vote. Perfect attendance on all four Sunday mornings in April will give you twenty
(20) votes!
Vote for your favorite hymns! This can be ANY hymn that you desire. It doesn’t have to be in our cur-
rent hymnal, it can be from a hymnal in the past. And it doesn’t have to be from a Presbyterian Hymnal – this is an
Interdenominational event. You can vote for five different hymns each Sunday, or you can boost your favorites by vot-
ing multiple times for the same hymn.
Be here on Pentecost Sunday, May 15th! All the ballots submitted during the worship services in April
will be tallied and the hymns receiving the most amount of votes will be sung during worship!
REEMBER: YOU HAVE TO COME TO WORSHIP TO GET A BALLOT AND VOTE!
See you in church…

LIVESTRONG—OLDHAM COUNTY YMCA
Nearly every person in our community knows someone who is battling or has battled cancer. The Oldham County
YMCA would like to come along side them on their cancer journey and walk with them with support to help them
take the next step, whatever that may be.
The YMCA of Greater Louisville has partnered with LIVESTRONG to create a health and wellness program for can-
cer patients and survivors. The participant and one care giver will be given a 12 week FREE association wide mem-
bership to the YMCA. The group will meet twice a week for 12 weeks with a LIVESTRONG trained staff member.
The importance for those who battle cancer to work out and support one another is great. They have seen their
fighters maintain higher energy levels, greater strength and mobility simply by coming to our program and doing the
best that they can.
Not every branch has an active LIVESTRONG group, but Oldham County YMCA does. In May 2015 they officially
launched their program and last year they serviced 10 members of the Oldham County community. This year they
are striving to double that number. To register, participants simply need to stop by the Oldham County YMCA
branch to fill out medical history paperwork and have their doctor sign off (page #2) indicating if there are re-
strictions or not in terms of workouts.
If you have questions you may contact the Oldham County YMCA at (502) 222-9358.
Calling all keepers of trivial facts and tidbits!...
It’s PVPC's 3rd Annual TRIVIA EVENT!
Sunday, April 24th, 2016 from 5-7:30pm
The Member Development Team is planning another Fun Trivia Evening for all!
Our Trivia questions will challenge the skills of all different ages and will cover many different topics:
history, sports, entertainment, etc.
> A light dinner will be provided: sandwich fixings, sides, drinks, etc.
> Child Care for small folk (Preschool and Elementary age) will be provided.
*Please R.S.V.P. to Kathi in the church office (tel. 241-4326; email: [email protected]) so that we may have a
head count for dinner planning and preparations.
(Walk-ins welcome too!)
MISSION COLLECTION AT PVPC Presbyterian Disaster Relief Project : Mid-Kentucky Presbytery
PCUSA churches in Mid Kentucky Presbytery have committed to packing 500 “Disaster Relief Hygiene Kits” for the
Mayor of Louisville’s “Week of Service,” and PVPC wants to help! We want to put together 25 kits and send them in by
April 18th.
Each PDA Hygiene Kit will fit into a one gallon zip lock bag and your Mission Team is asking that you bring in the fol-
lowing items in the month of March and put them in the Gathering Room donation bin:
1 Hand towel (16”x28” – no bath towels!)
1 wash cloth
1 wide tooth comb
1nail clipper
1 bar of soap (bath size in wrapper)
1 toothbrush in original wrapping
6 Band-aids or other adhesive bandage strips
The PCUSA Disaster Assistance office will cover the cost of shipping the hygiene kits to the distribution warehouse in
Arkansas.
Other ways that Churches are participating is by …
1. Praying for the people struggling to survive a disaster.
2. Volunteering to assemble more kits on April 23 at Strathmoor PC. Children welcome!
3. Donate and drop off supplies on April 18.
4. Contribute money to buy needed items.
Thank you for your commitment and love. Call the church office for more information!

CHAPEL SERVICE WITH
THE CHILD DEVELOP-
MENT CENTER
10:00 a. m. Wednesday, April 13 and
Tuesday, April 26
We have two chapel services a month,
every month, for the children in our
care five days week! Any and all who
are able are welcome and encouraged
to come! Our time together usually
lasts about twenty minutes and in-
cludes songs, prayers, a sharing from
scripture by Pastor Joel and a celebra-
tion of the month’s birthdays. Love to
see you in our sanctuary with the chil-
dren!
CDC NEWS Happy April Everyone! Have you stopped for a moment to take in all
of God’s beauty that’s taking place this Spring? I was driving some-
where the other day and there was a solid line of pear trees all spar-
kling and white mixed in with the fresh green of budding plants and it
was simply breathtaking. My daughter asked me what my favorite sea-
son is and for that I simply don’t have an answer (not winter – defi-
nitely not winter!). There is beauty in all of the seasons.
The weather we’ve been having has me already excited about getting
outside and planting things. But I know the rule well around these
parts – no planting until after Derby. Coincidentally, our theme this
week happens to be seeds and planting and all of the classes are work-
ing on growing things inside for the raised garden that the CDC is go-
ing to have here this summer. We would love to grow a variety of
things and would love some advice on tried and true gardening tips. If
you have any suggestions about neat things to grow or the best way to
grow something, please share it with us in the CDC office. We also
hope you’ll check out our garden once we get it up and growing.
April seems to be a rather quiet month as activities go. We’ll have
Chapel on the 13th and the 26th, Spring pictures on the 19, 20 & 21 of
the month (see inside the newsletter for more details) and we’ll have
lots of recycling activities the week of April 18. This all leads us up to
the month of May which is almost as busy as Christmas time!
This is your monthly reminder – please designate us (the Pewee Valley
Presbyterian Church) as your Kroger Community Rewards recipient.
This past quarter we grew from 18 participating families to 21 and
we’d love to have even more. The extra money we earn from partici-
pating goes a long way to help with different themes and events at the
CDC. If you have any questions about this program please call the
CDC office at 241-0177 and we’ll be glad to help you!
God Bless,
Sharon Davis
