Conventions and Analysing:Front covers, Contents pages and
Double page spreads
I will be looking at more front pages, contents pages, and double page spreads.
By doing this it will help me when making my magazine.
When looking at other front covers, content pages and double spread pages I will be looking at the conventions
of each and analysing them so I get more insight into how to make them and when it comes to it make my
magazine look professional.
Also by doing this I will also be looking at the market place and looking at other music magazines.
Vibe Front CoversI really like Vibe magazine. I love the simplicity of the front covers. The colour choices are good and the everything important stands out. Most of them only
use two colours which makes it even more elegant and simple. It looks very professional. Vibe also appeals to me because of the genre of music they
present – This is the genre that I will making my magazine like. When making my magazine I will also look at simplicity to make it look elegant and
professional. I also like the black and white images it defiantly stands out. They have followed the conventions by colour of three and the same style with the
masterhead in every issue. They have also used buzz words.
Blender Front CoversOnce again I like the simplicity of this magazine I especially like the Katy
Perry issue as I think it just stands out more. Once again I like the choice of colours and the pictures are very simple. They all look professional
especially behind a white canvas – I might do this when it comes to my magazine to make it look professional and elegant.
They have followed the conventions by using the same masterhead (part of the house style) in every issue. They have also used the colour of three and
buzz words.
Q’s Contents Page
Looking at Q’s contents page I really like the use of only a few pictures.
Once again it looks elegant and professional with the simplicity.
The conventions I can see from looking is issue dates and the name
of the master head, which Q is following. They are also following
the convention by keeping the colours scheme from the front page
in the contents page. This is red black and white for Q’s magazine.
Vibe’s Contents PageVibes content page is very simple. This is something that I will try and achieve when making my contents
page. I like the use of only one picture – I don't like contents with
a lot of pictures as it can sometimes look unprofessional.
Vibe has followed some conventions by showing issue
dates and part of the masterhead in the contents page. I also like the
way they jumbled up the word ‘contents’ but you can still see
what it is meant to be.
This is an interview on a double page spread. This is what I will be doing when
it comes to making my double page spread. I like the play on words with the
image. I also like how they have used boxes to write on so that the text will
stand out.
They have followed the conventions and codes by using columns and quotes from the text. They have also used a
simple colour scheme.
Top Of The Pops Double Page Spread
Top Of The Pops Double Page Spread
I really like this double page spread. This is because I like the pose of the artist and how she takes up most of
that page. I like the layout of this double page spread and will try and achieve something similar because it
looks professional.
This double page spread has followed the conventions by using the colour of
three and the quotes in the boxes. They have also gave the model credit
and I like the title in the box.
Q’s Double Page Spread
This double page spread has followed the conventions by firstly giving the model the credit. It has also been
done by using drop capitals. They have also used columns and a simple colour scheme. Another thing they have done is used quotes so we see parts of the
text.
I really like the choice of colours especially as it is apart of the house
colour style for the whole magazine. I also like the ‘J’ on the whole page and
the red light on the artists face.
Q’s Double Page Spread
This is another Q double page spread. I like the simplicity of this. The image takes up most of the page and I like the style of
the shot. They have also used columns this is something I will do when making
my double page spread.
I also like how the colours match what the artists are wearing bring both thing
together. I will try and achieve this when coming to my magazine.
