If a customer has their own models, such as in SSA Baan ERP 5.2a, and the customer migrates to a later release, such as SSA® ERP LN 6.1, the customer also wants to migrate their models to this later release.

A session, the Convert Used Applications (tgbrg5251m000) session, is available to convert the models.

The following situations are possible:

Session code Baan ERP 5.2a is the same as session code SSA ERP LN 6.1

Session code Baan ERP 5.2a is not the same as session code SSA ERP LN 6.1

Session code Baan ERP 5.2a does not exist in SSA ERP LN 6.1. SSA ERP no longer includes the functionality, and the code is not replaced with another session code.

Customization session code Baan ERP 5.2a.

Localization session code Baan ERP 5.2a.

New session code SSA ERP LN 6.1 (new functionality).

To handle these situations, the following options are available:

Conversion is performed with the Convert Used Applications (tgbrg5251m000) session, as long as SSA Development correctly fills the DEM Conversion (tgbrg550) table.

1Chapter 1 DEM conversion possibilities

Page 8: Conversion Guide DEM Models from SSA® Baan … ln 61 DEM.pdfAbout this Guide This document is a Conversion Guide that provides the user with some information in regard to the conversion

1-2 | DEM conversion possibilities

Conversion is performed with the Convert Used Applications (tgbrg5251m000) session, as long as SSA Development correctly fills the DEM Conversion (tgbrg550) table.

Conversion is not carried out, if the DEM Conversion (tgbrg550) table is filled correctly, the Source is filled, and the Destination is empty. The customer must change this model.

No conversion is possible, because a customization is customer-specific, unless the customer manually changes the conversion table.

No conversion is possible, because the localization is country-specific, unless the customer manually changes the conversion table. Exceptions are made for the Belgian localizations.

No conversion is possible, because functionality does not exist in previous SSA releases. In most cases, nothing is available from which to convert.

Conversions from earlier releases, such as SSA Baan ERP 5.0b/c, must run by means of the same process, however:

Baan IVc5 SSA ERP LN 6.1 (*) Baan ERP 5.0b Baan ERP 5.2a SSA ERP LN 6.1.

Baan ERP 5.0c Baan ERP 5.2a SSA ERP LN 6.1.

(*) Performing the conversion from SSA Baan IVc5 to SSA ERP LN 6.1 automatically by means of a conversion table has some limitations for the following reasons:

Many business processes in SSA ERP LN 6.1 are set up and covered by the software in an entirely different way, and therefore are not compatible with Baan IV.

Many Baan IV sessions are clustered in SSA ERP LN 6.1.

Many Baan IV sessions are split up in SSA ERP LN 6.1.

For these reasons, a list of available business processes is set up in such a way that makes searching for the right business process in SSA ERP LN 6.1 much easier. As a result, manual conversion, or using the right template for your own business processes, is greatly simplified. A DEM Conversion table for the conversion of DEM Models from Baan IVc5 to SSA ERP LN 6.1 is available.

Page 9: Conversion Guide DEM Models from SSA® Baan … ln 61 DEM.pdfAbout this Guide This document is a Conversion Guide that provides the user with some information in regard to the conversion

SSA Development is responsible for creating and delivering a Conversion (tgbrg550) table for a new release. Therefore, SSA Development has delivered the DEM Conversion table for Baan ERP 5.2a to SSA ERP LN 6.1. In fact the migration consists of the components used in 5.2 and 6.1 (table tgbrg555 Applications by component) and the mapping itself (table tgbrg550 Conversion of Applications).

After the DEM Conversion table is installed, the customer can add or change records in this table. This enables the customer to do the following:

Convert own customizations.

Convert localizations.

Add or change tables when another session code is chosen as destination session code.

Delete unused records.

The customer is responsible for converting the models in the Convert Used Applications (tgbrg5251m000) session.

Page 11: Conversion Guide DEM Models from SSA® Baan … ln 61 DEM.pdfAbout this Guide This document is a Conversion Guide that provides the user with some information in regard to the conversion

The DEM Conversion (tgbrg550) table is delivered separate as a dump file.

The following section describe the situation in more detail:

DEM Conversion table is delivered separately as a dump file

After the DEM Conversion table is received at a customer’s site as an ASCII-dump, the customer must install the table before conversion of the DEM models can take place.

For example, the ASCII dump of the DEM Conversion table for Baan ERP 5.0b –Baan ERP 5.2a contains 8,101 records and is 861 KB in size.

Precondition

The new component and component release--in this case, SSA ERP LN 6.1--must be available in the system.

3Chapter 3 How to install the DEM Conversion (tgbrg550) table

Page 12: Conversion Guide DEM Models from SSA® Baan … ln 61 DEM.pdfAbout this Guide This document is a Conversion Guide that provides the user with some information in regard to the conversion

3-2 | How to install the DEM Conversion (tgbrg550) table

Installation

You can perform the installation in the following ways:

1 Insert the dump with the command: bdbpost.

2 Use the following options: -A –R –t “|” –D:

-A is the option for appending that enables you to append new records to the table.

-R is the option for appending that appends new records to the table, and overwrites existing records.

-t is the option for assigning the field separator.

“|” is the used field separator.

-D refers to the directory where the ASCII dump is stored.

3 You can also use options such as -C for company and -P for package combination.

Conditions

You can only perform this procedure if this ASCII dump is the only available dump with extension .S.

You must set BSE, BSE_TMP, and BSE/bin.

Easier method

A much simpler method is to use the Create Table from Sequential Dump (ttadv4227m000) session. However, in many cases, only system management has authorization for these types of sessions.

Note

In the Create Table from Sequential Dump session, select both the Append if Table Exists check box (-A) and the Overwrite Duplicate Records from Dump check box (-R):

Page 13: Conversion Guide DEM Models from SSA® Baan … ln 61 DEM.pdfAbout this Guide This document is a Conversion Guide that provides the user with some information in regard to the conversion

How to install the DEM Conversion (tgbrg550) table | 3-3

After you select the Create Tables for Different Company check box on the Details tab, you must fill in the corresponding Company field because the DEM Conversion table is created from a SSA Development company, most likely with another company number.

On the Files tab in the Create Table from Sequential Dump session, you can find information about the field separator (-t and “|”).

In addition, on this tab, in the Name of Dump File field, you must specify the directory where the ASCII dump is stored (-D).

In this case, the Company (-C) and Package Combination (-P) settings are not required, because the Create Table from Sequential Dump (tdadv4227000) session is started in a company and package combination.

You can perform the DEM conversion of the models in the Convert Applications (tgbrg5251m000) session.

You must make sure to fill in the fields properly, as shown in the following figures.

SSA Global recommends that you start with a practice version: on the Conversion Data tab, in the Options area, select the Execute Test Run check box. In the second stage you can clear this check box to start the actual conversion:

4-2 | DEM conversion process

The parameters on both tabs of this session are important.

Page 17: Conversion Guide DEM Models from SSA® Baan … ln 61 DEM.pdfAbout this Guide This document is a Conversion Guide that provides the user with some information in regard to the conversion

DEM conversion process | 4-3

The Conversion Data tab in the Convert Used Application sessions includes the following check boxes, both of which are described in the subsequent sections:

Convert Complete Replacement Only

Convert only Approved Application Conversions

Convert Complete Replacement Only

This check box corresponds with the Complete Replacement check box in the DEM Conversion (tgbrg550) table. If you select this check box, the functionality of the destination application includes the functionality of the source application. You can only apply complete replacement in case of multiple replacement or single replacement.

Convert only Approved Application Conversions

This check box corresponds with the Approve Conversion check box in the DEM Conversion (tgbrg550) table. If you select this check box, the conversion is approved and can take place.

If, during conversion, both check boxes are cleared, all conversion table records are taken into account. Alternatively you can first check the mapping and mark the records that you feel are a complete replacement, are approved or both.

If one of the check boxes is selected, the user can make exceptions, such as to convert only sessions codes if the Convert only Approved Application Conversion check box is selected in the conversion table.

The Selection Range tab in the Convert Used Applications session contains the Keep Original BP Activity Description check box, as described in the following section.

Page 18: Conversion Guide DEM Models from SSA® Baan … ln 61 DEM.pdfAbout this Guide This document is a Conversion Guide that provides the user with some information in regard to the conversion

4-4 | DEM conversion process

Keep Original BP Activity Description

If you select this check box, the original business process descriptions, which in many cases the customer gave by themselves, are maintained and are not overwritten by the session code description of the SSA release. As a result, the customer-specific description remains.

Page 19: Conversion Guide DEM Models from SSA® Baan … ln 61 DEM.pdfAbout this Guide This document is a Conversion Guide that provides the user with some information in regard to the conversion

When you convert the models from one release to another, best practice is to check which activities (session codes) are not converted and why. For this purpose, you can use the Print Where-Used Applications (in Enterprise Models) (tgbrg5461m000) session as follows:

Suppose you have converted from the component Baan ERP 5.0b in component Baan ERP 5.2a:

The following two reports provide the user with information about the conversion:

5Chapter 5 How to check the DEM conversion

Page 20: Conversion Guide DEM Models from SSA® Baan … ln 61 DEM.pdfAbout this Guide This document is a Conversion Guide that provides the user with some information in regard to the conversion

5-2 | How to check the DEM conversion

Note

Make sure that the version, in this case a display field, is set correctly.

In this example, you only convert business process DEN002, but usually you convert all business processes and all support applications in one run.

When you place the new component, in this case Baan ERP 5.2a, in the selection, the system shows the used applications, for example:

Baan ERP 5.2a: tibom0130m000 – Description

Baan ERP 5.2a: tibom1110m000 – Description

Baan ERP 5.2a: tibom1212m000 – Description

In this way, you can check what is correctly converted, and how the conversion looks.

In addition, you can also place the old component in the selection, such as, in this case, Baan ERP 5.0b. The outcome is as follows:

Baan ERP 5.0b: tibom0120m000 – Description

Baan ERP 5.0b: tisfc3101m000 – Description

In this way, the user can easily see which activities are not converted. The reason for this is because:

Page 21: Conversion Guide DEM Models from SSA® Baan … ln 61 DEM.pdfAbout this Guide This document is a Conversion Guide that provides the user with some information in regard to the conversion

How to check the DEM conversion | 5-3

No substitute (destination session code) is available in the DEM Conversion (tgbrg550) table:

The reason for this can be:

Omission of the DEM Conversion (tgbrg550) table, not filled by SSA Development.

Functionality is taken over by a third-party product

Functionality no longer exists in SSA ERP

Because of other reason

The second report looks like the following:

Make sure that the version, in this case a display field, is set correctly.

When we place the new component, in this case Baan ERP 5.2a, in the selection, the system shows an easy-to-read list with the non-converted applications:

Baan ERP 5.2a: cprpd0110m000 – DGE033 – Descriptions

Baan ERP 5.2a: cprpd0120m000 – DGE033 – Descriptions

Page 22: Conversion Guide DEM Models from SSA® Baan … ln 61 DEM.pdfAbout this Guide This document is a Conversion Guide that provides the user with some information in regard to the conversion

5-4 | How to check the DEM conversion

In addition, when you place the old component in the selection, in this case Baan ERP 5.0b:

Baan ERP 5.0b: cprpd0110m000 – DGE033 – Descriptions

Baan ERP 5.0b: cprpd0120m000 – DGE033 – Descriptions

As you can see, this is, in fact, the same information.

In this way, you can easily see which activities are not converted. The reason for this is because:

No record is in the DEM Conversion (tgbrg550) table with this session code as source application at all.

The reason for that can be:

Omission of the DEM Conversion (tgbrg550) table, not filled by SSA Development.

The session code is a customization.

The session code is a localization.
