    What my documentary is setting

out to achieve? I am challenging the fact that gospel is music is not as popular as other music genres,

so showing a documentary on it would be challenging as its appeal to only an certainamount of people. So it challenges the preconceptions of what people think or knowof gospel music. I will be doing these by making the documentary to be live and veryupbeat and youthful, meaning not showing any other forms of gospel or people withinmy documentary.

I am exploring the view that gospel music is not popular and not well known by many.Having sources that are gospel artists which have recent won music awards such asthe Mobos would be able to help me to explore it more.

I an investigating the contributions that gospel music has within the music/ mediaindustry. Having sources such as gospel clothing designer shows how fashion is nowcontributing to the gospel industry.

I am proving that gospel music within the UK is growing and is not stagnant. I will beshowing this by going to gospel events with the documentary and showing choirs andartist performing as well as catwalks.

Profile of Target Audience andAppeal of Your Idea

Age - 16-24 I would have young presenters and all my sources would range from the ages of 16-24 this would appeal to the audience as they portray an young image in whatthey do.

Gender 50 males 50 females- My sources would be evenly spread out so that both male and female can be able to relate to someone with thesame gender as them.

Location - People who live in the UK can watch it within the UK people who live in London will watch it as they would find it local which will appeal to people in the area asthey are able to find it local and even recognize the location.

Ambitions people who have goals to be an musician, music artist, songwriter etc anything that is creative such as designing clothes , furniture, buildings etc would beinspired to fulfil their goals, as sources in my documentary would be people who are young which fulfilled they own goals.

Employment status/ Education -A-level, Degree level or even no education- within my documentary such as young gospel artists or young entrepreneur designers canencourage people in education or not even in education to keep doing what they are doing despite all the barriers coming towards them eg. No money. This can give an driveand motivation for people to stay in study or get an job or even start their own business.

Disposable Income - 50-400 depending on the level of education and occupation The documentary would inform the audience of where to go to do to buy gospel clothingline products or to go to free music events.

Ethnicity all ethics but mostly white and black- within the documentary my vox pops

mainly would be a mixture of all ethics as possible to appeal to everyone. Opinions - for people of all beliefs- gospel music is from an Christian belief soChristianity would be targeted but having people in my vox pops which our clearly fromother religions than Christianity or people with no religion at all would also be featuredto appeal to everyone. I do not want the documentary to offend different groups ofpeople including Christians so the focus is just on gospel music.

Existing Media Consumption/ favourite media text -TV ,radio , magazines, MVT ,musicvideos, talk shows People who do watch a lot of music videos and a range of differentgenres in music channels and fashion programmes would be appealed to watching mydocumentary as elements of this programmes would feature in my documentary.

Social Economic -E mainly and from C1-D- Most of my target audience would bestudent studying and may be looking for an new interest, change in lifestyle etc. to getaway from all the work load and stress from exams . Gospel music could be a new wayfor them to help them to relax and to up lift them from the stress.

Niche - people tend to prefer unique documentaries rather than obvious mainstreamtopics according from my research, gospel music would be seen niche as a lot of peopledo not really know of it.

    Explanation of Research & KeyFindings

Textual Analysis - From my textual analysis research I wanted findsimilar texts to what I would do or similar topics if not exact. I had tofind out the audience and look deep into the contexts of the film, Iwas looking for style, content, use of music, camera, editing andconvections, so that I see the ones which I would want to have indocumentary. Watching these videos helped me to see how I wouldwant to set out my documentary. Everything that I gathered from thisresearch was qualitative research from secondary sources which Ianalysed.

Focus Groups - From my focus group I set out to find out my audienceopinions on my documentary and also to see if they views would affectmy audience viability for my idea. The focus group helped me toexamine my audience to help me with defining my audience. my

response was more qualitative than qualitative as I was askingquestions to get full response rather than short responses and primaryas it was an focus group for my target audience.

Primary Research -my primary research was when I had to produce questionnaires and giveit out to my target audience. I set to find out information about my audience what they liketo in they spare time, how much they income disposal they have, religion etc. I also wantedto find out how my audience would want my documentary to be styled seeing their taste onother TV consumptions which can help influence my documentary positively. I also examinedthe content of what will actually do into my documentary be asking questions based on theappeal of my topic and the angle that I am taking. I received both qualitative andquantitative results as I asked both closed and open questions.

Secondary Research my secondary research was me collecting facts and figures for myideas using the internet. I devised 5 key questions which I answered in depth using theinternet, the questions was like an set out of what content was going to be in maydocumentary. I found statistics (quantitative) which I could use for my documentary whenintroducing what gospel music is and the history of it.

Key findings I found out that in order for my to do an documentary about gospel music Iwould have to do an introduction of it in the beginning as many people did not know aboutfrom research.

-I found out that my sources need to diverse to show more truth and reliabilityto my audience watching.

-from my focus group people of different ethics than black who did not knownothing about gospel music was still interested in watching an documentary on gospel musicwithin the UK for more knowledge.

The research has advanced the development of my research by me knowing what I wouldhave in my documentary, I was able to choose the idea which I felt would have to mostpotential to be film with ease, which have the most interesting range of contacts. Myresearch has helped me to have my content in an structured order, it has given me a clearidea what is going in it and how it would be styled, with the help from my focus group.

TechnicalViability The equipment that I will need during my production is an camera,

tripod, tape, dolly and a rod microphone. I will need time on a Mac using Imovie software for editing during

my post production. Crew members would be me and one of my classmates to help me

with filming. The cast would be the presenter (my sister), theinterviewees (Victizzle, TP and Deborah) also including vox pops(people from the general public.

Some audio which I may intend on having on the film may needpermission from artists, but this can done by writing a shortletter to inform them.

I think it would be easy and accessible to execute in terms ofusing the schools equipment and a time management and scheduleplan sorted to for this production.

Practical Viability In my feature I will have special guests such as an gospel clothing designer

Deborah. This contacts are already found from my contacts list I made already during

my research period. This will be filmed at the Makeup artist backstage when interview with

Deborah, in the recording studio when having an interview with TP and filmedbackstage after Victizzle performance.

I have access to these locations I can easily get there by bus or train as it isall London based my sources will also be able to get there.

The props and costumes that I will be needing is outfits for the presenter. I may use archive footage for when introducing what gospel music is, will need

to ask permission to use the archive footage and images from the owner.

    Legal& RegulatoryConsiderations

BBC editorial guidelines- I will made sure that my facts and anyinformation is check to be accurate and truthful. My sourcesalso range from an gospel artist, to an music producer to andgospel artist, which shows how diverse and fair it is for mytopic.

Media Law-my source are able to but in my documentary as I willbe respecting their privacy. People will see a positive in thegospel industry and may want to explore in their own interest.Getting permission from sources to use their gospel music orproducts within the production can allow the production to bemore communicative and entertaining.

OFCOMS Regulations- in my documentary will not show any

potential offensive material that can upset and harm otherpeople, children will also be able to watch my documentary. Mycontributors will also be dealt with in an fair manner andportrayed the way their would be expected to seem as.

    12/14

Commercial Viability The market- there are no similar texts on the market that are similar to mine or compete with

mine, this is one of reasons why documentary is already unique. However my documentary canshare similar audience with channel 4 documentary viewers as the audience is would notnormally watch it topics would find it interesting to watch as its something that do not know.

My budget- my feature will not cost much to produce as most equipment and things neededwould be already provided for me for free by the school. Only costs I see being made isrefreshment for cast and crew and maybe travel which should be free. I would need phonecredit to call my contacts to locate them or make arrangements when meeting up with them.

Distribution and Exhibition-my documentary would be entertaining (with the music and clips ofperformances), informing (tell them where there can go to buy products and listen to music)and educating (give statistics and facts of gospel), so it can meet the publics interest in thisthree aspect and the BBC ethos. It will be shown on a weekday at 9pm, as that the times mytarget audience would be at home watching TV. Not on a weekend as they are likely to be outhaving fun. On channel 4 on Wednesdays at 9pm the documentary The Family is shown at thetime, where the majority of my audience would watch this documentary as it appeals to themas it has humour. So my documentary would be shown at 9pm but not on Wednesday probablyTuesday or Thursday so it does not loose most of its viewers.
